Amazing authentic african ‘hotel’ with super atmosphere! The owner says himself it’s not a hotel, but a home. And it’s easy to see why. This place is a warm community with great facilities and nature hand in hand. The atmosphere and the staff make sure you feel at home and they’ll help you with whatever you would need. Me and my friends had a wonderful time in this beatiful home and we hope to return sometime soon! Recommend

Mustapha's place is a very cozy and friendly one to stay and enjoy Zanzibar. It is located near the ocean (a nice beach is just 50 meters away), in the quiet part of the island, in the village of Bwejuu. The breakfast was very good, rich in fruit and very tasty. You can also order lunch or dinner there. The bar is also well supplied, good drinks on the menu :-) The whole area is well equipped with swings and hammocks. Very easy to chill there. Rooms are simple, but nice. We really appreciated mosquito nets over the bed.

Hot water in the shower was available only three days out of the week we spent there.

What a lovely place - we were especially impressed by the warm welcome we received! The entire place is on white sand and I did not wear any shoes for the length of our stay. The pool is amazing, the rooms are quirky and staff is very nice. We loved the playground, aquarium, fire place, music, hammocks, and the resident bush baby was a huge bonus :-)!

For some reason I thought the hotel is directly at the beach. It is not, but it is very close, down an alley way (2min) and it was no problem at all / especially as the beach itself is not ideal for swimming (too shallow). The restaurant is very good, but it can take an hour for food to arrive. Pole pole.

The location and the grounds were amazing... the beds were comfortable, and the pool was spectacular and great for a family. The food was pretty good and very reasonably priced. Locally owned property and didn't have too many power outages compared to other hotels in the area.

No AC in the rooms and the fans are not powerful enough when the weather is hot and the bathrooms require a bit of an upgrade.

The staff and ambience of Mustaphas are incredible.it has a Rasta/hippy vibe to it which made it so relaxing. The whole site is abundant with full grown trees. These were all planted by Mustapha back in 1991 and are now producing Coconut, Mango, Bananas and Papaya is abundance, much to the delight of the monkeys and of the Bush Babies which visit the bar area each evening. The trees cover the whole site and surround the pool so there is shade during the day. They put a lot of effort into keeping the whole site groomed and the pool clean. There is a short (less than 100mtrs) walk to the beach. Then a beach walk to Paje where there are ATMs, coffee shops etc. Breakfast is very good with fresh fruit then a choice of eggs/omelette etc.

Although I became acclimatised I found the room very hot at night with no air con. The room was spacious but it was inconvenient to live out of a suitcase the whole time. A wardrobe or chest of drawers would have been a boon. The Internet was sporadic as a result of power cuts in the area, but when it worked it was fine

It felt like an oasis of beautiful trees, animals and water. There was beautiful seating everywhere and you could always find a little nook or cranny to hide away in and read or just sit and listen to the birds. The beach was a 2 minute walk away. They offer yummy food and there are plenty of restaurants around. There is live music close by. And here they feed the bush baby’s every now get and have an inviting camp fire for the guests every night! The staff was incredibly nice and made the stay what it was! I highly recommend Mustapha’s Place!

Mustaphas is unique, you live in the middle of towering trees and bushes in rooms/apartments which are fairly basic with no air con and roofs constructed from local rushes. It is like a nature reserve. However the main strength of this place is the incredible staff who work tirelessly to give every guest a great time. I found Robbie, Sweety and Lister to be so likeable.i now think of them as friends. This isn't a modern luxury hotel in many aspects it is basic. But I will definitely return.

The whole place feels like a remote jungle paradise. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the pool is really stunning. The food was delicious and fresh, and there were plenty of interesting and local activities to engage in. I'd recommend the swahili cooking class!

The property isn't right on the beach (not an issue, just for other travellers to know) and I found the food to be quite pricey (though this also depends on how long you stay).

It was an awesome place. The staff there made you feel like you were part of a big, happy family. Every night, we'd all gather around a bonfire and chat. They were always happy to share their knowledge about the local life and the island. Each room was one-of-a-kind and special. The food is yummy and made with love. The pool is nice. The crew helps you with taxis, renting a car, and booking excursions. They support locals with fair prices. We had a great time and will come back.

Every meal we had was superb, the staff was so friendly and helpful, the place was perfect for our toddler too

We had to cross the road to get to the beach, which I wasn't expecting, but it's in a very quiet area and so it wasn't a problem
