Was a large room and double bed with full en-suite bathroom in a 400 year building. Lovely room and very clean with lots of old world charm. Very quiet in view of central location. Nice crisp bedding with fluffy towels and coffee machine with all the bits. My Wife and I were extremely pleased with accommodation

Nothing at all, all top notch. Would have been nice to have had breakfast in the attractive pub/restaurant below, but we fully understand as only a small number of rooms, this is not viable. We knew this at outset. Coffee/tea and biscuits in room kept us going. Plenty of choices to get breakfast a few minutes walk away

The only one issue that let this fantastic venue down was the bed. A lumpy mattress that on second night we flipped over which was a little better but not good. Also the pillows were not a good quality. If the Riverside managment changed to better beds with a good hotel quality mattress and pillows we would have given 100% in all sections as it really was a wonderful place , staff really nice and the room was spotlessly clean. We will be returning to the hotel again but will ask for a different room next time due to the bed only. We didnt eat there but will next time as the food smelt very nice but we had already booked elsewhere with friends prior to our visit. Lovely place to stay.

Only the bed and pillows let the place down but if addressed absolutely nothing would be negative.

Not only do you get to enjoy the aesthetics of staying in an old inn but it's also been renovated really well to make sure your stay is comfortable. The staff are lovely, the food is fantastic and the view is impeccable. Really short riverside walk into the centre as well, and great value for money – couldn't recommend highly enough!

There's nothing bad to say, however, I would warn to anyone who would be looking for an early night, the sound of the pub does travel up to the rooms. This wasn't an issue for us as we were in the pub until close, but if you want a quiet early night, this probably isn't the best place for you.

Great location only 10 mins from the station. Easy to check in and shown room. Amazing room with oak beams but with all the amenities such as a coffee machine, kettle and tea coffee etc including oat milk which was a nice surprise. Bed was very comfortable and nice shower with free toiletries. Lovely staff and the food was amazing, good choice of beers. All in all excellent value for money.

There was space so it would have been nice if there was a fridge in the room and the air con wasn't great. As room overlooked beer garden couldn't have the window open due to the noise so room was a little hot. But could open window before pub opened and late at night so not all bad.

As a former cabin crew member, I’ve seen my fair share of “overnight stays,” but The Riverside Inn in Chelmsford gave me the sort of check-in I wish we could have offered in First Class. My room was impressively spacious enough to swing a Samsonite, with a huge TV, blissful air-con, and a bathroom that could have doubled as a small room. The coffee machine and complimentary biscuits were a lovely touch, as were the bottled waters, hydration is key, whether at 35,000 feet or just down the road from home. I live in Essex, but I chose to stay here as it’s close to work and meant I could enjoy a few drinks without the faff of taxis or the guilt of driving. Comfort-wise, it ticked all the boxes, and then some.

The only turbulence in my stay came before I’d even boarded my room key. They rang to say I was an hour late for check-in news to me that the latest arrival time was 20:00. Sadly, that meant leaving my friends mid-evening to check in and then rejoining them later. A small point, but worth knowing for future flyers… I mean, guests. Once settled in, though, it was smooth cruising all the way. Great comfort, a peaceful night, and plenty of little extras that make you feel valued. I’ll definitely be staying there again, though next time, I’ll be sure to “pre-clear customs” by 8 pm.

Interesting building. 18th Century former water mill with some even older bits, a listed building. At a great location with riverside walks &, just across the river, modern swimming baths, ice rink & Gym, loads of new restaurants, posh cinema & a John Lewis with cafes. Pedestrianised town centre just a short walk. No extra charge for wifi. Big, warm room showing the ancient roof timbers. Although there was no twin bed option, the double bed in our room was a very large one so that was fine. Smart en-suite, room cleaned & made up every day with new towels. No breakfast option, but can use room facilities + plenty of places nearby. Ate at their pub restaurant 2 nights - good.

The en-suite is relatively large & very pleasant, but the bath + tap-shower in our room was located where the roof slopes down & may not suit someone becoming a bit less mobile getting in and out of baths. It was not possible to stand up for a shower.

On arrival we were met by Ruby who showed us to our room. She was very friendly, professional and very informative. She explained how the key system worked and gave us details on how to operate the coffee machine. The room was a really good size, bed was very comfortable. Really quirky due to the age of the building which we really liked. Good shower which is always a bonus particularly as it was above a bath. We had Sunday lunch which was absolutely fantastic. Really generous portions and cooked to perfection. We thought the prices were good too. Service throughout our stay was really good. Cannot say anything negative at all. We would recommend it to anyone needing a stay in Chelmsford and will definitely be using the Riverside Inn again. Perfect location, lovely garden and interior decor.

Room 2 was a large spacious airy room that overlooked the river very cosy with wood beams crisp cotton bedding and a huge TV , the bath was relaxing enough hot water and toiletries at hand , delicious cookies with tea, coffee and sugar and milk , after having a Sunday roast dinner and tiramisu for dessert which was all visually beautiful and delicious in a friendly atmosphere with exceptional staff.

Plastic kettle personal preference , door lock was tricky to lock , very creaky upstairs floorboards.

Staff were helpful and friendly had an issue where didn't know where we could put bikes as came on a cycling trip others from the same trip were also staying but in the end were allowed bikes in rooms and staff member even helped carry my bike to my room

Just no knowing beforehand about the bike storage, it also wasn't that close to the city centre but then I'm not sure I walked the right way it might have been closer the pub was busy till late night but I'm not a light sleeper so that's fine I suppose.

Lovely, comfortable, spotless room packed with thoughtful touches - big, fluffy towels, toiletries, tea and coffee making facilities, biscuits, two bottles of water, free Wi-Fi, satellite TV - even an ironing board. There's a bar and restaurant attached to the hotel and all the staff were very friendly and welcoming.
