Great location in the centre of town, and in the most beautiful Cumbrian countryside. Fabulous breakfast, and the evening meal menu was great as well with good variety. Service of food was excellent, especially considering how busy they were in the evenings (I'd recommend booking a table for evening meals). Recently refurbished and re-opened (March 2024) with clean bedroom, and separate shower room/toilet which was quite spacious. Bar prices were great too. It was very lively in the evenings, as well as during the daytime, and had a great atmosphere. Seems to be extremely popular with locals and visitors alike. Would be very happy to visit again, but the description and price for the room we were given needs to be revised (see my comments in 'what didn't you like').

Description and picture on Booking.com gave the impression the room we booked would be ensuite, but it wasn't (only informed of this at check-in), despite paying the same price as for an ensuite room. Also there were no bathrobes for us to use to go to the separate shower room/toilet. We were told that a delay with suppliers meant no bathrobes, as they'd only recently re-opened following refurbishment. Room was small but clean and comfortable, but not enough space for a wardrobe (it had a small open clothes hanger). We've been informed that the description for this room, and the price, will be changed. Happy that Booking.com arranged a small compensation for us.

Excellent breakfast, oddly, tea and coffee free during the week, but had to pay extra for them at the weekend. Room was a little chilly in the mornings, until around 10.30, presumably when the heating kicked in for the pub downstairs. Not a problem for me personally, but others would have noticed. That aside, everything else was excellent.

The breakfast was superb, quality and quantity, couldn't fault in any way. The staff were so friendly and helpful, giving us places to visit on our stay which we wouldn't have known about. The food in the restaurant was delicious, we ate there both nights of our stay, all in all a fantastic place to stay, a big thank you to Richard for our lovely stay.

Music and noise from the bar was quite noticeable in the room I stayed in - earplugs recommended for light sleepers

Breakfast not included ,previous years paid direct this year it had to go through booking. Com which added a considerable amount to my price of previous trips.

This was an excellent spot for our needs. We were heading to a wedding in Eden Barn and we couldn't have stayed in a better place fir convenience

Excellent location. Comfortable and huge room. Reasonably priced meals and the large Full English breakfast was huge. Very generous portion and nicely cooked. Staff very friendly and helpful.

The staff went above and beyond to accommodate my late arrival. Breakfast was delicious. Room and bathroom were clarge, comfortable and clean. The bed was huge.
