A lovely bolthole north of the Coast to Coast walk for our sixth night on the trail (we had a shuttle in the form of our son and campervan). The staff were so welcoming, friendly and helpful, especially when we had a problem with the shower and they let us use one in another room before dinner. The food as some of the best I've eaten in a long time...thoughtful menu and variations to the standard stuff we'd been served most of the week. The rooms were great, beds comfortable and the location perfect for what we needed.

The only thing I struggled with was dragging my elderly legs up to the flat after five days of trekking - entirely self inflicted.

Convenient, central location. Ideal for my Settle and Carlisle Railway trip and for buses to Lake District. Staff friendly and helpful from moment I arrived. Really welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Room was very spacious for a solo traveller. Bathroom was sparkling and well equipped. Shower very easy to operate. Excellent breakfast and dinner.

Nothing really, except steep stairs up to my first floor room were a bit challenging but only because I have a knee problem. Staff carried my case up and down the stairs without me even having to ask. Coffee making facilities very basic and no biscuits!

We stayed at 5 The Mews. As soon as we walked in we knew we wouldn’t be leaving again that evening. Having traveled for 8 weeks it was like a home away from home. There are electric recliner couch and seat in the lounge which are devine. The TV gets all the streaming services if you have an account. There is air conditioning. The shower is easy to work and is hot and strong.

The bed is made of 2 single beds pushed together with no topper, so there was a large gap down the middle. The bed is also short, I’m 5’8 and my feet hung over the end of the bed.

I didn't stay at the Crown & Cushion but at one of their cottages called the Mews which is a short distance from the pub/hotel. It was immaculate and appears to have had a recent renovation/refurb. The apartment is perfect for one or a couple and if you're a biker, you can park your bike right outside the cottage (off the road). It was self-contained and all the equipment, including towels etc. appeared to be brand new. There is a Co-op almost opposite which is perfect for getting food stuffs in etc. and if you want to go into the centre of the town for a pub visit, it's literally a couple of minutes walk...

This is not a criticism of the property so not directed at them but if you are troubled by noise then be aware there is a bit of a stomper living in the rented apartment upstairs. The thud, thud, thud across the ceiling was troublesome for me, especially as whoever lives there is an early riser. Earplugs would be an option for anyone who finds noise like this an issue. And the only other negative would be the bed - I suspect new mattresses would make it a lot more comfortable.

Location was in Mews apartment across river from Crown and Cushion itself - about 5 minute walk from town centre. Apartment very well equipped, modern, clean well furnished. Bed comfortable,. Staff at Crown friendly and helpful. Dinner at Crown and Cushion was very good, well cooked, generous portions. Location of Crown in centre of town very handy for local attractions, Appleby Castle, leisure facilities, historic Alms Houses and churches etc. Good centre for touring if required. Riverside walks,

Disc parking in Appleby 2-3 hours depending on location, so parking near Mews and in town not always available, information on alternative locations provided by Crown. No parking at Mews itself. Mews on located main through road so could be busy with traffic , but did not cause us any problem.

We stayed across the square from the inn, in the apartment. The decor was fresh, modern and furniture homely. The kitchen was well-equipped. We loved the remote controlled blackout blinds. The TV in the living room was huge, and the sofa very comfy.

There was no plug in reach of the mirror for using the hairdryer in the main room. The extractor fan in the bathroom did not work, meaning a lot of condensation after 4 showers. And unfortunately the noise from the next door pub was clearly audible through the front door even when closed. ( on a positive, ear plugs were supplied in each bedroom, but the noise died down after 11pm)

Pretty town, friendly staff, nice relaxed atmosphere, great dinner & breakfast options. Large, comfy room with a lovely view of the churchyard.

The room was above the pub and it was noisy until the pub closed. It wasn't an issue for me as it was quiet by 10.45pm. The church bells...as nice as they are, they do go every 15 mins! They should be programmed to stop ringing during the night. However, this would not put me off staying again. I was a solo female tourist & the staff were very kind & welcoming which far outweighed a bit of excess noise!

The property was spacious and had a very good shower. Convenient for the CO-OP across the road. A parking permit was provided for 3 hours of parking on the road outside during the day at peak times although a different location nearby was suggested for all day free parking. The property was warm with good storage space in the bedroom and the bed was comfortable although the pillows were very high and hard.

Apart from a few tea, coffee, sugar and 3 tiny milk sachets there was no welcome pack. The apartment was not 100m from the pub but at least 300m. The road immediately outside was quite busy and noisy at times. The lounge window faced the pavement and there was little privacy unless the blinds were closed.

We stayed in the Crown Cottage which belongs to the Inn. A recently updated cottage just a few minutes walk from the pub. The cottage was excellent in all respects and really made our stay in Appleby. The cottage is well presented, spotlessly clean with all your home comforts. A real home from home. We ate our meals in the Crown and Cushion, which has a good menu. Staff were brilliant and attentive, even though it was really busy. We can certainly recommend the property to you. You will not be disappointed.

Fantastic Modern 2 Bed Apartment in the centre of the lovely village of Appleby. We were able to park FOC right outside the door in the centre of the village which had lots of local shops. We had a couple of drinks at the Crown and Cushion and then had breakfast there the following morning. We didn't have too much time to explore the village as we were at a wedding at Holefoot but we all agreed that Cushion Bank was a fantastic place to stay and we look forward to a repeat visit.
