Staff service very good

Room 4 not much space between toilet and bath. Every time got out of the shower to dry knocked the toilet roll of the holder so little room

The staff were superb for both days and nights and could not do enough. There is a 5% surcharge added for tips which i felt was well earned. The food was excellent for both breakfast and the 2 evening meals we took. The hotel had a lot of character. The conservatory had amazing views over the moors and the dining room had a light modern feel to it

The room had a lot of period fittjngs and had lots of character. However, it was hot due to not being able to reach the windows. This character also showed in the age of the bathroom, within which the shower curtain was a little mouldy. The bath plug area was also showing signs of age with green limescale. The water pressure was excellent but the shower could not be adjusted due to a crack. Bar prices were a little steep.

This is a beautiful place to stay. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. There are several lovely relaxing areas to sit and unwind. The jacuzzi was fantastic especially as it was outside and the weather was gorgeous. The food is delicious and presented well. We will definitely be returning, even though we have already visited three times recently. The bedrooms are very comfortable. Our corner room has a lovely view from both windows. A great place to enjoy the Lake District from.

The young man taking my order did not pass on to the need for it to be gluten free. I clearly stressed gluten free and without the bun twice. Luckily because it came with a bread bun I realised it was not gluten free and sent it back so no harm done. The young men in the evening where no where near as efficient and on the ball as the older women at breakfast time, but I assume they must be new to the job.

The hotel is beautiful and the staff are amazing. We didn't get a chance to use the spa as it was a family get together but we enjoyed the conservatory, the lounge with the large comfortable sofas and in the evening the pool room. The food was excellent. The evening meal especially. All four of our rooms were upgraded which made the trip extra special. The beds and armchairs in the bedroom were very comfortable and the shower was great. The next day we spent in the Lake District to finish off a fantastic weekend. They catered for my coeliac condition with gluten free food and also vegan food for my son. We didn't have an afternoon tea but they looked fantastic.

Room in external lodge- bathrooms need updating looking rather tired. Wish hotels wouldn't tightly tuck in duvet!! You just then have to go around and tuck bottom sheet back in!

Location

Hotel is dated, needs updated, staff appearance and attention to detail was mixed. Breakfast was small and poor. Spa was basic and small pool.

Beautiful location and wonderful rooms to relax in. Would recommend to anyone. The staff were so warm and kind and helpful. My only critique would be the food at the bistro was a bit disappointing (for the price and chips were not fully cooked and a number of the gf options were just - without something e.g burger bun, nann bread etc, tea came with biscuits I couldn’t have - so while would have been nice to have an alternative given paying same cost) but other people’s food looked wonderful so it may just have been a one off.

All the staff without exception made me feel very welcome and looked after. I particularly appreciated being given a window table on my second morning for breakfast.

I was underwhelmed by the vegetarian and fish cooked breakfast.My dinner was also a disappointment in the Bistro. If I had been able to check the menu before booking ( not just photos) I'd have gone elsewhere. Not a great choice for vegetarians considering where I was staying. I'd have liked a fresh fruit salad to with your excellent granola and yoghurt instead of tinned.

Spa facilities were good. Great having a limited number of people within time slots. The hotel was comfortable, relaxing and the restaurant dining was excellent. The bedroom was spacious with a comfortable bed and armchairs. Fluffy towels and water in room. Quiet room with a view. Staff offered to help with luggage.

Things which could improve a good to excellent rating. The hotel could offer a shuttle taxi. We arrived by train. No taxi's in Appleby. The walk was 15 minutes , country lane,no pathway; not safe to walk at dusk. Only stairs to room; difficult with mobility issues. Consider a stairlift? The meals were excellent but for scrambled egg ; couldn't eat as texture was like mousse with more cream than eggs.I will ensure I ask the ingredients beforehand as I did mention to staff; they suggested I should have checked I hope these can be suggestions for improvements, constructive improvements not dislikes.
