Good location. Room very comfortable and clean. Staff friendly. It was good value for money and near to the venue (Eden Barn) where we were attending a wedding.

It was hard getting hold of the hotel to ask for an early check in. Food stopped at 6pm on Sunday which we were unaware of, but the bar staff did point us in the right direction of other restaurants which was helpful. Ashtrays outside were not cleaned for the whole time we were there. Ladies loos in the pub area were blocked up.

Room was clean and well laid out with tea /coffee making and nice while fluffy Towels. The manager ( Tina) was very welcoming and friendly and couldn’t do more for us.

Just wish the brewery would allow some more creativity in the kitchen and move away from usual uninspiring deep fried ‘food service’ meals. Not the fault of the chef or land lady as I suspect the brewery dictates what can and cannot come out of the kitchen. Kirkby Stephen is crying out for a great eatery ( other than curry) in my opinion.

Stayed one night while walking the Lady Anne's Way. Twin room with ensuite had been recently refurbished to a very high standard. Room very clean, beds and bedding all excellent. We had our evening meal in the pub and meals were great, both food and drink reasonably priced, staff friendly and helpful. Early start so we didn't have the breakfast. The pub was quite lively on a Saturday night but noise didn't carry up to the room. Would definitely stay at the Black Bull again.

Everything was perfect with our stay and we would definitely stop again ..! I can't complain about anything really , we had a very pleasant stay and the location is brilliant.

Not the black bull, the black bull fault at all ... but there were a lot of flies in the dining room at breakfast. The only thing I would say that needs improving would be the pressure on the toliet. This wasn't all that good. I had to flush the toilet a few times to get rid of toilet paper .

I was on coast to coast.. a long distance walk across the country and booked here as a bit of a treat for midway... And must say, what a lovely place.. amazing staff, very well equipped room, and food was so nice .. Arrived a little early and as room was ready was allowed to check in early... Cannot honestly complain about anything.. And will visit again... thabkyou to all your amazing staff ... Stayed 3rd May ... A friend also met me here and we had tea... he too was very impressed...

The room was very nice and comfortable, had a good front room so could see out. Bathroom was well equipped with bath and shower. Bedding was lovely and towels were clean and soft. Would definitely stay again, was very clean and great value.

The only thing we can say is the fact the pub was closed due to Appleby , we understand it’s not the pubs fault but was quite unnerving that nobody was there at all, wasn’t sure what to do regarding check out and we didn’t have any emergency numbers etc. There wasn’t any kind of alternative for lack of breakfast etc as nowhere at all was open so it was very hard to find somewhere to eat and all seemed quite like nobody wanted to be around to help. Again we know it wasn’t the hotels fault as Appleby fair was around so would love to come back when it isn’t :)

Super location. Large, clean, comfy family room with quality bed linen and towels. Sensibly priced drinks, meals and breakfast. Large clean family bathroom.

Poor Wi-Fi (due to rural location) in room. Sometimes struggled to find staff when required. Seemed to be short staffed, perhaps?

Parking isn’t a problem Staff very welcoming and cheerful Room was large and good shower with all amenities Food was exceptional and breakfast was outstanding

Can’t open windows more than an inch so was a bit stuffy and the bed was far too soft for my 115 kg body

This was an unexpected visit for us as due to the weather we couldn't continue our journey and had to find a place to stay the night in Kirkby Stephen . The hotel accommodated 5 of us and we were very happy that there was rooms available. The rooms were clean and comfortable and it was an overall good experience.

Great location. Rooms right above the bar but there was hardly any noise. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The hook for the shower head was broken so that made showering awkward 😂
