The Tan Hill Inn is at a superb location. We loved the beautiful hike to Ravenseat and Keld. Also, we loved the inn itself with its Pub atmosphere and good heating (which is a good thing to have even in August). The food was very good Pub food including Sunday Roast with great Yorkshire pudding, the selection of beers was excellent. We were pleasantly surprised by our room, small but cozy (and warm), and nicely refurbished. When we had questions, Ian the manager was very attentive and competent.

The service was of mixed quality as regards dining. We had our food served promptly on a Sunday morning and night but waited almost an hour Monday morning and Saturday night. Also, for evening reservations, the 1.5 hours allotted were not long enough for more than one course (due to the long wait for the food, esp on Saturday when a live band was scheduled to play and the inn almost burst at the seams). The manager sorted this problem out, but it was an awkward situation with other guests and we learnt to in advance ask for a table that didn't have a booking 1.5 hours after ours.

This place is definitely worth a visit. Staff were brilliant... really pleasant. They had their work cut out due to walkers, and a wedding ceremony as well. Food was really good and value for money... bed was very comfortable

Just 2 slight grumbles.... large cobweb in the cubbyhole above the dressing table/ mirror.... and the door that led to the toilets in the bar area could do with a bit of padding... ha, our room was directly above it. Just a heads up.... nothing against Tan Hill, but if you visit and it's your 1st time, watch some of the roads.... may catch some out, whether on 2 or 4 wheels.

The location is fabulous, out on its own and right on the Pennine Way walk. This is a real old fashioned pub with a log fire, excellent friendly staff mostly, and a live band three nights a week. Food is very nice - try the giant yorkshire pudding! Our room looked newly refurbished and was very comfortable with a smell of real wood and an incredible view over the moors. Lovely atmosphere, would definitely go back.

The drinks are not cheap but you can forgive that for the location. The guy in charge was very friendly and efficient. Even the guy cleaning the glasses and serving food had a smile and a wink for everyone. There was just one guy who seemed stressed and unhappy. When I tried to order a drink that was advertised on a board beside the bar he just said it was unavailable and shrugged his shoulders when I suggested that the advertising board might need updating. Breakfast was not quite to my taste. The fried egg was overcooked and the bacon was undercooked. Service was excellent though, with a sausage for the dogs!

Theakstons Old Peculiar on Draught was the highlight! The room was superb especially like that it had a stove in the corner. The good was excellent and big portions. The cooked breakfast was great. The river Swale was at high flow over the Waterfalls but I didn't have my kayak! The location is great. I was lucky enough to see the Northern Lights as well! 😃 Perfect.

The only couple of problems were that the hot water wasn't working one morning but it was quickly rectified. The window on the car park side of room 7 needs attention as wind was blowing through it when closed albeit it was very windy that night.

The breakfast was excellent we were greeted by Dave who fully explained the situation regarding cereal fruit juice and coffee whilst showing us to our seat. He informed us that he would return to take our order for the cooked breakfast which he did and as I say was well prepared and of excellent quality. Dave returning to ensure all was well with us or if we required anything extra El one of the employees who served us during the evening of our stay was very pleasant and friendly whilst being very efficient to all our needs and requirements whilst serving and attending to us during our evening meal We single out those two employees but others who we didn’t interact with seemed to efficiently get on with their work

We did not dislike anything

It's so much quicker to say what we didn't like, but here we go. We stayed in one of the superior double en-suite rooms which was the one with the bath, and wow, what a bath. The bathroom was spacious, stunning and very clean and shiney. The bedroom area was also spacious, clean and comfortable. For an Inn in the middle of 'nothingness' we were more than happy with our room and very suprised at the size. Every member of staff were so welcoming, friendly and helpful. They were a joy to be in the company of. The breakfast was very good and plentiful. We had our evening meal here and every meal we saw come out looked very appertising. Hubby had the half rack of ribs which he said were really, really good. Now I'm not a big eater, but I love a Yorkshire pudding, so when I saw 'Giant Filled Yorkshire Pud' on the menu, I had to have it. Expecting a dinner plate sized Yorkie filled with meat and veg, I got it slightly wrong. Not only was it dinner plate size horizontaly, it was the same size vertically, and it was filled to the top! Delicious as it was, I couldn't finish it, and neither could hubby finish my leftovers (which is unusual for him). The whole experience of spending the night here was brilliant. Well done and thank you to every member of staff for making our stay that way.

So now on to what we didn't like........ It was a cloudy night so couldn't see any stars! That was the only thing we didn't like and not a thing that even the wonderful staff could sort out for us, but I'm sure they would have if it had been within their powers x

Location amazing Staff are amazing and no messing around with them either The food was decent (considering how busy it was) Room/dome amazing Lost my table I booked and it ruined the evening, was given a another table that was too small, took half hour just to sort that and put.my food order in,, but next morning service for breakfast made up for it, whole issue was other customers not being on time so its not the staff, Campervans run riot on a friday night, so I won't book a weekend again, campers sneakily use the shared toilets and shower that's for the dome/room bookings, they know this they have their own shared facilities, Campervans shouldn't be allowed to hold a spot for their mates, could see this, and was holding others up, war zone with them lot, and I have a campervan, Suppose you get the jist, they pay 5 quid donation for the privilege, or you can pay 180 quid for you and the missis with the exact same privileges, The site needs to control campervans better by allocating spots maybe,

Truly unique venue Evening meal very good, a really good atmosphere and vibe around the place, and views around the place are excellent.

Check in process poor. No one told us about breakfast when and where etc. We had to ask ourselves after the evening meal . Consequently our names weren't present in the morning either.. didn't know where to sit us initially. Breakfast was ok... Personally I don't like hard fried eggs. Tomatoes were cold we were the first sitting too at 8:30 so don't know if that got better for the second sitting

The remote location. The excellent entertainment (Brian Adam’s Experience). The room accommodation.

The long queues at the bar simply to ask a question to then have to queue again to give the answer once the group has been consulted. Example to announce arrival for breakfast to find out which table to sit and then queue again to place our food order. This could take up to one hour before any food arrived. Also no member of staff knew what time checkout was 10am or 11am.

Amazing scenery all round driving up to the Inn. A wonderful aquainted building, set just in the middle of nowhere. Inside, is a gorgeous, cosy and inviting bar. Met with a warm and happy welcome by the bar staff! They were such nice people and very accommodating. Our room was cosy with fantastic views plus with our window open you could hear the iconic sounds of many bleeting sheep! The food was lovely and so was the ale! Overall we had a fantastic stay!

The shower had fixed head in ceiling. I like a flexible shower head and lead. No herbal teas offered with tea and coffee in the room. No souveniers to buy!
