Very easy to find off the A66 . Looks impressive from outside . Our room was located in an annex just outside past the spa . Room 40 , spacious, with a beautiful four poster bed . I had booked a 'superior room ' , I wouldn't class it as superior but nice all the same . Bathroom had shower and huge separate bath . Very clean too . Nice bath towels , just missing a hand towel . Lovely complimentary soaps . And tea/coffee tray was nice , quality items . Bed was very comfortable. Double sockets either side of the bed . Hotel bar was nice with comfy seating and hand painted wall coverings . Plenty of seating outside in the garden where we also enjoyed a drink . Dogs are welcome in the bar area which we didn't mind at all . We ate in the Gilroy's restaurant in the evening , it was busy with a nice atmosphere. Michelle, our waitress is lovely , she lives locally and is a credit to the hotel . The younger waitresses are also nice , service was good . Our meals were beautiful, couldn't fault the menu , price and quality. Not a scrap left on our plates , and the pudding was also very yummy . 2 adults , 2 main meals and 2 puddings with 3 drinks cost £66 . Worth it . You get a bottle of water too on your table. There are lots of areas in the hotel to relax in , comfy sofa's and arm chairs. Breakfast is served in the Gilroy restaurant, it was busy but attended to with ease by the lovely friendly staff . I can tell you that the Breakfast was amazing , menu on the table but you help yourself to the continental options and cooked options , you can even ask for other specific items that are cooked to order . The choice was superb , and wow the quality of everything I ate was superb . There is something for everyone . Check out at 11am is great . I was gutted we only stayed 1 night .

Beautiful location, very comfortable and well furnished room. The hotel was so quiet, I never heard another guest. Breakfast was good and a good selection, although my poached egg was hard boiled☹️. I had some time in spa and a fantastic treatment Would definately stay again.

Although enjoyable, spa organisation could improve as my time slot has to be re-arranged twice and I didn't really get 90 mins in spa as by time I'd filled paperwork in, was shown around spa and changed - almost 30 mins had passed.Spa could be improved by addition of an aroma type heat room.

The hotel is a country house style hotel with some charming features such as the cosy log fire and wonderful wall murals in the Dickens bar. We chose to eat in here as it had a more relaxed vibe than the Gilroy restaurant. The twin bedroom itself was a little outdated in style but the bathroom was clean, spacious and up to date. Dinner was taken in the cosy Dickens bar area but we were able to choose items from the more extensive Gilroy restaurant menu. Good choice of hot cooked breakfast as well as continental breakfast options. Staff were all warm and welcoming. Time spent in the Garage Spa was good value for money too.

Our room was above the kitchen area so a little noisy until dinner service was completed. The spa area would benefit greatly from having a dedicated quiet area with loungers to relax and sleep.

Lovely location, stunning gardens just beautiful. Second visit to The Morritt. lovely hotel full of character. Check in very straight forward and a little early which was good. Food in the restaurant was amazing, same as last visit, perfect couldn't fault it. Lovely friendly staff in both Dickens Bar and the restaurant and absolutely love the artwork in Dickens bar. Lovely young waitress in restaurant Sunday Evening March 30th deserves a mention, so friendly and really looked after us. Good choice at Breakfast, table service and good choice of hot food and cereals and pastries. We will definitely return to The Morritt.

Loved our stay, only small criticism is I would have preferred a latte or cappuccino with breakfast but only cafetiere of coffee was available. No teabags in room but reception gave us some straight away when we mentioned it.

This was a lovely hotel, and easy to find. Staff were so friendly, breakfast, room and dinner were very good. We ate in the bar and there was a lovely atmosphere. The double glazed windows were very efficient, since no sound of traffic on the nearby A66 disturbed us. We would definitely book again.

We do love a bath when we stay at a hotel. However, the one in our room was quite small and narrow, and so we experienced difficulty in getting out of it. Also the length meant no good soak. I was a bit concerned re having a shower, since the bath was smooth and not bobbly like some to prevent slipping. However, hot water was wonderful!!!

Nice choice of tasty dishes on the menu in the main restaurant, with the option for bar meals if you fancy a change of scene. We in every night and enjoyed our meals in both the bar and restaurant. Breakfast choices were freshly prepared to order. Our room was well presented with everything we needed... nice to have a bath. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.

We were glad to have a room to the side of the hotel, so not facing the A66... unfortunately we overlooked the courtyard where the delivery trolley woke us at 5am as it rattled across the pavement!

Lovely hotel in excellent location just off the A66 and about 10 minutes from Barnard Castle, the staff were very friendly and helpful good choice of food for breakfast and nice evening meal

The room was very cold we needed 2 extra blankets to keep warm at night even with the radiator on, the plug sockets in the room did not work not much fun trying to charge a couple of phones and Apple Watch. The hot water system left a lot to be desired had to run the hot water for about 10 minutes to get it to run hot dread to think how many gallons of water we had to run down the sink.

We had a dog friendly room at the side of the main hotel. The room was clean & comfortable. All the staff were friendly, and knowledgeable. Evening meal was nice, and the breakfast was really good. At the back of the Hotel is a dog friendly field, which led to a local walk. Lovely beer garden around the back.

The hotel in general could do with a refresh. I didn't see inside the hotel rooms, but our room in the side building although clean could do with updating, this room would also benefit from a blackout blind in the bedroom, to block the outside lighting directly opposite.

The hotel is in a gorgeous location with great views of the countryside, as a none driver though you have very long walks if you need to get something not available at the hotel. The bed was comfortable. . The room had everything we needed for the most part. Rosie and the lady who serves breakfast made our stay there genuinely better, lovely people with a great vibe and fantastic people skills.

The bed was very creaky and loud. Due to our room layout, you could only see the tv fully from one side of the four poster bed as one of the posts were directly down the middle of the tv however that would be difficult to avoid.

staff were brilliant, very friendly, very pleasant, very helpful. The room was very clean, the bed was very comfortable. There was a good selection of teas in the room if you are partial to having a cuppa in the bedroom. Didn't have dinner there so can't comment on it. A reasonable selection of cereals, mini croissants, pain au-chocolat and fruit juices for breakfast. The hotel is conveniently close to the A66 but on a little side road, you can hear the traffic if you are stood outside the hotel, once you are in the hotel you can't hear it at all. You are only a 10 minute drive away from the Bowes Museum, definitely worth a visit, and Barnard Castle.

The cooked breakfast wasn't brilliant if I'm honest! The bacon could have been used to saw wood and the sausage was pretty tasteless, the scrambled eggs were nice. On the second day I had scrambled eggs on toast, very nice lol. Maybe I'm being picky, it will vary day to day depending on which chef is on duty. Apart from that, there wasn't a lot not to like. Oh! I didn't see a lift if that affects your choice of hotel, maybe check the web site.
