We had a lovely one-night stay to celebrate a birthday. The village was quiet and relaxing with beautiful views. The welcome was very warm and we were taken straight to our room. I had previously requested a bottle of Prosecco for the room, when we arrived, the wine glasses were already in the room and the bottle was brought just a few minutes later in a cooler, wonderful! We had a table reserved for dinner and the food was amazing, it was locally sourced and tasted delicious, with good-sized portions (I couldn't manage a dessert and I love desserts). The bed was very comfortable and the bath was luxurious. Breakfast was, once again, delicious and filling. All the staff we met were friendly and accommodating. Overall, we couldn't have asked for more and we would definitely stay again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Millbank Arms.

We discovered Millbank when we were looking for a place to stay near a friends party. Tbh as we were using it simply as base, knowing we'd spend little time there, we didn't look so closely beyond its location. It was a wonderful surprise to see the rolling hills and countryside on approach and its a perfect introduction to the place itself. Yes it remote and so Millbank feels like a hug when you walk in. Gorgeous country colours, a true sense of a traditional old inn and yet beautifully renovated with incredible eye for detail and care. Our room was beautiful - vaulted ceilings, super comfy bed (which surprisingly isn't that common), and full of the right type of quirks! Plus it was spotless. (you know that feeling where you just know, as well as can see, they've gone the extra mile). The staff were all exceptional - wide smiles, friendly banter and a can do attitude beams out of them. Nothing was too much trouble and we came away feeling knowing it was a real find. Even the village itself is lovely if you fancy a wee walk after the tummy filling breakfast.

I guess some might comment on the fact there wasn't a stand up shower. It was fun playing with the "old fashioned telephone style" hand held one in the bath and for us it added to the quirk. And personally we are so over the identi-kit style of every hotel basically being the same layout.

Wow what can I say apart from this place is an absolute gem. We arrived at around. 2.30 pm and sat and had a drink in the garden while waiting for our room to be ready. We had a table booked for 7pm for evening meal which did not disappoint . The quality was outstanding and compliments to the chef. We absolutely loved our stay. Our room was stunning, the bed, bed linen and pillow were very comfortable which resulted in an amazing sleep. James and Katie front of house very friendly and welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. Also big shout out to all other staff who where all amazing . We will definitely return.

Wonderful welcome from James and Tamsin who went above and beyond in every way to make our stay so memorable. The room was beautifully decorated and the bed was very comfortable. The food for breakfast and evening meal was excellent. Fantastic steaks! All the staff were friendly, enthusiastic and helpful. Beautiful village setting near to Barnard Castle.

Everything was amazing

We had a great time at the Milbank Arms. We liked the room decor, generous space and bed. Food wise, the main course of fillet steak was amazing with the bone broth butter! The toasted bread was incredible. A nod to the chef. The location was peaceful and the pub had a nice, relaxing holiday atmosphere. For the price it was superb.

We stayed in room 3 and though it was fab I struggled to have a shower in the lovely large bath without water going everywhere. A shower unit would've made it a 10.

We found our stay 110% enjoyable. Met the lovely couple who runs/owning it. The food was amazing and the presentation was great. We found this place of stay very clean. The room was huge with a very large bathroom/modern. Service was brilliant. We would stay or call in again if passing by. 😁 Eating here was relaxed and such a lovely atmosphere too. We had steak. Cooked to perfection. Some lovely walks and seen loads if rabbits running around the tree areas. 🐇

The pub was lovely, the staff were very friendly and the evening meal was absolutely delicious

The room was quaint but very small and very hot. I wouldn’t recommend for any couples who have less mobility as the bed needed a stool to gain access and you could only get out from left side. Had this been clear when I booked I would have chosen a different room. They provided a dog bed and treats which was thoughtful,’.

Lovely building and beautifully renovated.

Bed up against the wall one one side, so made it a certainty that the other was disturbed when getting up to loo in the night, the bed was also seriously high to this was another issue. Shower was letdown by some of the lower tiles not having been grouted, which will cause problems very soon with water ingress.

We spent New Year’s Eve here and had such a lovely time. The team were very welcoming and friendly. Both dinner and breakfast were outstanding. Our room was cosy with a huge bath and lots of toiletries which smelt amazing. The bed was extremely comfortable too. We would happily stay here again and would recommend it to anyone.

Everything exceeded our expectations. Beautifully renovated rooms with gorgeous furnishings and obvious care to maintain character of building. Food was delicious and of highest quality. Staff couldn’t have been more welcoming and attentive.
