There was a really good selection of continental style breakfast foods with lost of fresh fruit. There were also staff around should you have a problem. Refridgerated juices, different types of bread available

The entrance/stair carpet would benefit from being changed as it looked really USED., but in a way that it had gone through many weather conditions with lots of clients. However that is not to be confused with the place being dirty as they seemed very vigilant with their cleaning overall. However it was the first impression of entering The Red Well inn. in conclusion i would stay there again

I had an absolutely fantastic experience at this hotel. From the moment I arrived, the staff were incredibly warm, welcoming, and attentive. Their friendliness genuinely made the stay feel special – nothing was ever too much trouble, and they went out of their way to make me feel at home. The room was spotless, comfortable, and well-equipped, with thoughtful little touches that added to the overall quality of the stay. The facilities were excellent too, and everything was maintained to a high standard. What really sets this hotel apart is the people. Every interaction with the team – whether at reception, in the bar, or with housekeeping – was a reminder of what great hospitality should feel like. It's clear that the staff take real pride in what they do, and it made all the difference. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and will be recommending it to friends and family. Absolute smashing place a proper little country pub , free parking lovely and clean and the food was probably the best I’ve had any where so far ! The toastie was beautiful and the chips are home cooked not frozen like lots of places the breakfast was defo one of the best I’ve had the sausage was not cheap ones that most places use the bacon was not cheap supermarket bacon and cooked perfectly the eggs were top notch and fried tomatoes that were actually fried and juicy !! Some places just dump half of tomato on your plate … lots of cereal n yogurts and toast unlimited tea coffee fresh orange and apple juice … couldn’t recommend this place enough !

This is a small hotel with about 8 rooms in the picturesque village of Barnard Castle. There is room for parking directly beside the hotel with easy access from the main road. The town centre is a short walk away and you are almost immediately able to access the picturesque countryside that you likely came for. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and well looked after during our stay. The accommodation was more than adequate for our needs, clean and tidy, comfortable beds and a good nights sleep. The food was delicious. The breakfast choice is your normal range, the quality is high and the food well presented. You’ll certainly find the usual requirements for your brekkie and if you need anything you just have to ask. We ate two evening meals in the hotel and they were delicious and to a high standard. Steak was cooked to the requested level and fish was battered perfectly. Staff welcome you with a smile and charm that County Durham is famous for. A special mention to Saff for looking after us. She even took time to show me a few of the local sights. Thanks Saff.

Pleasant room, well equipped, clean. Excellent service at breakfast.

I arrived back in the carpark shortly before 10pm, and the front door closed and was locked up just as I was walking to it! The bar was closed, I couldn't even get some ice or a soft drink. All locked up, nobody there. Did they not see me arriving? I'm a solo female traveller, so it didn't feel brilliant. Perhaps they could have informed me that it would be closed and no night staff.

The staff were excellent as they kept the hotel part of the building open for us during some renovations in the kitchen or bar area. This meant that we were unable to have breakfast there. However staff warned us about this and compensated us for this. The rooms we hired were spacious and clean with a good bathroom. They recommended a good Indian restaurant and ensured our arrival and departure was easy. We were unable to use the bar area or the outside beer garden but it seemed fine once work was completed. There was good information provided about a wide range of local attractions etc. Barnard Castle is a lovely town to visit. The location was easy to access in a quiet area just a short walk from the town centre. Car parking seemed plentiful.

Very friendly and welcoming staff, from the second I entered the property, to the second I left. It was so refreshing to see how quickly people came to welcome me in, and the great service received. Also, amazing breakfast, nothing too much trouble, and everyone went the extra mile to make sure it was an enjoyable stay. I stayed in room 1, which was very peaceful & relaxing. Thank you so much everyone, and well-done on your exceptional customer service. I hope to join you again sometime!

A lovely room with a huge balcony (if only it had been a sunny evening), comfortable bed, good tv, hot shower, clean, huge tasty breakfast and a wonderful girl Friday called Lucy, who went above and beyond, couldn't have been more obliging and helpful.

Nothing really, to nitpick, the decor is a little tired and a lack of milk alternatives, which Lucy put right in time for breakfast.

Small lodgings on the edge of Barnard Castle with ample car parking. The staff were friendly and helpful. The bedroom was clean and compact and everything worked. Breakfast is good with plenty of choice.

Be aware the Inn is on a busy road with much traffic noise. However traffic reduces during the night but may still disturb light sleepers.

Very convenient to Barnard Castle and it provided good food and a comfortable bar with a log fire .

For me it’s not the plushness of the surroundings that makes a holiday it’s the staff within. The staff were all excellent and always greeted you with a smile whatever the time of day. Always ready to go the extra mile to help, my thanks go especially to the young lady who phoned me up to tell me I had left my Ipad behind and kindly sorted out having it posted back to my home address..
