Lovely old building with loads of character and that extended to the room. Large bathroom and room with antique style furniture. Comfortable bed. Location perfect. Breakfast very tasty..
Really small point but would have liked a small table in my room next to sofa so when having tea while watching TV had somewhere to put my drink down rather than floor . Breakfast only seems to have one staff member to take and deliver and cook orders so definitely need to stick to exact time slot for your breakfast. Otherwise no tables available and would be chaotic. I arrived st my allocated time and one table only free. It just would take some guests to linger to cause problems.

I had a comfortable stay here and would stay again if working that way. Breakfast was good and I also had an evening meal there which was good too.
The bed was a bit lumpy and the room could do with some net curtains or blinds as the shops across the street can see right into the room. Also a desk with a chair would have been good so I could have worked comfortably. This would probably be useful for ladies wanting to do their hair and makeup I guess? Small points to address but I would have given top marks if these had been there.

Room was very comfortable, clean and warm. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good.
Only thing I would say is that I stayed in room 1 which was a lovely room but there is a small step on entrance to the room which is not easy to see and no notice on the door indicating this. I tripped on it and went full length into the room hurting my ribs etc. I have bad arthritis and joint replacements and so getting up off the floor was difficult but eventually did manage it. I just feel that either a warning notice is put on the door or maybe put a little ramp over the step to make it safer and easier to access. I’m sure I won’t be the last person to trip over it. Apart from that I really enjoyed my stay.

It’s in a great position and has a lovely albeit quirky atmosphere. We had a wonderful welcome and we loved our homemade Indian meal. It was a bonus being there on Open Mic Night. Great fun and great local talent. The bed was wonderful and so comfortable.
Not its fault but due to its age it is a bit tired. The waterworks are noisy, too. The layout of the downstairs rooms is a little odd but, again, its age doesn’t help.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is brilliant and the place has loads of character. We stayed on a rainy Sunday night after some mountain biking locally. It was a quiet night in the village, (as you might expect) and we arrive late evening, but the staff served us a Sunday roast for dinner, even thought they had finished for the evening. And there was a discount to the menu prices as we were guests! The room was large with twin sleigh beds, very clean and comfy all round.
We got a parking space just over the road, but parking isnt included. Everything else was brilliant at this price point.

Good location, Cracking breakfast. It's an old building reflected in the uneven floors and walls, but was clean and tidy and we enjoyed our 1 night there.
We were slightly early at checkin but already all the spaces for an early breakfast had been taken so we ended up delaying our departure so we could eat before we left. I understand the need for the booking system as the restaurant is quite small but I would also have been disappointed if we'd had to miss breakfast if we weren't able to eat late.

The Old Well Inn is very quaint and quirky and in a great location. Most of the staff were very friendly and welcoming. There is a cute little front bar with fireplace (although the fire was not lit on our visit). We ate dinner and breakfast at the Inn and both were delicious. The room we stayed in was on the top floor and was very comfortable and decorated to suit the age of the property.
The property may not suit people with mobility issues due to the stairs. Travel light as you will have to carry your luggage up the stairs. The shower in the room was a little hard to work out.

Lovely staff who were very accommodating of our awkward check in time. Breakfast was great. Room was nice and big with a decently comfortable bed and plenty of wardrobe space. En-suite was usable but small with an okay shower.
Shower wasn't the best. As a whole felt a bit overpriced but to be fair was comparable with everything else in the area.

The old well is a unique b&b with hundreds of years of history. If you expect a brand new build hotel, then this is not the place for you. However if you want to stay in a historical building with all the things that come with a historical building this is the place for you. The location is perfect walking distance from the town centre and the Bowes museum. The food is in a word amazing, I had a Biriani and it was the best Biriani I have ever had. Breakfast is perfect with just the right amount of food. The staff are really helpful and friendly. On the day we stayed the hotel was holding a breast cancer charity event and the hotel had live music!
Nothing.
