A lovely characterful Georgian town house set a wide tree lined road with easy parking, on the edge of Barnard Castle. Professional and friendly hosts, Carole and Trevor, are keen to ensure all expectations are met and that your stay is both enjoyable and memorable. Immaculately clean and well presented throughout, the property features good sized rooms and a particularly noteworthy bathroom featuring roll top bath! An excellent breakfast comprising locally sourced produce, is served in the beautiful dining room. Newgate House can be highly recommend for short and longer stays in Barnard Castle at any time of the year.

Nothing to dislike!

I loved my stay at Newgate House! Carole is a lovely host and her house is beautifully decorated with antiques and nice furniture. The location is central and within easy walking distance of the shops, restaurants and the Bowes Museum.

The house faces a road that has heavy trucks going through it, so it’s not possible to have the windows open at night, which means that the the room can get warm. It would be nice to have a fan available for air movement and white noise. Having said that, I am a light sleeper and managed to sleep well!

The house was amazing, beautifully decorated, furnished and presented. Our room was a large double room with all the usual amenities and much much more. Our bathroom was exquisite, having a large roll top bath and a large separate shower. The addition of a Bluetooth speaker made a relaxing bath so much better. Our hosts were a very warm, friendly and efficient couple who made our stay a wonderful time and we will definitely be back in the future.

We have just left Newgate House, after an amazing two night stay, while we attend a friend's wedding in the area. This place is amazing! We had such a great stay. The decor is beautiful, everything was pristine and clean. We cannot fault it! Every little detail was thought about from having usb sockets by the bedside, to having a make up remover cloth in the bathroom. Everything you would need for an overnight stay was provided. The breakfast was fantastic. Plenty of options available and set out beautifully in the dining room. Carole, the owner, was so friendly and attentive. Having driven up from the South Coast, getting stuck in traffic and therefore missing the allotted check in time, Carole didn't have an issue with this and happily waited for our arrival, which we appreciated. We would highly recommend staying here and would happily return, if we were ever needing a place to stay in the area again. 10/10 from us! x

Carole and Trevor were kind and generous hosts, who were a pleasure to speak to. The room was spotless, breakfasts were great, the house itself was lovely. We arrived late on Friday evening after catching a late train and nowhere in town was open to get food from. Carole kindly brought us a tray of toast, butter and blackcurrant jam to make sure we didn’t go to bed hungry.

This is the best B and B we've ever stayed in. A beautiful house in a good location. Everything spotlessly clean and immaculate and great attention to detail. Our hostess, Carole, was so kind and thoughtful. We had a lovely, comfortable room. The breakfast was wonderful. We loved everything about our stay.

Everything! Spotlessly clean and immaculately decorated with a very good breakfast. Our hosts, Carole and Trevor, we're the perfect hosts, very friendly and helpful with good local knowledge....what more could you ask for! The location was within a very short walk to both the centre of Barny and the Bowes Museum.

We have never stayed anywhere as amazing as this. The room and bathroom are beautiful, so lovingly put together and extremely comforting. Our host was outstanding, she was a pleasure to chat to and was the absolute highlight of our stay. The breakfast was perfect, everything was delicious and made with care and love. With the quality of the stay I would have happily paid twice the price we did!

Immaculate room and bathroom in a beautiful property. Huge roll top bath .Thoughtful touches such as robe and bathroom bluetooth speaker. Beautiful breakfast, including homemade granola. Warm friendly helpful hosts. (Carol is a delightful lady) Fresh milk for drinks within the room. Armchairs within the room as well as smart TV. Easy parking. Very fairly priced. ...fantastic stay. Cannot recommend highly enough.

There is nothing to dislike at Newgate

Spotlessly clean,comfortable and beautifully decorated Breakfasts were delicious and well presented Easy to walk to the town, Bowes museum, castle, river. Easy to drive to other places of interest or there are bus services in the town

The bathroom was beautiful but the step down into it didn’t feel safe for us It took a long time to regulate to a comfortable temperature
