Our room was a great size and clean. It had everything we needed, but hubby did miss not having a TV in the room!! Refurbished bathroom. Great shower (water pressure). Bed comfortable. Staff are absolutely amazing and make you feel so welcomed! Free parking right outside. A lovely place to stay. There isn't much around this area food wise but the staff will do everything they can to accommodate you in their restaurant! The food is delicious, and b/fast was included in our room rate!

Our room was directly above the bar/restaurant, so it was a little noisy, but they closed the bar at 11pm. We would definitely stay here again but would ask for a quieter room!!

Food was excellent

There was no tv or hair dryer in room. I went down to the reception to get a hair dryer. The mirror wasn't near a plug to do my hair though and the hair dryer only had a short cable so had to sit on the floor as the plug socket was skirting level. This wouldn't suit everyone. If you had an overnight bag you would be ok but not much room for anything else in the room.

It's an ideal location now. It's hard to overstate how quiet the village is now the A66 no longer runs through it. With so little traffic, the setting of the hotel is wonderful and no longer subject to be rattled by high speed lorries. This made the stay so much more pleasant and enjoyable. I appreciate the gesture of the management putting me on the top floor so that I wouldn't be immediately above a late night function. This made for a much quieter and undisturbed night. I also appreciated the accommodation for my bike, in a store room which ensured that it was dry and secure.

Perhaps have a music-free end of the bar so that people can choose how loud they want the music to be rather than always being close to the speakers.

Lovely property, big rooms and very comfortable. Lovely location with many places to visit nearby and lovely walks. Staff were great and really helpful.

Food can be better. The menu looked very good but it didn’t taste as good. Felt a bit overpriced as well. There is a good choice for breakfast but again I feel the food can be better, even the toast was hard and dry like if it was reheated.

The welcome was very friendly, food was excellent and in difficult cirsumstances the stay could not have been better.

Hotel had a problem with the boiler so provided heaters in the room and had ranging wood burners downstairs keeping the bar warm. they called us to warn us there was no hot water and gave us a discount to compensate, excellent service.

Very nice quirky place. They were a bit concerned when our four guests were a little late that the kitchen could cope with the timing but they did and from the varied menu the choices were made were excellent and prepared and served marvellously. We could have not hoped for better. We were on a coast to coast cycling trip and though the staff were not particularly used to dealing with cyclists did what they could to help us. You will need to bring your own locks to secure the bikes and if that interests you it's probably because you are thinking of cycling up Great Dun Fell the highest road in Britain about five miles away. Which is exceptionally difficult. So they may get a few more visitors pedalling up to their front door to test themselves.

In a perfect world there would be a locked shed or something for cyclists but it is not something we were too worried about as the back yard is locked up. If you require a specific room please be sure to write it in the extra section and not rely on your booking choice to be carried through. So for example if you want a twin room type that in the additional information.

A small hotel/pub in a quiet village off the A66, this made a good stop for us on the way back from Scotland, but could easily be a base for a longer stay (they seem to specialise in fishing packages). The staff were friendly. Dinner and breakfast were good, with a good range of choice (will cook a fish if you catch one). The room was cosy and comfortable.

We were quite happy, but it is an old place, so narrow stairs and uneven floor may be charming to some and offputting to others.

Lovely comfortable room. Large bed and good shower.

Got to sleep very late due to noisy pub customers right below outside our room. Really spoilt our stay as we were tired from a long hike. Not very sensible or considerate to put tables so close to residents rooms.

Staff so friendly and helpful, property had plenty of inside and outside space to relax in . Clean, good food, ideally situated just 5 minutes from the A66. We were travelling with our dogs and they were welcomed and accommodated as well as we were .

Nothing all good

The staff could not do enough to help. The breakfast was excellent. The evening meals were sumptuous. I wish I had found this cracking little place last time I was up here. And there was a bath - mmn!

The only thing that could have been better was had I been there for pleasure and not work.
