Lol...there was coffee but I wouldn't have eaten pastries anyway. Totally functional for what I need. I lived in Rochester/Rochester Hills for 42 years. I came down to see my kids and grandsons. Live in Petoskey now. In 1984 I was living in the yellow house across the street. I grabbed some stuff and walked over to the hotel (then the Spartan) and stayed long enough to watch the whole '84 Olympics! The only thing that could use some improvement would be the stark bright whiteness of it all. No ambient lighting really. Even the little nightstand lights were super bright white. Now this would never prevent me from staying again (I'm hoping Christmas if there's an invite) but subtle changes like a light bulb can go a long way. Nice job Downtown Inn 👏

Ignore all the reviews. It’s an inn that’s very clean, beds are very comfortable (softer side, not firm), and it’s a perfect location from downtown rochester, that’s really all you need.

The only downside is, and this is usually a common thing with inns, is the walls are thin. Had a guy 2 rooms down gagging all night, but I wouldn’t blame the inn, it’s just either people gagging all night, or inconsiderate people, all luck of the draw.

The room was clean and very comfortable. The lady at the front desk was beyond helpful. We had a second floor guest room which wasn’t good for me and she helped me up and down the stairs. Her name is Linda.

The person who answered the phone before the front desk opened was extremely rude, obtuse and not understanding or caring at all. If it wasn’t for Linda (see above), this place would have gotten a bad review regardless of the room or location.

My stay at the hotel was exceptional. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The highlight is mattress. It was so comfortable! I highly recommend a stay here. I found it to be very relaxing.

Adding a fold-out stand for luggage would be nice, there may have been one the closet.. Also adding a second film over the window to block the hallway light from outside view would be a nice addition.

I did not have breakfast, and I did not know that it was offered.

The only thing that I did not like, that I would recommend to improve your hotel, would be a full-length mirror. Or even a large mirror on the wall to reflect the upper part of the body. The only mirror in the room was the small one above the bathroom sink. I was in Rochester for a dress-up event and that is why I noticed the absence of a large mirror.

The property is in the process of a substantial redevelopment. It is well done. Basic, clean, modern room. Very comfortable bed. The room uses a coded keypad rather than a key or card, which we liked. Ideal downtown location. There are a dozen restaurants within walking distance of the property.

Need to state in advance that the TV is a ROKU set that appears to require guests on login to use. However, in 2023, perhaps basic hotels will be moving to such a service. Listed with a free breakfast. Description is liberal for a set up with small snack-type items.

The staff were very pleasant and willing to help whenever we asked. We would be happy to stay here again.

We were led to believe that we had the OPTION to move to a different room after the first night. Five of us in the group understood that this was the case. In reality our room with two beds in was required for another booking. This was not clear until the following morning when we were told that we needed to move. We had put everything in its place for staying for six more nights so this was very inconvenient.

The coffee was very good. There were sweets to go with the coffee.

The television programing. I don't know how to explain. It didn't have regular cable. Netflix and Prime were there, but I didn't have my passwords. The door of the closet was off and put in the closet. I also blew a fuse when I used their hair dryer to dry my hair. The coffee maker was on, the TV was on then the hair dryer. There were a lot of plugs, but clearly the room couldn't handle the hair dryer with other things on.

The location was very convenient; walking distance from downtown. The room was exceptionally clean, truthfully the cleanest hotel stay I’ve ever had in comparison to moderate to high end chains. The rooms was equipped with a table and chairs, fireplace, microwave and a small area to prepare meals.

The only suggestion I would have is the seal around the doors allowed quite a bit of street noise to penetrate; my room was located on the lower level.

Location was perfect for what we were doing within the town. Walking distance to everything we needed.

Arrival time was indicated within email and booking. No staff on hand to get room or to check in. Had to call a number and wait for email to be sent with room and code. Email was sent the following morning after check in stating room number and code.
