Location was terrific, an easy walk into the center of town. Hosts/staff were, pleasant, friendly and accommodating. I was in town visiting friends, consequently I was out and about for all of my meals. The old house is in remarkably good condition and speaks of a by gone era.

This is not a complaint, just a comment: Although the ceiling fan worked just fine, given the unusually hot and humid weather, air-conditioning would have been an appreciated feature.

We stayed in the Beautiful Gold Room. It was clean and comfortable with lovely furnishings. Bennington is a Beautiful area! We will be staying at the South Shire again. Their was a wonderful continental breakfast and we enjoyed our coffee outside on the Beautiful front porch :) Very nice experience

We didn’t get a chance to try the Thai Restaurant which we will make a special reservation for the next time we come :)

We were in the carriage house extension, the room was very cozy, very clean, and very comfortable. I enjoyed the amenities and had a good time in the jet tub. The location was wonderful, only a 5 minute walk to town, plenty of food and shops around. The decorations were beautiful, and the house itself was very pretty.

There was apparently a bat in the most expensive room in the main house. We did not experience that. The breakfast seemed a bit too fancy for a bed and breakfast. Whenever someone in the carriage house used a water appliance, we could hear it through the bathroom. There was also a lack of places to put a meal down on and eat from. The flat screen tv they advertise is smaller than the pillows.

The cleanliness and size of the room exceeded what i thought i would get. Even the separated bathroom was an interesting touch if not a bit strange but in a cool way. It was just for our room and directly across the hall.

No TV in the room but i believe that is the overall vibe of the facility. Going for that true B & B feel where you are removed from the ruckus and busy pace of life. We just watched some programs through a tablet.

The location is fabulous. It’s convenient to all of Bennington, as well as Routes 7 and 7A, for exploring all the surrounding towns. The inn is beautiful and we were sorry we didn’t have more time there to sit and relax on the pretty porch or perhaps play a game or two in the sitting room. Joe is a perfect host and we hope to go back soon.

Having a small refrigerator in the room would have been helpful to keep fresh all the wonderful Vermont goodies we purchased!

We had a large bedroom with private bath in a beautiful, large and classic home. The owner and staff were most welcoming and helpful. Breakfast and dinner were great meals. We left our car in the parking area and walked to the center of town a few blocks away. We were pleasantly surprised by a classic car show on Main St. We enjoyed touring the attractions of the Bennington area such as the Battlefield monument and the museum, which had a great exhibit of Grandma Moses.

Nothing - everything was excellent.

The room was fabulous, comfortable and spacious (Peach room), and the common areas are really lovely. Wonderful attention to aesthetic detail and very comfortable beds.

Breakfast was cancelled (due to illness) and the service during dinner on the on-site restaurant was impossibly slow.

Joe and Zoey went out of their way to make sure that I was comfortable while I stayed at the South Shire Inn. The rooms are beautiful and the breakfast is outstanding. I look forward to coming back in the future.

Beautifully restored old house filled with interesting items. Very much a snapshot of history. The main living room was absolutely beautiful.

No TV or WIFI. Bed was just a full memory foam, which being 6'2" with back issues, was not my first choice. Furniture was nicely done and pretty to look at, but not really usable, I was afraid to layout items or sit on the chair for fear of breaking or scratching something.

this is our second visit to this little jewel our room was large and comfortable. the breakfast was exceptional. the addition of an authentic thai restaurant was very nice. the food cooked and the explanation of each dish was a nice addition. service was spot on. joe as was the case our last visit was very pleasant and welcoming. we will be returning
