The location is perfect. All of Seattle's main attractions are within walking distance and you can find shops, restaurants, bars and supermarkets in the area. The staff is kind and works hard to keep things clean and neat. The free breakfast and open kitchen are great if you wanna just cook something for yourself and save a little money. Sometimes you can find meals for free in the kitchen. There's a Target next door which is very convenient. There's activities every night (with free stuff), allowing you to meet other people and have some fun. Everything is pretty clean most of the time. The rooms have AC and a small fan for your bunk bed. I visited on August 2024.

I wished the bunk beds had like a little shelf on the wall or some kind of surface to leave your stuff on top of while you sleep. I had to keep my phone and stuff on the bed while it was charging and it wasn't that comfortable. Another thing is I worked on my laptop while I was there but there's not an area that's specifically for working so it can be a little loud or you can also find people eating in that area, this wasn't a big issue, though.

The atmosphere is very nice. The cleaning staff makes a very good job. The staff in the reception are very friendly and service minded. A lot of common areas exists, so you have plenty of space to sit and chat with other guests. The breakfast is good. I like that there are free dinner some nights, etc. The kitchen area is nice, but there are improvements that can be made. (See answer on my next question)

There is only one (1) micro in the kitchen which is very little for so many guests. The guests need to hand wash their dishes which is very good. But it is impossible to get them clean especially if you used oil on your food, as there are only cold water. Physical laws says you need warm water to fully remove grease.

Amazing location!! Right at the Pike Place Market, you can even see the neon sign from the common area. Staff is friendly, and I love the privacy curtains on the beds. They host events/free dinners on certain nights, so it’s easy to meet people.

Beds were hard as a rock, woke up a few times in the night because of it. The bathroom sinks were so small and there’s nowhere to put your stuff, so my toiletries kept falling on the floor.

Location was perfect, near the subway station and the pike market. The view over the sound from the common area was really beautiful. Staff was friendly and helpful, always ready to help out which I truly appreciated. The place felt safe and cosy. The room and bed (female dorm) had everything needed with a comfy bed and curtains for privacy. The breakfast was great added value with nice options and a large time window. The free walking tours and other activities offered are a nice way to meet people and discover the city. Totally recommend this place for a backpack/fun trip in Seattle.

The one thing I didn’t like so much about this place was the toilet/bathroom situation. There were 3 restrooms on each floor which comprised of a toilet and shower in each of them. While this is a nice amount of restrooms it gets occupied very often for a long time for showering making the toilets always busy. It also gets dirty very fast even though I did see the staff doing their best to try to keep the facilities as clean as possible. it would be much easier to have toilets separated from showers, and to have some shelves to put our stuffs in the bathroom while showering.

It was very clean, the location couldn’t have been better. The stuff was nice and breakfast included was sweet too and the price to do laundry was reasonable.

The rooms where so small that i couldn’t open the door to come in when the locker was open in that moment and i hit someone one time because she was on her locker right behind the door and you couldn’t really pack again if you had a upper bed. It was just really stuffed ( only for sleeping ok though) and there where not enough bathrooms for so many people. And i never needed to pay for towels before in hostels in the US (only 1$ but still).

A really wonderful (and, dare I say, magical) place to stay in downtown Seattle. The place is very clean. The staff are super duper helpful, generous, accommodating, and always present. The breakfast they offer (high-quality cereal, peanut butter and jelly toast, english muffins and fruits) are so deliciously filling--not to mention the eggs that they let you cook in any way you want! They also have free wine and ice cream evenings. In terms of location, you'll be a stone's throw away from the historic Pike Market and the first Starbucks café. Also right next to a Target which is very convenient!

The best hostel I've stayed in, just unbeatable in all respects! Stayed in major cities, but nothing compares with The Green Tortoise - it's a gem, a revelation! The rooms are big and even when I stayed in a 6-bed room, I had plenty of space to move around. Beds are huge and cozy with curtains around them for privacy, a dedicated spot light, and a fan, and yes, the room has an air conditioner. The mattress is very comfortable, the sheets are soft, and each bed has four, yes, four soft pillows. There are multiple private toilets and showers (with rain heads) on the floor for guests to use. With a relatively affordable rate, it provides free breakfast, dinner (on selected evenings), and free beer 🍻 out of their generosity. Green Tortoise 🐢 is hard to beat with its affordability, quality of service, outstanding staff, facilitues, and for its strategic location in the middle of the action. And yes, it's super clean and sanitary! Thank you, staff of The Green Tortoise Hostel - I had the best two days with you.

I hope that you will look into providing guests with liquid soap in the shower.

The location is in the middle of Seattle downtown, having good access to every touristic places. This hostel has a little locker underneath the bed for each person, allow shared room that tends to be messy with everyone's stuff to be very organized. There are free eggs, breads, fruits jams, corn flakes milk offerd at breakfast, and it was really nice to be able to eat egg in my favorite style when travelling.

Althought i know it's not hostel's fault, I'd like to note down for other solo travel girly that the street at the next block is filled with drag addicts and homeless people, at night time it was little sketchy. But this is literally the only thing I didn't like about here!!

My first hostel experience was 13/10. I arrived earlier than check in & I was able to store my bags with them. They gave me the rundown on breakfast, checkout, bathrooms, etc. I ended up buying a lock from them to lock my stuff up underneath the bed. I chose the bottom bunk in a 6 bed female room. There was AC in the room which was great bc it was absolutely hot outside. The space is pretty big, I had an outlet, bed lamp, a fan, and a curtain. I literally did not need to leave my bed unless it was for the bathroom or to eat outside. The bathrooms were pretty clean. If the bathrooms on the first floor were all occupied, second floor was easily accessible. The breakfast had the basics: fruit, cereal, coffee, bread, peanut butter, jam, butter, and I think oatmeal. Great view of pike place. It'd be a great place to stay if you have a concert at The Showbox. Staff were always so friendly. Big kitchen with fridges to store your stuff. Honestly great first hostel experience

I wish I stayed here sooner for my other concerts. I was scared to stay in a hostel by myself, but literally everything was perfect

Wow, this has got to be one of the best hostels I have ever stayed at (10+ yrs traveling). Everything is VERY clean!! Each bunk bed has access to power outlets, has curtains for some privacy, and has individual fan. Bathrooms/showers are all private which was a really nice surprise. Their security is excellent; security cards to access everything plus nice lockers big enough for giant suitcases. Free breakfast every day, and on every day of the week, they offer free beer or wine or dinner! And of course, right across the Market.

The beds are not super comfortable.
