A pocket of awesomeness on Earth I wanted a cabana on the beach and that is exactly what I got. A place to stay for 4 weeks , in a home from home environment and it was utter bliss . No five star needed . A Cabana, with air con, a bed , a shower , and a fridge . It is the only way to stay , in a place like Ambergris . Socialising like a local, hitching lifts in go carts , walking along the beach to restaurants , It was an amazing 4 week stay made all the better by Christina ( who runs the hotel ) and her trusted Assistant Grisella . Christina was a source of valuable information , having lived here for many years and nothing was too much trouble for her . She was an outstanding hostess who became a friend . There is a daily cleaning service, change of towels , a laundry service , on site cafe providing americanos and juice . If he started making pizza’s it would be a winner ! There is a security guard from around 7-12 am every night . Christina makes sure security lets her know is anyone doesn’t come home . I thought this was fab as a solo traveller . Really reassuring to know that someone had my back. Hotel de Rio is located just north of the town . it is utterly charming , a place of tranquility and peace . Opposite tranquil waters and some of the best swimming locally , I really could ask for nothing more . Like most of the beach , the beaches throughout AC have a problem with some form of harmless weed . There is an effort across the island to clean it up but it is fairly impossible . Therefore the best swimming is usually off a deck such as Hurricanes . There is also deck opposite the hotel - with steps leading into the sea and this is lovely ( and avoids the seaweed). In terms of restaurants and shops - see my TA review but it is no more than a 12 minute walk along the beach into the main town where there are plenty of restaurants and banks ! There is some residual noise from Wayo’s - most nights it is barely audible but occasionally they have a band playing.

Nice place just by the coast, comfortably outside of the sometimes manic golf cart dreadlock of the town center. The walk on the beach side to dead center is about 15ish minutes, 10ish to the first restaurants. Has a good chilling area outside with a palapa, chairs and hammocks. Thw staff is lovely and helped us with snorkeling tours and golf cart rental. The room was roomy with two beds and a desk + a minifridge. There are good breakfast options a few blocks walk toward the town and a nice coffee stand within premises which opens a bit later in the morning for people who don't usually wake up at 6am like us.The beach bar outside is far enough away that there is no sound pollution from there coming to the rooms (at least to the Casa Blanca building where we were). Decent internet for an island location: 26.90MB/s down, 25.17MB/s up, with 44ms latency.

The manager Christine was great. She provided lots of tips. Housekeeping was great to include doing laundry. The coffee shop was great, especially the one day that it rained hard. There were plenty of Adirondack chairs and hammocks outside with a little palapa area in the middle. You are close to bars, restaurants, and grocery stores. The room had a small fridge, and water bottles were provided. There was a water cooler in the office where you could fill up your reusable bottle. The a/c in cabana 1 worked well. The shower had hot water. Shampoo and soap were provided. There were 2 beds in the room. There was a small safe in the room. Big enough for an IPad mini.

Wonderful beach hotel with amazingly courteous and helpful staff who were always looking for ways to make your stay more comfortable. The location gives you wonderful Caribbean vibes, the place is spotlessly clean and there's security on-site at night for extra comfort. Loved walking in the morning to the cafes alongside the beach, even though most people seem to prefer golf carts to walking.

I stayed in cabana nr 5 and the only negative is that since you're close to the beach bars and the road itself, it can be quite noisy in the late hours. A good pair of earplugs helps, but for travellers with light sleep it might be a nuisance.

The cabana was great! Everything was very clean and comfortable. I enjoyed the small porch. Location was slightly north of town so a little less busy, but within walking distance of the ferry (~10 min). The manager was very sweet and extremely helpful. There was a night guard on duty which made me feel safe. There were many restaurants and bars in the immediate vicinity and the water was just across the frontage road which was a nice place to watch sunrise.

Adjacent to a fairly busy side road which occasionally got a bit noisy, but much less so compared to being in the center of town. Would have liked a small coffee maker in the room, however there is a coffee shop on site.

Hotel Del Rio is an awesome little hotel in San Pedro. It's right on the water and probably the best location you can ask for being a 5-10 minute walk down the beach into town. It is footsteps from some awesome beach bars and restaurants. The property was very cute, the rooms were clean and the AC was great. The staff were excellent and always helpful in providing recommendations/service. My girlfriend and I had a lovely stay here. Great bang for your buck.

The beach bars can get a little noisy at night. We used ear plugs which worked for the most part.

Christine and her staff were exceptionally helpful and thoughtful. They even left a birthday surprise card and cakes in our room for my wife! All of the things that matter most, bed comfort, air-conditioning and the design and lay out of the facility were spot on, and being on the north side of San Pedro, provided good access to town, but enough respite and peace, as well. Close to a great bakery and fruit shops, making it easy to do some self catering. Golf carts were delivered to the hotel on request.

The staff were amazing, friendly, helpful and always with a smile. The way we were treated was out of this world. A special thank you to the lady who cleaned our room. She was amazing!! The location is perfect, away from the town center and the noise. Across the road from the waterfront and a stones throw away from the beach bars, live music and great food.

Leaving the place. The mosquitos were a bit of an annoyance but hey.....we were in the tropics. Can get a bit noisy, our room was up against one of the roads which did get a bit of movement after dark.

Entire place was really nice, has a chill vibe, always well-tended. Hotel staff are super nice and helpful, always made sure I had what I needed, and offers good recommendations for activities and places to see and eat. Location was also great, next door to Wayo's and has an on-site coffee shop that has great service, a good selection of coffee and pastries for a light breakfast. The room has just enough space, towels are always fresh, has enough toiletries for guests. I really like the small sitting area outside my room where I can just chillout and watch movies while checking out what goes around. They also have a cool cabana and lounge chairs for other guests to sit outside. I love the big umbrella tree at the entrance of Hotel Del Rio, which gives it a little bit of a homey feel. It is also pet friendly so a couple of neighbourhood dogs can come visit and play with guests.

Gricela was absolutely amazing with all the communication leading up to our arrival, which made us feel comfortable. Christine went above and beyond to accommodate a request and make our Anniversary trip wonderful! The location was perfect for us with plenty of popular bars and restaurants within an easy walking distance. Being at the north end of town made the golf cart ride to Secret Beach very easy without having to go through the busy area.

It did not have a pool, but we were there to be in the Caribbean waters, not a pool.
