The staff were excellent. We were late and kept driving around trying to find the hotel. They were kindly waiting up for us to arrive and led us to a safe parking garage too. The breakfast was delicious- we were 6 travelers and they could pick the type of breakfast they wanted. The breakfast staff were equally pleasant. There were linens and towels in the room and soap and shower toiletries.it was very good value for the price. There was street beeping through the night but that’s just the city. We liked our little balcony too for fresh air.i would stay here again.

The hostel is very well located if you want to explore the city - I think you couldn’t find a better location, right on the Main Street. The staff was very kind and they give a towel and soap when you arrive. Beds were comfortable and the bathroom had hot water so overall the value is very good given the low price you pay and the location.

The WiFi isn’t as quick so if you wish to work it might be to consider - for me, it wasn’t an issue at all. The door didn’t have a key and although it didn’t feel unsafe, it still meant anyone could enter the room.

I've stayed here at least 10 times in the past 10 years and never been disappointed. Location is the best as It's close to everything and everywhere, museums, national theatre, shops, restaurants, parks and bars!! Breakfast is also very good and people working at front desk speak English and are very kind and helpful, Specially, Mr. Ricardo and Luis, and price is fair. Rooms are pretty basic and very clean(Thanks to MS. Patricia).

WIFI is not stable and keeps cutting off at times, but when It's working it has good speed, around 15mbp. They tell me It's the same for the whole country!

I was in a premium room. It was on the 8th floor at the back so very quiet. Great central location for the hotel. Easy walk from bus station. Felt safe after dark at around 7pm. Breakfast was great with fruit, orange juice, refillable coffee and a choice of traditional vs American vs pancakes too. WiFi on every floor. Safe in my room. And very cheap.

Only thing is that it's a bit dated but then if they redecorated etc it wouldn't be cheap so I'm perfectly happy

Outstanding location beside National Theatre two blocks from central market. Free luggage storage was very helpful. Nice breakfast. We came and went from this hotel three times throughout our comprehensive travels in Costa Rica. When I needed to modify a booking and the booking.com website got it wrong I phoned the hotel directly and several people efficiently got the message into Ricardo's hands and he made things right. Staff is friendly, location is secure and close to grocery stores, right on the pedestrian street.

Everything was exactly as advertised.

Such perfect location in center, in the middle of a walking street between the cheapest supermarket Palí and Central Market, what more can dream about. And for the best price in all the city! And having breakfast included for this best price is something by itself incredible. Thank you so much for your existence. Lovely people work there, many thanks to all of you. Everything is clean and beautiful and with hot shower. After reserved three nights I extended for two more, enjoyed a lot. Hope to come back again some day.

After a previous bad experience staying in a different area of San Jose, we were very much at ease here! Luis on the front desk was the highlight - super friendly and really helpful with booking tours and transfers, and he was happy to accommodate a last minute room change.

Don't expect luxury, but it's good value for what you pay. This is safest we felt in San Jose, but you should still be cautious in the area at night.

The staff at Nuevo Maragato were fabulous! My flight was unexpectedly cancelled and they quickly helped me with booking for another night (and at a reduced rate), and helped me the following day with storing luggage and directing me to the bus for the airport. They also had a very decent breakfast that was made for you on the spot. Location was very central and convenient, with a grocery store right below if you needed. Internet overall was very reliable.

There was no "common" space if you needed to do any work (other than the dining room/kitchen area, which was only open 7-9:30am). There was also no hot water, but that seemed to be a recurring thing wherever I went in CR.

The location is right in the centrum and walking distance of the market, restaurants and museums. Even in front there is a casino where you can exchange dollars to colones and on the side a supermarket for snacks and water. There is airconditioning in the room.

The room is a bit outdated with filty/very dirty looking carpet. The hotwater is not available everytime.

Location was superb. In the center of everything in San Jose. Staff superb, and breakfast included.

The bathroom needs updating. There were workers on the next roof platform. They started to work at 6 am and work for all my 5 nights, they even worked on Sunday. Not Maragato hostels fault.
