Lots of birds and monkeys visit hotel premises, large room, restaurant area was a lovely place to watch wildlife and has good European-style pizzas, near the river with crocodiles.

My bedroom window was next to the path to rooms (most rooms were like this) so not very private. There were also net curtains and no comfortable seating. So although you could see greenery from the window through the net curtains it isn't somewhere you can comfortably watch wildlife from your room - I would recommend going to the restaurant which has a good balcony for that instead. I could not get the TV to work. Bed was a bit old and squeaky. The road the hotel was on was not well maintained - would recommend a 4x4 to get there, especially if raining.

Cerro Lodge is a birder's paradise! We saw multiple scarlet macaws and dozens of other bird species. A troupe of white-faced monkeys and howler monkeys frequented the property. Views from the dining area were stunning. The front desk staff and servers were both friendly and helpful. Dinner was decently priced and tastey.

The Lodge really needs to embrace its destiny as a paradise of nature. It could become a true birding destination with a little more effort (e.g., conservation, signage, etc). Breakfast was lackluster and overpriced. The kitchen staff were playing really loud music and laughing loudly, which detracted from watching nature. There were also really bright lights throughout the property and flashing lights at the entrance of the reception area—not good for relaxing or for the wildlife.

Great facilities for the price.

Loud neigbhors very late into the night (not the fault of the establishment) but since there are no posted quiet hours this was an issue that the property CAN take care of. Staff making sure that the noise level is adequate for ALL guests rather than have guests trying to ask other guests to be considerate. Second, when calling the establishment we were offered two prices. One price for locals, another for guests. This kind of descrimination leaves a bad flavour for international visitors. If it were a national park where citizen taxes are at work and non-nationals do not provide that support then perhaps understandable... but for a hotel to offer two different prices seems like a disingenuous policy to guests.

Amazing views and photo opportunities with scarlet macaws and other species on and around the restaurant verandah where food is put out for them. Staff were lovely and very helpful arranging Carara park tours and taxis and food was good - especially the pizzas!

Not great for stays longer than a couple of nights as no clothes storage in the room - but I think most people only have a short stay to access the national park as it is rather out of the way and you need taxis or a car to go anywhere. Only Spanish on the TV but you don’t come for the TV anyway!

The location is great if you want to visit Carara National Park. The food is fabulous, especially the wood fired pizza. The room was also very spacious, clean and the bathroom is outside which makes the whole experience very wild. You can be sure that you will see scarlet macaws there, flying around and coming to feed near the restaurant (usually between 4-5 pm). It’s a bird paradise. The pool was also great, clean and you can see the sunset while soaking in the water.

Everything was perfect, no complains at all.

The place is beautiful, with cabins in the jungle. Howler monkeys, parrots, lizards, squirrels and many birds frequently visit the premises. The pool is great, and the views from the pool and restaurant are stunning. Staff is very accommodating. They serve excellent pizza in the restaurant, among other things. The kids loved it and so did we.

You need a car to get to the lodge, which is a couple of km off the main road.

Breakfast was quite good and location of a deck overlooking the forest with so many birds. Meals were also very good and had enough of a selection A/C was good as it was very hot outside. Room was quiet and a good view.

We had notified book.com that we had to shorten our stay by one day and they had approved it. We also messaged the property of this. And, when we arrived, we confirmed that the change had been made. We even signed a form stating the correct time. However, when we attempted to check out they said we had not made the change. The front desk also arranged a birding tour at the Carara NP, but failed to tell us ahead of time that we had to buy tickets on line ahead of time. Caused a problem when we attempted enter the NP.

Common area/Restaurant is very nice, you can see animals and enjoy the view while eating. Food is delicious. Quiet area in nature if you want a peaceful stay. Pool is also available.

The light in the pod didn't really work so it was a bit dark. Unfortunately my roommate found a scorpion in the room and you could hear some little noises during the night, maybe some beetles. But that's what can happen if you kind of stay in the jungle. It's also a bit difficult to reach the hotel without your own car/motorbike. Food in the restaurant is good but very expensive.

Peaceful and relaxing location with good bird wildlife - scarlet macaws, hummingbirds and woodpeckers to name a few. Very clean and spacious rooms with large, powerful hot and cold shower. Excellent ac Scenic restaurant seating to watch the birds and see the sunset. Good parking facilities.

Excessively long wait for food. Recommend choosing Italian dishes as others are a little hit and miss. The hotel has a policy of taking $50 on arrival, and then when checking out, they get a staff member to check the room before releasing the money back to you. There is no mini bar so I found this level of mistrust a little off-putting.

The staff was very friendly and the pool was great. A lot of wildlife in the surroundings and the pizzas were excellent. Also, we have previously read in another review that room 501 was not good, but could not disagree more with this. The mattress was comfortable and not that noisy.

There’s a deposit requested of $50 at check-in, which was not a big deal but was the only hotel in our stay requesting it.
