The room was really nice, and the bed really comfortable, I didn’t use any off the facilities in the hotel or had breakfast there, so I can only rate my time in the room, which was prefect, didn’t have any complaints and the staff were really friendly and always greeted me when I entered or left the hotel. Also a big bonus was I was able to leave my luggage there after check out, I’m not sure how long you can leave it as I only needed to leave it for an hour to get something to eat before I had to leave for the airport.

No complaints but just be aware the shower is built in a way that’s it’s in the bedroom and bathroom with no curtains just clear glass. While this might not be an issue for a couple if you’re two friends or sharing with a family member, your probably going to have to leave the room when they shower to give them privacy.

Great location, great facilities. Skybar in evening is a great vibe and the gym is amazing for a hotel. The staff is friendly and helpful.

For the price paid, the room wasn’t upto mark. There are flush sounds from nearby rooms due to poor acoustics. These noises were so bad that it would feel like someone entered the room in the middle of the night. Housekeeping could be a lot better. We had to ask the housekeeping staff multiple times to make our room even though we had the signs put up.

Francisco + the duty manager who's name I am sorry I forgot gave us a wonderful welcome when we arrived early from a Virgin Voyage and kindly upgraded us to speed up the allocation of a room and later delivered a bottle of cava which was unexpected and much appreciated. The pool bar + terrace is cool + a great cruising spot as is the bar on Sunday night with a marvelous Brasilian drag queen!

The location is vibrant and lively at night, with plenty of great restaurants nearby. While it’s not very close to the metro, it’s still a convenient area. Breakfast was a nice way to start the day. The room setup gave off a bit of a love hotel vibe, especially with the open shower design shower area and even two complimentary condoms, just in case romance was on the itinerary 😜 Food options were easily available even at midnight, and although I didn’t try it, room service was offered until 2 AM. The hotel also features a spa and pool. I didn’t use them, but the spa could be booked for an hour through the hotel’s website (included in booking)

They did ask for a credit card as a security deposit, which felt a bit odd—makes you wonder what happens if someone doesn’t have one! The hotel is totally heterosexual-friendly, but the overall vibe and most of the guests leaned more toward the fabulous side—very gay-friendly energy! 🌈 Also, our room had a fully open shower setup—so if privacy is important to you, best to ask in advance for a room with a more traditional bathroom.

A pleasant hotel with a friendly staff. There were some unavoidable design compromises in the room layout, as the building is not purpose-built, but overall can't complain much. The room was clean and tided every day. There are many excellent eating options nearby (La Flauta, Local Tapas and Billy Brunch Headquarters), but the top sightseeing sights require a bit of walking or transport.

The wifi was extremely poor, often not functioning at all. The toilet is separated from the room by only an opaque glass door, limiting visual and audio privacy. Soundproofing could be better.

Location and staff

The Axel in general, specially the rooms and the pool area are looking rundown. The pool area used to be such a cool place to hang out, but now looks sad and old , and a little dirty, specially the pool and def the jacuzi.

This was a last minute find and near all the cool artistic spots I needed to see. I could walk to Gaudi's house and all the restaurants that were on my bucket list. The front desk manager realized that I was uncomfortable with a few issues at the hotel, Joaquin and he addressed them for me and was professional, courteous and kind. As it was my birthday week he even recalled this and ensured the staff treated me well and celebrated me. The gym was small but very functional and my room allowed me a view of the city. The best feature though was Joaquin's attentiveness to my concerns.

This hotel is excellently located in the Eixample near the university. Staff are very professional and friendly. The rooms are fairly priced, decently sized and well appointed, and my room even had a south facing balcony which was welcome even in the winter sun. I didn't use the facilities but there is a gym and pool which I would definitely use if I return.

The wifi was very slow and kept dropping in and out. As I was on business, this was a problem and I had to keep tethering to my phone which is not ideal. Also, the kettle spurts out boiling water at the end which could scald someone so this needs to be addressed.

Excellent central location, great hotel facilities with a reasonably well-equipped gym and spa/wellness areas. Customer service from the hotel staff was generally excellent, with multiple languages spoken and responsive to any queries or issues. Impressively well-stocked minibar in the room.

For the cost of the stay, parts of the hotel were a bit dated (i.e. decor, room lighting, mirrors, etc.) and the 'wet' area in the rooms not always laid out or draining well. The street noise was fairly audible even on the upper floors of the hotel but it's a balance against the great location.
