Recycling an old monastery for accommodation makes great sense. I loved the cool, wide, corridors, marble stairs, high ceilings, and the little cloister where I sat reading one sunny afternoon. Friendly staff- and so helpful with my poor Spanish. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast buffet, and conquered the toaster after only three days. Our room had a balcony, and a bath. Loved that bath. Artworks and paintings are everywhere , preserved from its past life. It would be interesting to know more about their history.

Not every guest in a monastery takes a vow of chastity; an extraordinary amount of noise travels from the bedrooms and bathrooms on either side. I booked this hotel as it has a pool, which they advertised with Booking.com as open. They should look at that. The pool was shut, even the patio around it was off-limits, so there was nowhere to relax outdoors after long walks. I know this was down to the unpredictable weather, but, coming from Northern Europe, it was gorgeous.

Excellent value stay in this beautiful & interesting building. What a privilege! Beautiful furnishings in the communal areas on the ground floor. The swimming pool was fabulous & having our parking included in the rate for our booking was a bonus. The location was good being near the train station and a 15min to the main town centre. Our room was spacious with a comfortable chair, a 2nd chair & desk as well as a balcony and an outdoor table & chairs. Bathroom was good. Fabulous spot for sundowners sitting on the deck, overlooking the swimming pool. We would stay again.

No pool towels were provided unlike the listing information for the property. We didn't ask either so not certain, but noticed other pool users were using private towels, so pack one in or get clarification. Although the reception staff were not friendly we recognise that they were working very hard.

We chose to stay here as the historic nature of the hotel appealed to us. It's a lovely building and our room was very comfortable with a balcony overlooking the pool. There were plenty of sun loungers though as we arrived early evening, we didn't get to have a swim before the sun went behind the building (c. 6.30pm in June). Parking nearby in the Interparking underground car park was only 9.95 euros for 24hrs. We didn't book breakfast, and the cafe/bar area is only open from 4pm to 10.30pm so quite limited. We found some great restaurants nearby (La Bodeguilla was fabulous!) and took the car out each day to go to Valdegrana beach - 8 min drive (as they have sun loungers and umbrellas to rent (12 euros by one chiringuito bar and 17 euros on the other). Would visit again if we were over that side of Spain.

No major complaints at all but would be good if you could reserve a parking space at the hotel in advance

Excellent breakfast. To get there you pass through wonderful sections of the old monastery. The buffet dinner one evening was also very good and good value. It is a haven of peace despite being visited at the height of the tourist season

The water pressure in the shower was a bit feeble. We have to be OK with that because I am sure it is set to conserve water which is very important throughout all of Spain. A minor detail in the great scheme of things!

A beautiful old monastery to stay in. Wonderful building to walk around and get lost in. All of our group were happy with the stay there. Some had breakfast and were very impressed with it too. Rooms are old-fashioned, but that's part of the charm - just something to be aware of when booking.

Overall we were very happy with our stay. Our check-in experience was very minimal though - no chat, no offers of maps, or information about breakfast, etc. As it happens, I have stayed in El Puerto before, but either way, we weren't told anything about the town.

Room (we had a jr suite) and breakfast were great. The hotel is perfectly situated in the center of the town and everything is walkable. The garage was nice but they should include it in the price of the room since parking is virtually non-available outside.

The carpets and rugs are in dire need of replacement (especially in front of each room door! Some of the furniture could use reupholstering and the international channels on the TV are non-existent. There used to be CNN international and the BBC, now nothing (good thing we weren't in the room much).

The hotel is obviously steeped in the history of its past, with numerous halls which are used as conference rooms or various dining rooms . The hotel is more of a business hotel than a holiday hotel which suited us fine but might not be for everyone . I wouldn't recommend the hotel for families with children ....I can't recall seeing anyone under 35 at all. The hotel has been carefully and tastefully adapted from its former life and a lot of the monastery feel still remains . The location is really good and the car parking is an absolute must...you will not park much cheaper anywhere...be warned. The staff were as you would expect for a business Hotel...professional without being over friendly .

Nothing...Everything was absolutely fine .

Beautiful building with friendly helpful staff, particularly bar & restaurants. Very comfortable beds and quiet the majority of the time - plumbing noises from adjacent rooms but only brief. Roof top solarium useful as pool not yet open - mid may, this was disappointing. Great to have parking under hotel, though would be tricky with a large vehicle.

Some flooring in the bedroom a little tired along with corridors, but still clean.

The hotel was near the train station which was convenient. Not a lot going on in El Puerto Santa Maria, the beaches weren’t walkable, we got a taxi one day, Decided that Cadiz has a lot more to offer, so caught the train in most days,

One particular (older) female receptionist was extremely indifferent verging on rudeness. The younger receptionist staff were lovely.

The hotel is lovely, full of history and religious artefacts, being a converted monastery. There is a beautiful quadrangle in the middle which is great for an evening drink in the relative cool. Lots of places to sit to chill out or read a book. The hotel is situated quite centrally and has it's own car park. It's a thirty minute walk to the beach at the bottom end of town and fifteen minutes to the ferry which will take you over to Cadiz. There are some interesting buildings about including a castle and a fantastic church or two and lots of little squares with bars for tapas and beer. It all felt very safe around and about. The rooms we had both had balconies overlooking the pool area. We are a family of four and we were given adjoining rooms, which worked very well. The rooms were cleaned every day and the sheets changed. Thanks to very friendly staff - thank you. Our room had the largest double bed I've ever seen in my life. Very comfortable. The bathroom was spacious and well set out. Shampoo, conditioner and hand soap were provided in large push down bottles. Not very fine, but saves on plastic. The room had a fridge/mini bar stocked with beer and soft drinks. There were no drinks making facilities, which I guess is a British expectation, but would have been good because there was no bar to get refreshments during the day. The restaurant was self service buffet style for both breakfast and evening meal. For breakfast, there was a range of hot and cold food eggs bacon sausages and pastries and breads. All excellent, except for the yogurt on offer, which was some artificial concoction with beef fat in it! There was a very good coffee machine using real coffee beans. Supper, also self service was good. There was usually a meat, fish and vegetable dish on offer and a range of salads and starters, including cold meats. We stayed half board and everyone, including the vegetarian in our family was satisfied. Breakfast 07:30 -10:30.

The biggest downside was that there is no bar service during the day, just a couple of vending machines - The coffee provided by them was not the best. It was very hot when we were staying and so we spent a good deal of time during the middle of the day in the hotel. It would have been really nice to be able to grab a glass of beer or to get a nice coffee during the day and a drink by the pool would have been good. The bar opened at four pm. So fine for pre-dinner drinks.
