Wonderfully friendly staff. Comfortable room, well equipped and modern feel to this converted / repurposed building, completed to a high spec. Excellent breakfast.

Great location being only a few minutes walk from the railway station. The city, harbour and beach are easily reached on foot once settled in. The calmness of the inner quadrant is wonderfully soothing after a busy day sightseeing. The reception staff are really helpful and friendly. Breakfast was excellent with a superb range available and catered for gluten free without drama. Room and bathroom were fine. Our room overlooked the harbour which was great as we were able to see the cruise ships come and go. There is a road adjacent with traffic but was no real issue to us and was quiet at night time. Great location, friendly staff and the building itself is unlike anywhere we've ever stayed before, with lots of character and original (or so it seemed) fittings. The buffet breakfast is perfectly OK, with plenty of choice and the staff could not have been more helpful. Overall, there is a sense of tranquillity about the place.

The air conditioning was ineffective, so we had to keep the windows open – which is fine during the daytime, given temperatures in April. But that did mean there were a few mosquitoes in the room at night, leading to bites and interrupted sleep. The locals can be noisy late at night / early morning, which is also more of an issue when the window is open. If you arrive by car and park at the nearest car park (around 100m away), you have a cross a wide and (sometimes) busy road with your luggage. The nearest 'proper' crossing is quite a walk away, so you may be tempted to run through the traffic.

Hotel Boutique Convento Cadiz is ideally located in an old convent and has been entirely renovated. You have the beauty of the old cloister and the modernity of the rooms. The staff is very nice and helpful and is always available for advice and to fix something immediately if necessary. Breakfast provides a great variety of tasty products. They also have a deal with a parking which is very useful when you arrive by car.

It's very difficult to judge the balance between hotel and church and how space is divided between them but a greater space allocated to the hotel for breakfast would be great and it would help to avoid having to reserve breakfast time in advance.

The location is brilliant if you can stomach the €16 per day to park in the nearby car park. Very grateful for the upgrade to a studio room as some of the others looked a bit small for more than a few overnights... Breakfast delightful. Book a guided tour on foot first thing to get the most out of your stay. Don't bother with the redbus tour - the fun is wandering down the narrow passageways that make up the bulk of the historic centre. Loved it!

Access impossible to determine without forethought, a plan and a GPS. Follow the instructions for access down a narrow street but better to just park up in closest car park. It really is not far away across a busy dual carriageway with yet another easily missed narrow access... But worth every penny!

The location of the hotel is superb - close to the centre of the old town but not where it becomes very crowded when there are numerous cruise ships in the port. The room we were allocated was sizeable and had ample storage space both for clothes and for empty suitcases. Coffee making facilities were provided as were chocolates. The twin beds were very comfortable and in the wardrobe there were blankets, duuvets and extra pillows (in case they should be needed). The shower was very efficient with good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The atmosphere within the hotel is very calm and tranquil with, in places, as background music, gregorian chants. Around the hotel there are a number of public areas that can be used to sit and relax - both outdoors (in the cloisters) and indoors (in the library and sitting rooms). The breakfast provided is excellent with a wide choice of hot and cold foods, and a choice of fruit juices and fresh fruit. A selection of white and whole grain breads, cereals, jams, yogurts, and dried fruits is provided together with tea and coffee. As space in the breakfast area is limited it is necessary to confirm with reception (the day before) the time you would prefer to eat breakfast (the choices being, between 7 and 8 am, between 8 and 9am, between 9 and 10am or between 10.00 and 11.00 am). The reception staff was very helpful with excellent recommendations as to which of the numerous nearby restaurants were better than others. Also the staff were knowledgeable about their city and the places to visit (and how to get to them).

In the bedroom we were allocated there was only one armchair for sitting in to watch TV. It would have been more comfortable if there had been two armchairs. The TV is limited to terrestrial Spanish channels only - all with adverts- which for non-Spanish speaking visitors might prove to be a challenge. The size of the TV was fine and the reception/picture and sound quality good

Fantastic ambiance and decor. Great location on edge of old town and easy walk to places of interest. Very helpful staff. We wanted to try the Osborne sherry tour in Puerto Santa Maria but it was full. Receptionist rang around and booked tour at Gutierrez Colosia bodega. This turned out to be a smaller venue with lovely guide who took us through sherry making process. Then tasting of 6 sherries with nibbles. All for 15 euros a head so great value. Recommended. Take the ferry from Cadiz to Puerta Santa Maria and town well worth a stroll around after your tour.

Beautiful old building , super convenient for the station and a short walk into the city centre. Rooms were spotlessly clean , simple and functional. The breakfast buffet had a fabulous range of options suiting all tastes, including home made cakes and biscuits. It was excellent value for money.

The only thing that marred our stay was the poor soundproofing between rooms. We could hear the man snoring in the next door room to the extent that it affected our sleep.

The room was large and functional. We smiled to see two single beds a long way apart. The beds were comfortable. The breakfast was particularly good; the quality of the offerings was high. There is a serenity about the place. The hotel was exceptionally clean throughout and well maintained. The staff were excellent.

I am being hyper-critical here; this is an excellent hotel, and I can thoroughly recommend it. However: The breakfast room is rather cramped, and it was rather chilly (mind you, we visited in January). The pervasive background religious music (albeit very low) is a bit wearing after the first day (especially at breakfast). I can understand the need for a boutique hotel to have a theme and add 'atmosphere', but this was a bit much for my taste.

Terrific ambience with rooms situated around central courtyard as befits its conversion from the convent of the adjacent church. Rooms were excellent for a single traveler - comfortable bed and very clean. Staff were very helpful and professional. Great location on the south side of the old town - less than 10mins walk to the City Cathedral square. Host of restaurants, as well as sites, within easy walking distance

Whilst I enjoyed my stay, it should be made clear that the hotel is, in effect, an up-market bed & breakfast. Prospective guests should not expect any room service facilities or free add-ons. It is basic, albeit in a lovely setting. This explains why the hotel has, I believe, a 1-star rating. (In response to some posts, I see the management uses this rating as a defence. All I would say is that I paid much more than I would pay for a 1-star establishment and that is what matters) Again, whilst the room is fine - and I was in a room facing the waterfront road and had no real noise problem - the bathroom facilities are pretty basic, notably the shower. The management also seem obsessed by dirt and make-up on their towels.
