This is a beautiful hotel with modern amenities; spacious, comfortable and well-appointed rooms; gorgeous lush landscaping and absolutely phenomenal staff! Our room faced the stunning garden and swimming pool and had a designated cabana AND another private sitting area just outside the room! From our cabana, we enjoyed watching wildlife that included beautiful birds, tiny geckos and other native species. We also enjoyed an amazing on-site couples-massage. I can't say enough about the staff who were extremely courteous, attentive and helpful! We enjoyed an amazing breakfast each morning, which was included -- fresh fruit and a choice of several entrees as well as vegetarian options. This hotel is definitely one of the loveliest in Puerto Viejo, away from the noise of the downtown area.

Spacious room. The staff tried their best to improve our stay. We designed. Comfortable bed. Comfortable sofa. Lots of storage.

The breakfast was ok - I expected more from a boutique hotel. The bar prices were way over priced. The tv is small and a bit outdated to 2025. Kitchen have plenty of room and storage- but the equipment was old , and really only the basics - very easy to equip it with actual cooking gear

Best thing about Umami was the breakfast each morning, the peace and quiet by the pool, and the staff who go above and beyond

It's difficult to say a bad thing about Umami but we did find our bed was exceptionally loud. It was very squeaky. It can be difficult getting comfortable when each time you move the bed sounded like it was going to snap. That said, it wouldn't deter me from staying again.

A great place to stay if you want to be in the place of action (Puerto Viejo) but still isolated from the noise and crowds. A small hotel, very well designed around the pool area, with lots of of beatuful greenery, that almost makes you feel like you are in the jungle. Staff was very friendly and helpful, always ready to help with organizing transportation, tours or anything you might want. Breakfast was great, rooms kept very clean. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Two little details: since this is a 5-star hotel, I would expect that the staff would be taking our luggage to our rooms, which in our case was not easy, since we overpacked :) and our rooms was on the first floor. The pool is smaller than it looks on the pictures and the water is pretty cold, which meant that most of the time there was nobody in the water, which is a shame.

Gorgeous hotel right near town, lovely rooms, comfy beds, beautiful pool. Staff were so kind and always happy to help, breakfast was delicious and we would definitely return. Would recommend eating at the local Thai restaurant and Koki beach. We went for new year and the party on the beach at jonnys place was so much fun. We also used the garage on the corner to fix a flat tyre.

A very nice, peaceful hotel with not so many rooms, so extremely relaxing. The room was very comfortable, great AC, everybody was friendly, the breakfast options were delicious.

The hotel is in a strange area, but not a huge problem. Also, for a 5-star hotel, it was a little weird that they charged for the coffee in the room.

Gave us the key to the wrong room so walked in on another guest, staff didn’t apologise to us or the other guest, just blamed their colleague which was unprofessional Used plaster on the floor of our room Staff didn’t have that much knowledge about the area For a five star hotel, you wouldn’t think a soft drink would be served in a bottle (no glass, no ice)

The location was excellent, away from the main road but still close to all the restaurants and bars. The staff were really friendly and helpful with suggestions of were to eat and excursions. Thanks bracheal and tony.

Only negative was the constant lounge music playing in the bar area.

It was a lovely and tranquil place to stay. It was relaxing and you had nature on your door step. The breakfast was amazing , the staff were really attentive and remembered our order really well each morning. The team were also helpful in arranging tours for us :)

Our door didn’t quite close properly and there was a gap in the door which meant it was easy for mosquitoes to get in :( we booked a king room with a pool view but sadly we couldn’t see the pool from where we were, which is a shame.
