Room was spacious (especially for this area), about a 10 min walk from Sanjo station and there's a couple bus routes that go right through the area every so often, so getting around to different activities was easy. The zoo is a short walk, there's several very nice cafes around (which I frequented lol), and you're only maybe a.. 15ish minute walk from the shopping district! I didn't even realize that until my second to last day, but that's a great spot for food and shopping, and is totally walkable from the hotel! If you're lucky with the timing, you can even snag the bus which stops right outside the hotel to take you that way s couple stops and save a little walking. I definitely appreciated the laundry/drying system, as well as the detailed instructions on how to use it. A lot of places you have to hang-dry laundry which is obviously WAY slower. Check-in staff was quick and friendly, although I should mention that for this specific room type I reserved, it apparently indicates to the staff that 3 people will be arriving. So they made preparations for 3, and were a bit confused when I showed up alone, but they sorted it out and got me situated! I also appreciated that they did a one-time turndown for my room and made it basically just like new during my stay!

I stayed in room 101 specifically, so I'm not sure how true this is of other rooms, but the road noise is pretty severe. I'm not an especially light sleeper, and even I was woken up once or twice from heavy vehicles passing basically right at the level with the window, maybe 10ft away. I still very much enjoyed my stay, but that's one big detail I'd like to point out because it could be extremely problematic for light sleepers. It's possible that the rooms above ground might be better insulated from the road noise. One other minor thing: I'd have loved an electric kettle for my tea ☺️

Our room had a view of a graveyard. We didn’t mind- kept windows closed at night to stop ghosts getting it🤣🤣 A little far from main restaurant area.

First of all, I really appreciated the luggage transfer from the guest center near Kyoto Station — super convenient! The location of the accommodation was excellent. I don’t think we even used the metro during our entire stay :) You can walk to the city center. There's a beautiful temple just across the street, and nearby there's a charming little street with various shops — we even bought a beautiful knife there. The staff at the reception were amazing — very helpful and always ready to assist. The rooms were well equipped, standard hotel-style rooms. Just a heads-up: if you have more than one suitcase, the space gets a bit tight to move around :D

Beautiful and fun place to stay. I stayed for three months as a student. The hotel managers and staff were all extremely kind, especially Thiet and Mark. They helped me find restaurants and gave local recommendations for when my friends came to visit, and they also provided anything that I requested for the room (iron, clothing rack, etc.). I will stay again here.

The room when I first entered (first day) had a body odor scent, and it continued sometimes throughout the trip. Other friends of mine also had a similar issue - it could be that on cleaning day, the humidity travels and seeps through the walls. But it was rectified as I continually opened windows and put on the air conditioning.

Our room was very well-equipped and the beds were very comfortable. We slept really well. We also greatly appreciated having our own washing machine to do the laundry. Not only that, the bathroom is properly set up to dry washed clothes, unlike most hotel rooms. You can set the bathroom ventilator to "dry", which will help speed up the process. It's located within a fair walking distance from Gion and spots like Yasaka Shrine, Ninenzaka, and Sannenzaka. For places further away, there are bus stops and a subway station in walking distance. There are also plenty of amenities near the hotel if you want to grab breakfast in the morning, like a Family Mart and McDonald's. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. We were able to store our luggage at the hotel after check-out, which let us explore more places before catching our train.

Be aware that this hotel is located quite far away from Kyoto Station - walking will take nearly an hour. We arrived by train during peak hour and decided to take a taxi, as large pieces of luggage aren't allowed on Kyoto buses and navigating through the congestion on public transport seemed daunting.

Great location across the street from a shrine, and next to two bus stops! You can easily walk to the Gion District or the Heian Shrine if you want to. Room was spacious compared to most Japanese hotels, and the kitchenette was a bonus. Great place if you plan on staying for 3 or more nights.

There is no luggage delivery here, so you will have to plan accordingly. You can drop off your luggage at their guest facility near Kyoto Station, but you will have to go to the nearby FamilyMart to ship it to your next hotel (warning, they will not help you fill it out!).

Staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was great, restaurants and great shops round the corner, 15 min walk to Gion sites and shopping, 10 mins walk to Heian Shrine in which the gardens were uncrowded and enjoyable, and busline right outside! The room was comfortable, spacious enough for one, convenient to have the kitchenette. My room didn't have the sofa set up as pictured, so there must be larger rooms. There was the temple behind which did announce early morning services with a drum, so if you're a light sleeper bring earplugs. And there was a graveyard you could see from the window but this is such a beautiful and interesting part of the culture that it didn't bother me. A great value for the location and comfortable room. I would def stay again!

The bathroom floor was sticky so I gave it a clean and there was a slight smell to the toilet

I LOVED my stay in this hotel. The room was big and comfortable. Staff was nice and helpful when I needed a help for a health issue. The location is perfect for exploring Kyoto with a bus stop just in front of the hotel. If I had to come back in Kyoto (and I hope to come back soon) I would come back in this hotel! Highly recommended!

Our room was facing a pretty busy street, but the windows are pretty well noise insulated, so we could have a great sleep. The other room was facing a cemetery, which was an interesting experience-we didn`t bother at all. The rooms are very clean, they are cleaned every three days, which is ok. The apartment is 2 minutes away from the nearest bus station and 5 minutes from the subway. Convenience stores are nearby + some restaurants and McDonalds, main Gion attractions are 15 minutes away (on foot). We had a great time at Stay Sakura Gion North and would absolutelly reccomend it for a budget friendly vacation in Kyoto.

The rooms are not big, but it is normal for Japan. We were four in one room and three in the other and it was difficult to open the suitcases. However, we were around every day all day and didn`t bother about that.

The room was about average size for Japan (i.e. small), but well laid out with everything we needed. Washing machine / dryer combo was great, kitchenette facilities were basic but more than adequate, and the beds were firm. Can't say it'd be perfect to be locked into for a week solid, but as a base it's great. An easy walk (2 minutes) to the Tozai Metro line, and with the main city buses stopping at the front door, anywhere in Kyoto's close. There are four minimarts within 5 minutes walk, as are eateries, and the main hub of Gion tourist area's only 700 metres south of the hotel. It's an apartment style hotel, so room cleaning and replenishment is every four days, but that's no real issue as the font desk can refill anything you need.

Front desk staff rotate seemingly at random; they're all nice and helpful, all with varying degrees of English, but it can be disconcerting. Note also that beyong very basic information they will not / cannot help you with things you may expect from other hotels (like getting a taxi, information on attractions, receiving tickets or forwarding luggage).
