Our family of 5 loved Sakara. Based in a lovely area of Kyoto. Yuko is very knowledgeable and helped us with all our queries. The rooms are great and my family loved the tree in the room. The hotel is very conveniently located next to the train station and many of the main routes to all the sites. We stayed for the Gion festival Matsuri festival and we were within easy walking distance to experience this without being too overwhelmed by the festivities. The main shopping precinct is lovely

It might be tricky to find the first time as it is located on a pedestrian street. You will be fine if you have google maps or a network to locate the hotel.

Staff was very pleasent and helpfull, they give us some tips and recomendations. We came before our check in time and they let us leave our suitcases in the lobby so we can walk around Kyoto without bags. The also helped us with filling out the forms and shipping the suitcases from their accomondation to another one in Hakone so we didn't have to drag bags around. :) The accommondation is in a quite and beautiful alley. Almost all major attractions are accessible by foot so you can beat the crowd and be alone if you are able to get up before first trains start arriving ;)

We stayed in the Hinoki suite of the Sakara Inn. It was incredibly spacious, comfortable, and Yuko was very helpful in getting us situated and oriented. We walked an average of 8 miles per day while in Kyoto with the Sakara being a great home base for walks exploring Central Kyoto, Nishiki, Gion, Higashiyama, and more! The train station and bus stop are effectively right next door and makes it easy to travel farther out. There is plenty of food around, including various cafes, izakaya, and a terrific French bakery: Le Bac a Sable. The room was well equipped, with a stove, fridge, toaster, tea kettle, cutlery and the like. The Hinoki suite is perfect for families as it has a loft with an additional bed and sleeping mat. The bed was very comfortable and nights were quiet. Overall, not only was Sakara convenient but also very homely and gave a great vibe to the whole stay. We plan to bring our whole family back next time! Book it, you won't regret it!

GREAT authentic style hotel. Only 4 rooms, Airbnb style. Host was extremely friendly, gave us a lot of recommendations and followed up if we needed anything. Includes a family room for guests with low table and games available. On a quiet street with shops and restaurants around the corner from train station. An amazing French bakery around the corner (cash only)

The only (small) negative was that I didn't realize it was more of an air bnb style where cleaning and fresh linen was not provided. I didn't mind it at all, because we were only there 3 days, but just a note that I didn't see that in the description.

The location was perfect. A gorgeous, short walk thru Gion to the main strip. The most beautiful stream just out the back. Bus to/fr Kyoto station, 20 mins, comfortable. Accommodation itself is awesome. No complaints at all. Excellent value for money. Host is super nice and helpful, with info re the local area. I was worried after booking due to lack of recent reviews, but I actually think its bc they want to keep the place a secret!! We stayed in the double story apt with the tree in it.

Loved the functional little kitchen and location, walkable distance to everything! Close to a number of great shops, grocery/convenience stores and restaurants. Bathtub was a plus too, great after a long day. Hosts had good advice for us on the area

There's no wifi access in the washroom for some reason, stairs to the loft are a little rickety and the mini fridge freezer didn't work very well (either our ice cream melted or our vegetables froze).

The room was spacious, stylishly furnished and well-appointed. Both hosts were extremely hospitable and helpful, for example giving invaluable recommendations. In the room we had a cooker, microwave, kettle and even a washing machine! The area around the hotel is too beautifool, with multiple amazing places within walking distance.. I am glad we chose this hotel.

Nothing, it was perfect.

Great location to explore Kyoto. Very easy to get around and close to restaurants and bars. We stayed in the ‘Ninja’ room which is a loft style, so be prepared to climb the ladder to get to bed! The room itself is very comfortable, and has all the amenities you need.

You can hear others in the hotel, and our room was a little dusty.

Quirky room in a well positioned accommodation run by lovely people.

There was nothing we didn’t like. My husband missed having a heated toilet seat 🤣. We had some trouble with the washing machine but I’m confident the owners will address that.

We liked Sakara so much, we planned a trip back to Kyoto and stayed again! Absolutely beautiful area. Yuko was so helpful and recommended some excellent places to get breakfast in the neighbourhood. Super comfy bed, my partner has back issues and we both slept like babies.
