This hotel is located in a beautiful old building in the heart of Besançon's old town. The rooms are tastefully decorated, although our room looked a little worn due to the worn wallpaper. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was exceptionally large and had natural light. We were accommodated in an annexe and unfortunately there was no lift to the second floor. The breakfast buffet offered typical French ingredients as well as continental products. The picturesque old town and great restaurants are within easy walking distance, and a walk along the river bend offers many beautiful views and backdrops. We will gladly come back again.

all in all i don't want to complain at this point.

The kindness of the staff at the reception. They were very helpful. The bedding was really good and the bathroom, despite the fact that it was small was good. The fact that there was a safety box.

The room was too dark. I didn’t like the carpet which seemed from an old age and dark too, which made the room even darker. There was a coffee machine, and one tea bag. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to use it as there was no kettle. A small fridge would have been useful, in order to have had the bottle of water fresh and not warm

The secure parking behind electric gates for the motor bike. The pleasant staff on reception who provided us with a city map. A lift to all floors. Guest seating areas. Comfortable room and bed with view over the courtyard, hot shower, quiet air conditioning. Easy to walk into the old town and upwards to the citadel. Water fountain in reception. The refurbished vaulted stone walled breakfast room which was in the basement. Good breakfast selection to choose from, hot and cold.

We were hiking the Via Francigena and chose here to stay for two nights and have a rest day. A very nice hotel that is reasonably close to the main attractions, restaurants, etc. of Besancon. Our room overlooked the courtyard and was very quiet. A very goog place to relax after days of hard hiking.

If you're hiking the Via Francigena, take transportation to the Chappel du Bois or you'll find yourself with a very long and steep hike up to it. The receptionist insisted there were no buses to it. There were. If nothing else, take a taxi because there's nothing to be gained by hiking to it.

Great central location with helpful and friendly staff. The bed was very comfortable and there is secure parking on site.

We stayed in room 112 in the Pavilion annexe adjacent to the entrance gates. The room had a very small window as was very dark inside (not helped by the dark decor). I also found that the fixture to hang ones clothes in (it housed the safe as well) was too close to the bed as I was constantly bumping into it. I suspect the very comfortable bed was placed centrally in the room before this additional feature was added. Possibly not an issue if your smaller but for this of us 6ft plus and 100kg it felt cramped.

Best Western Citadelle is situated in Besançon's old centre, pretty much at the foot of the citadelle. It is the perfect place to leave the car and visit the town by foot. This is a 3-star hotel at its best. Friendly, helpful staff. Comfy room. Fantastic breakfast! They even cattered for my husband 's dairy intolerance better than in the 4-star hotels we stayed in!

Pity the view from the room was over the car park!

Staff on reception were lovely. Very helpful in assisting us with all our questions. The rooms were spotless and beds comfortable. Parking at property was fully booked but there was an easy parking option around the corner which was very close to the hotel which was free from 7pm until 9am. There was a little shop 20m from the hotel entrance which was very convenient. It was a short walking distance to the centre of the village. Breakfast was good not a lot of options but typical for France.

Minibar in room would have been helpful for cold water. Lights in room were limited but I guess that is ok when you are staying in a renovated Olle building

Great location under the Citadel on the edge of the town. Very easy access into their car park, albeit the spaces are tight for a large car. Very easy walking distance to all the main sights and all the many local restaurants in the town. No bar/restaurant there but they do an excellent buffet breakfast. All very friendly helpful staff have stayed before and would happily stay again.

The rooms are dark and even the breakfast room has low lighting.

Located near restaurants-but French food!! Breakfast was good and staff polite & helpful.

Parking. Is limited and expensive and the staff are obviously told to cram as many cars in as possible. So much so that I couldn’t get into one door of my vehicle to retrieve bags. I moved the car myself to enable access to be gained. Should be adequate marked parking spaces

The location is very nice. Very close to the city center. Moreover, Besançon is a very historic city you can reach each historic places by walking. Breakfast is nice. Classic French croissants and traditional French cheese. The ladies in the reception are very kind and helpful. Thanks to each of them.

The lightening in the room I can say is not enough sufficient. A little bit more lightening would be nice.
