For an 18-bed dorm room, the capsule-style beds made for an incredibly comfortable sleep, with the curtains able to shut out the light of the room and the pillows being pretty comfortable. The shower & toilet facilities were also incredibly well kept & clean throughout, the showers being some of the better ones I've had in hostels in Europe. Location is also decently good for walking throughout, being close to the city centre and attractions, and the vibes of the place are great, both IF you want to party or just prefer to sleep in, as the rooms are pretty quiet and block out outside noise pretty well.

Accessibility is a problem specifically for the dorm beds, especially if you end up in an upper bunk. There's a railing at the edge of the bed, which combined with the capsule-style bed, make it INCREDIBLY hard to squeeze into and out of an upper bunk bed. Some of the dorm rooms are also up a flight of stairs, so take note when booking. Also do look out for safety in general, as though lockers were provided, someone did have their money stolen in my room, so be careful here (as with all massive hostel rooms tbf). Aside from the restaurant/bar, note that common spaces aren't that spacious, especially for dining/cooking your own food, with a pretty small kitchen/dining area.

All our expectations were exceeded during our stay. We arrived on a scorching 39-degree day and were absolutely delighted to step into a beautifully air-conditioned room, and the same goes for the cool, comfortable lobby and bar area. Although the restaurant was closed, there were plenty of great dining options just a short walk away. What really stood out to us was how practical, clean, and functional the room was. The design had a minimalist, backpacker-style vibe, but done in a smart, purpose-built way that felt fresh and intentional. We were super happy with everything including the view from our room—an excellent stay all around!

Comfy tunnel style bunks providing excellent privacy, with curtains, a small light and power point. Nice clean pillow, bedding and linen. The bathrooms are modern and clean, really nice. The rooms have good ventilation, windows and air condition units. Restaurant was lovely and staff were super helpful and kind. Great location if you don't mind a small hill, about 1km to the magnificent Horse Fountain.

The kitchen and fridge need cleaning more carefully / often. The sinks are often blocked and the fridge is very smelly. Also be aware many of the lockers don't actually lock or are easy to tamper with, this would be an easy fix for the hostel and make a huge difference to people's sense of security.

I loved my stay here! The breakfast was definitely a highlight, and the pod-style beds were a great touch — they gave a real sense of privacy and comfort. The location is fantastic, with plenty of lovely cafes, restaurants, and bars all within walking distance. I also really enjoyed the food at the hotel restaurant — everything was delicious. Highly recommend!

There weren’t many organised events or social activities for hostel-goers, so if you’re a solo traveller hoping to meet people, it might be a bit harder — but definitely not impossible! Still, I had a great time overall and would happily stay again.

Pilo was a great place to get a good night’s sleep—I really can’t complain! I stayed in the 18-bed dorm and was a bit unsure at first being a solo female traveler, but it turned out to be clean, comfortable, and surprisingly quiet at night. Overall I felt very safe in Lyon! The capsule-style beds and lockers gave it a cool, modern feel. Just a tip: make your bed when you check in so you don’t have to do it later in the evening! The lobby was a lovely space to relax—nicely designed and cozy. They also offered a discount on drinks for guests, which was a nice touch. Online check-in was super convenient, and check-out was easy—just dropped off the key at the front desk. No queue for the bathrooms in the morning either and again they were very clean. Do keep in mind it’s a bit of a walk uphill to get there, and you’ll want to bring your own lock for the locker and a towel. Overall, a stylish, well-run place that's great for budget travelers!

When I checked in, I got hit with around a €1 euro tourist tax per night, not a big deal just to be aware.

I had a pleasant stay at this globally standardized dormitory-style accommodation. The facility is clean, well-maintained, and equipped with modern amenities, including a user-friendly washer and dryer — a small but meaningful convenience for longer stays. The setup feels more like a capsule hotel than a traditional dormitory. The view from the room was unexpectedly beautiful, adding a touch of serenity to the overall experience. I found everything to be well organized and had no particular complaints during my stay. Highly recommended for independent travelers seeking functionality, cleanliness, and quiet comfort. The capsule housing concept proposed by Kisho Kurokawa in the 1960s — a bold vision rooted in the Metabolist movement — has quietly found its way to Lyon, 65 years later. Transcending time and borders, the modular ideal continues to evolve, resonating in new urban forms around the world.

A few practical tips for travelers One point worth noting for future guests: the hostel is located on a slope, so if you’re arriving with heavy luggage, I recommend using the subway(Croix-Rousse station) rather than the bus for a smoother check-in experience.

The property is fairly new, clean, with lots of common spaces. The location is quite good- easy walking to the centre or croix rousse, not overly touristic. My room was efficient. Checkin agent (young gentleman) was very nice and helpful.

There was no housekeeping during 4 nights of my stay, particularly fresh towels. The restaurant was also closed for my stay. The breakfast was kind of sad- also they had a sign for espresso drinks ‘included’ but when asked was told it’s an ‘old sign’, in the typical French manner.

Friendly, clean rooms and facilities, perfect for a short stay bar area was a nice vibe Just a minutes walk away is a nice patisserie if you are looking for cappuccino and croissant 😍

It's not a dislike - bed was comfortable - you need to be a bit flexible to crawl in - but it was comfortable and a good night's sleep It's uphill and a bit of a walk from the train/bus stations BUT I got to explore parts of Lyon I might not have otherwise bothered with - sometimes the cute back streets are the most instagrammable and best vibes - away from the international stores of every European city 🤷 Notre dame is a must see

The staff were lovely, the whole place was clean, the wi-fi was good, and I appreciated the curtains around the beds which I've only seen in Asia before. There was a socket by the bed and enough room to store my backpack beside it. I was in Lyon for a concert and it was easy to take the metro then a tram to the LDLC Arena. The hostel staff offered to print out my ticket, which was nice. Also easy to get there from the airport. If you want to avoid climbing the hill every time you go back to the hostel, take the metro to Croix-Rousse and walk downhill from there. There's a nice view over Lyon on the way.

Simple rooms with mordern aesthetic, all the necessary things supplied (like shampoo, shower gel, handwash, towels...). The bar-restaurant was very nice, and the food and drinks quite tasty. The location is good as there are a lot of bars, cafes, restaurants around and it's a nice walk to the city centre. The metro and bus stop is also nearby. The staff was friendly and cheerful. Although I didn't use it, it was nice to know there was a kitchen and laundry room available.

There is nothing I didn't like as such. I would appreciate a kettle and/or a coffee machine in the room. I think it's also worth keeping in mind that the way to the hotel is quite uphill, which might be an issue for people with limited mobility.
