We stayed at this hotel while traveling from Biarritz to Paris and were impressed by the recent renovations and beautiful design. We particularly enjoyed the park and spa area, and the staff were very helpful throughout our stay. The wine cellar was a highlight as well, featuring a knowledgeable sommelier who enhanced our experience.

However, we did encounter a significant issue. The hotel is quite remote, so be prepared to drive to find dining options if you’re unable to secure a table at the hotel restaurant. Unfortunately, this happened to us. Despite booking our room just one day prior, we received a message only five hours before our arrival indicating that the restaurant was fully booked and that we should consider dining elsewhere. This was quite disappointing. In my experience, I believe that a five-star hotel should prioritize accommodating all guests' dining needs, and it felt as though the management fell short in this regard.

Outstanding property & spa facilities, easy access, reception & most service staff excellent, dinner excellent.

One very rude breakfast attendant who all but scolded me for asking if I could take some fruit from the buffet before he cleared it, very noisy banging & crashing while cleaning up breakfast buffet around us, making a disappointing end to what was otherwise an excellent visit. A few people missed being able to get items from the buffet despite attending only a few moments after its closing time. A simple 5 min advice to breakfast guests that the buffet was about to close would be a great improvement to the experience.

This was easily the best hotel we have ever stayed in... we stayed for one night after visiting St. Emillion and having a vineyard tour at Chateau de Candale. The surroundings are stunning, and the hotel luxury is clear to see. It has strong 5 star quality, and we would definitely return. The welcome was friendly and professional. The food was absolutely delightful, as was the wine. The food is a la carte, but there are a few different menus depending on the time of your visitWe visited the spa and thoroughly enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere on a Friday morning. To top off a fantastic trip we then caught a taxi from the hotel to the town centre. The card machine was not working, and the taxi driver, rather than want to take us to a cash point for the fare, she offered the taxi ride for free. We were totally taken back by this as we knew this would never happen back in our local area in the UK!!! We insisted that we went to the Cash Point as the gesture was so kind and we wanted to pay. The area is 5 star, the hotel is 5 star and so is the friendly service. Thanks so much, we will return.

The room was good size with beautiful views of the vineyards. We had a corner room which was perfect and very private. The sunsets/sunrises from our terrace were spectacular. The staff were extremely nice and attentive. Everyone spoke English and didn’t make you feel bad for not speaking French. The hotel is very close to the beautiful town of San Emilion. We enjoyed many vineyard walks with our dogs and the proximity to town. The hotel is extremely pet friendly. The breakfast was good and we enjoyed delicious scrambled eggs. They were creamy and fluffy, just perfect! We had dinner at the restaurant once during our stay and we were very pleased with the service and food quality. Room service was also excellent and we enjoyed the comprehensive wine list. The comfortable spa was a nice surprise and we truly enjoyed the hot tub too. Would love to return during warmer weather to enjoy the pool.

Newly renovated property with exquisite design details and attention to quality. We loved our deluxe room with a view over the vineyard. The spa treatments and facilities were excellent, we wish we had more time to enjoy it all. The breakfast was relaxing with the right amount of options. The baguettes and canele are made on premises, of superior quality to everything we tried from bakeries in various towns. The staff was very attentive and helpful in all ways. Truly a high-end experience.

Our only complaint was that the super lush duvets were a bit too warm for the outdoor temperatures during our visit. Next time we will be sure to ask for a lighter version - the beds and sleeping conditions were excellent otherwise!

The breakfast was superseded The evening set menus were exciting and also superb but only relevant for maximum two meals as set menu based. If you were staying (as we were for 5/6 days) I would encourage the chef to add to the a la carte menu to offer longer term stayers something to book for evening meals. Outside restaurants are wonderful but for the full chill experience, I would have liked to just stay in hotel.

We love the Grand Barrail! The rooms are spacious, well decorated, and comfortable. The staff is professional, welcoming, and go out of their way to make sure you are happy with your room and experience. The restaurant rooms are beautiful, and the food is exceptional. We did not use the Spa services this time around but have in the past and were very pleased. We are looking forward to staying with them in the future. Additionally, the location is ideal for exploring St. Emilion and the surrounding area.

The room was spacious, clean and modern. The outside dining area was spectacular with views of both the beautiful garden and hotel. The dinner at the hotel is not to be missed! We did not dine in the inside dining area which has stunning stain glass windows. The pool is large and beautiful. The breakfast was nice with wide selection. Service was first rate by everyone: check in, dining and everyone else.. This hotel is in great location to visit St. Emilion and wineries. The exterior of the hotel is just stunningly beautiful like many of the stunning chateaux in the area so very pleased to have this unique experience.

There was nothing we did not like about this place!!

It was a beautiful spot with comfortable rooms and great facilities. We were travelling with my mum and at no point did they make us feel awkward because we were an odd number, in fact they made sure she was in a similar room so we could have the dogs next to each other. The pool was lovely and the facilities were stunning. We cycled into St Emilion and had a beautiful picnic next to the vines on the second evening. I will be back.

The property was fantastic, disappointed that we were not able to book dinner for either of our 2 nights there but that was only because the restaurant was fully booked and we missed this because we only booked the accommodation on the day of arrival and didn’t inconvenience us too much as we were meeting friends staying in Saint Emilion a 20 minute taxi ride but we wanted to book the restaurant and invite them to dine with us. It just meant that we ate elsewhere. The prices at the hotel were high but that is the case in the best establishments
