The property is in a secluded location about 2 km from the town of Tonnerre. Peaceful, unique location. The hotel is very unique, including having a collection of vintage motorcycles and an automobile scattered around inside the hotel -- quirky but fun.

The property was sort of deserted when we arrived - no staff or formal reception area. After a few minutes, we found an employee and she showed us to our room, which was very quirky but very comfortable. Very dark, with few lights. Spacious. The biggest challenge is that the common area / restaurant part of the hotel is closed and locked most of the day. It was impossible to find an employee if we needed assistance.

Wonderful! Beautifully renovated, funky deco, the super friendly staff and owners full of tips about the area, the old motorcycles inside the abbaye, the stone pool, the food in the gastronomic menu ( but pricey ) brasserie food was not as good ( slate of cheese and charcuterie of lower quality and pricey ) breakfast delivered to your door in a british style basket was great, great rooms and beds, not to forget Lilou the friendly large St Bernard dog. The bar and cocktails were awsome! We loved it!

It is a unique boutique property ran by the owners with exceptional attention to details. From the Decor of every corner to the welcoming and genuine owner. Alice was so helpful we truly felt home. If you are searching for a place in the Bourgogne area stop looking and start booking. I don’t leave reviews in general but I felt I had to for this amazing property.

L'abbaye is absolutely charming, the surroundings and the small village of Tonnerre are beautiful. We very much appreciated how well this place full of history was being kept and taken care of. Our room exceeded our expectations and the breakfast basket in front of the door was a great idea. The breakfast was one of the nicest we had in France and the fact that you could have a picnic in the terrace and enjoy the view while having breakfast was a nice surprise. All in all, I highly recommended this place and we will definitely come back.

The owners were not expecting us but rallied round and quickly prepared a delicious meal which was most welcome. The property is truly incredible.The conversion from ancient abbey to modern hotel has been carried out with great expertise. In the morning a lovely basket of breakfast items were outside our door. Everyone we met were delightful. We are looking forward to a longer stay in the future.

The hotel which used to be an abbey, along with the decor is beautiful, it’s very original and well thought out, we loved the spacious room and the bathroom! Very luxurious room, comfy bed, facilities and amenities. Breakfast picnic basket was super and they went out of their way when we had a special request. We look forward to coming back in the Summer and enjoying more of the facilities!

We loved everything about L'abbaye Saint Michel. The decor was spectacular, the staff were incredibly friendly, the restaurant was amazing. Our room ( the black one) was enormous, the bed was super comfy and the decorations were wonderful and very eclectic. A rare find

We enjoyed our 3-day stay here. This place is just so cute and serene. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, working around the clock to make everyone comfortable. We also recommend reserving a table for dinner because the food and the cocktails are worth it.

It's not that we didn't like the pool, but the pool is very very small. It's more the size of a big jacuzzi than a pool.

We cannot recommend more highly! The setting above the town is stunning with gorgeous views and so peaceful. The hotel is a gorgeous mix of old and modern twist with beautiful stone floors and a cave like restaurant. The room was large and spacious and we made the most of the stone plunge pool, so relaxing! The food in the restaurant was delicious, particularly the fillet of Charolay beef. I cannot tell you how impressed we were and the value for money!

We picked L'abbaye Saint Michel at the recommendation of a local friend. We had the garden room for 3 nights. The grounds are lovely. The room was comfortable and large. The rooms have been redone and the décor is charming and uplifting. The bed and pillows were comfortable and the staff friendly (and they spoke perfectly adequate English). We delighted in waling the grounds and the rounds around the L'abbaye. We also very much enjoyed the restaurant and bar. Breakfast was srved every day in a basket outside our room and we ate it in the garden and in the little nook area looking into the garden. The breakfast were plentiful and good.

Sadly, it’s a tad run down.
