The room was utterly awesome, full of character to match the hotel’s history and a turret roof over the bed that was so charming. The check-in and check-out staff were so kind and helpful. We didn’t have breakfast but it looked really good. Maybe we will try when we stay again in December because we have already booked a return visit — this time with two family members to show them our lovely discovery!

Honestly, what’s not to like? This is a really wonderful hotel. I’m sure the hotel wasn’t responsible for this, but there was even a gorgeous sunrise from our room’s alcove window to greet us when we woke. Well played, Altstadthotel Messerschmidt!

We had a very pleasant stay at Messerschmidt. Beautiful hotel with the most comfortable bed that I didn’t want to part with! The staff was very friendly at both, the front desk and the breakfast room. We will definitely return!

Only negative is that I’m claustrophobic and don’t take elevators. Therefore I wished that I could use the stairs but they were only accessible through the breakfast room that was closed after 9pm. There is a door that leads outside from the stairwell but it’s not accessible with key or card if you want to enter it.

This is our second visit to Altstadthotel Messerschmitt and we honestly didn’t think it could be better than our stay in September, but it WAS! This time we were with our daughter and my sister-in-law and we were given the most amazing two-level suite at an awesome price. The room was quiet, the furnishings were elegant and the beds were “princess and the pea”-like — without the pea! We decided to treat ourselves to breakfast and found the breakfast room cozy and decorated for Christmas, with all our breakfast favourites plus make-your-own mimosas. A fabulous start to the day!

I don’t think there is any way to improve on our stay at the Messerschmitt. Our visits have been delightful both times and I would unhesitatingly recommend this property to travellers yearning for a touch of romance coupled with convenience, comfort and amazing value!

Exceptional location for all the sights of the city and old town area. The Hotel staff were very friendly and efficient at helping us enjoy the property and the visit to Bamberg. Wonderful wine cellar in the hotel and I was honored to be invited to see the cellar by Flor (spelling ?). The breakfast and the morning staff service was quite good as well. The housekeeping staff did a great job each day and were always responsive to our requests. The quality and the value was top of the list of our many hotel stays during our trip to France and Germany. The hotel has a well respected reputation, even mentioned during the tour of the city, and a important connection to history and several generations of family ownership. We have family visits to Bamberg and will look forward to our future stay at this property.

What a lovely hotel. The website photos do not do it justice. The rooms are large and modern and the bathroom is marble floored. The breakfast buffet was excellent and full of healthy food. The only hot food was scrambled eggs but there was many different hams, smoked salmon, vegetables, fruits and breads. I did not miss greasy bacon and sausage. The breakfast room was a beautiful and bright conservatory with some outdoor tables. Everything was exceptionally clean. The location was great. A five minute walk to the Old Town

There was no fridge in the room. While it was great that the hotel offered water bottles in reception, they were warm. In the summer, it is nice to have the ability to cool drinks in the room.

Spacious, attractive, clean and comfortable room with air conditioning- a great relief when temperatures in Bamberg soared over 30 degrees every day during our stay. The hotel is very well located - walking distance (15-20 minutes) from the train station and an easy delightful stroll to the altstadt’s charming and picturesque highlights. Breakfast was delicious, with an appealing array on offer, set in a pleasant light-filled space.

An extra pillow would have been appreciated. Also, it seemed strange that there was no proper cotton sheet, just what seemed to be a mattress liner (possibly synthetic?), which was not so pleasant to lie on. But, these are small issues. Oherwise, this is a wonderful place to stay.

The staff was outstanding! I always ask for a firm mattress at the time of reservation but nobody bothers to refer to it when I check in. In this Hotel, every receptionist asked me a about the mattress. They were amazing. I asked for a water kettle and it arrived in 2 min. Great place, very spacious room and bathroom and I also loved the breakfast. Highly recommend.

It may be a bit tricky to find it because the name on the board if messerschmitt while booking.com name starts with altstadt. But if you notice the address num 41, walk right in.

It was in the old part of town so everything was in easy walking distance . We explored the old town and the Christmas market. The whole hotel was clean, comfortable and well appointed and the staff were lovely. The breakfast buffet was amazing -a nice addition was Prosecco, perfect to make your own Mimosa. We were sorry to only have one night there.

We liked everything. The taxi driver was a little confused by the name ‘Altstadthotel’ -but we spotted the sign outside ‘Messerschmidt’ and knew we’d found the right place.

Good breakfast, lovely staff and a very pleasant area next to the garden. Hotel location very good, close to the centre and the bus station, taxi rank. Rooms are spacious and light and we had a very quiet spot.

A littledisappointing that the restaurant/bar was closed for our stay and probably till summer. Plenty of places close by, but would've been nice to have a relaxing area in the hotel.

Hotel was full of character. Very close to the old town and the bus station. Room was large and comfortable with excellent bathroom. Staff were always cheerful and helpful. Would definitely stay there again. Breakfast was very good.

WiFi was quite good downstairs but in the room the quality alternated between poor and fair. There were few hot options at breakfast although what was provided was extremely good.
