It's a really unique experience, staying at this castle. The rooms are nice, well furnished and it's all inside the castle, making you feel like a real guest. The views are also incredible, and enjoying it all from the place you're going to stay is definitely worth it. The breakfast was surprisingly good too, even sharing it with a horde of kids on school trips.

It was not easy to find our room. The way the numbering was done didn't really make much sense to us, and there weren't easy directions on any documentation, so we had to rely on our poor German understanding from the thankfully patient personnel to find our place.

Staying in a proper working castle/fortress was special anyway and the room, while modern, had some lovely features such as a high arched ceiling. The location was perfect to visit Bastei and go for scenic walks nearby. Breakfast was fine, buffet style and plentiful. The castle also serves as an international youth hostel so things got lively but I loved the energy the kids brought to the place. Special shoutout to the staff at reception who were very helpful, happy to recommend walks and activities and making us feel welcome.

A very nice place, we really enjoyed staying in an actual castle. Everything was good, a great option for one night after a hike.

There was no wifi in the room (only near the rezeption) and the mobile service also didn't work (I guess because of the thick castle walls). Was not an actual problem for us though 😁

How often do you get a chance to sleep in a castle for this budget? Great stop along the Malerweg! Beds are comfy, showers too.

The food in the restaurant was very very dry, would recommend to eat elsewhere.

Amazing to stay in a proper castle!! It was/is partly a youth hostel and that’s evident in the decor of the rooms. However, it was very comfortable and quiet. Great views across the valley. The lady at reception was super friendly. Easy bus access to Bad Schandau and Bastei. Good breakfast buffet with fresh Brötchen!

Historic place, nicely renovated rooms, possibility to sit inside the castle during the evening hours and nice breakfast. Beautiful spot!

Bathroom doesn’t have a window and smelled a bit funky but ok.

Very unique place in an old fortress.. Simple room, limited facilities and in a remote location. Great views around.

Place not accessible if you have any limitations. Nobody to talk after 5 PM in case you need anything.

The location is on the "Malerweg" and I highly recommend this old, refurbished castle for a comfortable place to stay in. The breakfast was included in the price and it was all you can eat.

the internet didn’t work and there is no mobile coverage. as a solo traveller hiking the route, not having checked in caused some concern.
