Good setting on the edge of Matala, with superb pool and within easy walking distance of beach, village, and many good local restaurants. Bus stop at gate giving services to other locations and beaches. Room modest but quiet and comfortable, with good hot water, fridge, and wifi. Balcony with rural view. Spotless, and staff excellent. Buffet breakfast with good choice of cold and hot items.

For a small family hotel, personally run, it is difficult to fault.

Ideal family-run hotel. Room and bathroom compact but everything fully working including hot water and wifi. Beds comfortable. Excellent housekeeping and cleanliness. Clean and tranquil pool, good pool bar. Good unlimited breakfast with daily variety of items as well as regular ones. 10 minutes walk to Matala with beach and multiple restaurants. Bus stop at entrance giving access to other beaches, villages, and sights, for nominal fares.

Sad to leave. But already booked again for later in the year.

Returning again, feeling at home from the moment of entering the door. Honest, caring family hotel with excellent quality facilities, but no unnecessary frills. Welcome genuinely warm. Rooms adequate, comfortable beds, effective bathrooms with good hot water, perfect wifi. Balcony with plenty of space to sit out. Perfect pool and pool area, nice pool bar with snacks. Easy 10 minute walk to Matala and its many good eating places, and beach. Bus stop at hotel entrance for wider exploration.

How lucky were we to have found this GEM of a hotel in Matala!! Having looked round Matala nothing comes anywhere close to Elea Terra. It oozes Greek charm and the family and their colleagues who run the hotel are the nicest most welcoming people you could wish to meet. Absolutely nothing negative to say about this hotel just lots of positives. Here are the main bits: Cleanliness - the whole place, inside and out is super clean!! Location - steady safe and accessible 10min stroll into town all on the flat. The hotel is set in beautiful well tended grounds of apricot & citrus trees and flowers surrounded by Cretian mountains. The Pool - fabulous sized perfectly maintained pool with sunbeds & brollys and a great bar with fab music! Breakfast - served on the patio, tasty, freshly made and plentiful, with a lot of the produce being sourced very locally!! Warning: if you are looking for a big fat fry up of processed chemically induced food - this is NOT the breakfast for you!! Rooms - can only comment on our room which was fab, clean and comfortable. Yes, we had to throw toilet paper in the bin and the showers are not probably the conventional European type but hey, your in Greece! Get over it and enjoy! It’s no hardship!! It’s part of the Greek charm!! The Beds & Pillows - absolute 5* standard - Amazing, seriously!! Thank You so much to Maria, Vasiliki, George, Yannis and everyone else for being so professional, so friendly and for making our trip to Matala and Elea Terra so special! We will be back!!

Perfect location- lovely garden and views. Very peaceful but a short walk from the centre. Friendly welcoming staff. Excellent breakfast. Great pool and seating areas. Comfortable room- very clean- fridge very useful and hairdryer. Bus stop outside.

Maria has developed the perfect family-run hotel for the friendly resort of Matala. Staff committed, friendly, efficient, and 24 hour front desk. Bedroom compact, recently refurbished, comfortable bed, constant hot water, chilled fridge, perfect balcony view. All you can eat breakfast - plenty of choice including at least one new item every day (for 12 days!). Lovely pool with plenty of sun loungers and shaded areas. Great pool bar, with food service all day (not evening). Easy 10 minute walk to Matala with its square, shops, beach, and many excellent restaurants (music somewhere most evenings). Bus stop by hotel entrance, giving access to Heraklion, and to other nearby resorts; also plenty of pleasant local walking. (Note, in line with most Greek hotels, toiletries and hospitality tray are not provided.) Look no further.

The location was easily walkable to the beach and all the restaurants, shops located there. It had a lovely pool and pool bar. We enjoyed a number of cocktails prepared with finesse. Maria, who I believe was the owner of the hotel, was super funny and helpful. Her restaurant recommendations were right on. We had moved to this hotel after a poor experience at another hotel down the road. This hotel was such a contrast in hospitality. I would totally recommend it and would not hesitate to return.

We really liked the location. Very near to Matala beach and amenities. The hotel have a lovely mediterranean garden with a nice size pool. Perfect for family relax and fun. Also a nice spot to have a snack/lunch during the day, thanks to the lovely staff at the bar.
