Amazing place .. from the moment you get there you realise it’s a special place. We had a room for 3 that overlooked the lake.. literally steps away. The lake is beautiful and serene and there was nothing more lovely than sitting at the end of the dock watching the sun rise with Lola, the resident black lab. You can take the kayaks out or swim in the lake. There are plenty of hammocks dotted around to enjoy the tranquility and drink a cold bottle of Gallo, the local beer. It’s half board and the food is great. It’s definitely a little piece of paradise. We combined 2 nights here before staying in Tikal park and it worked really well.

An excellent place to stay! to staff is very friendly and hospitable. the lake facilities are fun and very welcoming. The food prepared in the kitchen is good, but the breakfast and dinner served are of fixed menus, which might not fit everybody. they did allow us to change a bit of the menu for the kids, so that solved the problem with my very-picky-eating children :)

The rooms are a bit basic (although not very different from most other places we stayed in Guatemala), but all in all very functional, clean and accommodating.

A stunning lakeside retreat nestled among the trees, this hotel perfectly balances luxury and relaxation. Our deluxe room was spacious, spotless, and featured super-comfy beds, a large private balcony, and an outdoor shower and bath. The beautifully designed grounds create a peaceful atmosphere, and the lake is perfect for swimming. The food was plentiful and delicious, and Eduardo and his team provided attentive yet unobtrusive service. Booking tours through the hotel was seamless. Highly recommend!

It is a luxury eco retreat rather than the backpacker's crash pad I expected. Gorgeous modern rooms right on the vast veranda overlooking the lake. The photos don't do it justice. The staff is fabulous. Set meals are good; vegetarian friendly. The hotel handled my ground transportation and tour of Tikal. Very pleased with our guide.

Not in El Remante. Once you're here, you stay. The hotel's driver slept through our 5:15 am Christmas morning ride to the airport and picked us up 30 minutes late -- other staff members had to phone him to wake him up.

Really tranquil spot in El Remate. Very well constructed and designed with health and leisure in mind. Staffs were very nice. Had a family room which was large with nice features. We were dropped off by a shuttle in El Remate by the main road; about a 2 mile walk to the hotel or you could likely take a tuk tuk.

Dinner was included but we really didn’t like the food- very plain “banquet” style food. We ordered lunch from the menu and was much better food. The patio of our family room was level with the sidewalk, so our patio with a jet tub and seating area was as not at all private. Couldn’t really enjoy it like you would think; would’ve been better on the 2nd story.

All the food from the restaurant was delicious! The rooms were spacious. The property had many different spaces for relaxing and lounging. We loved the coffee on the patio every morning and the staff was outstanding! We hired Luis for guiding us in Tikal and he was a superb birder! My husband is a birder and he was the perfect match for us! We hired him to guide us on 2 additional trips while we were there. So glad the hotel connected us with him. Thanks so much!

My only complaint (it’s just personal) is the beds were too firm. The bedding extra were lovely, just too firm for my back

1. The location right on the lake, with clean water and excellent swimming. We swam every day of our stay. 2. The Adirondack-in-the-Tropics great camp feel, especially the gorgeous dining hall, the little library and the open air lounges. 3. The delicious meals served on the half-board rate, breakfast and dinner. A tremendous value for money. 4. The easy driving to Tikal and Yaxha parks, and the free overnight parking.

The howler monkeys could be loud and startling. But the jungle is their home.

Our family of five with three young kids stayed 6 nights at Gringo Perdido and had an excellent time. The hotel has an incredible lakeside setting, with plenty of activities to keep families occupied (swimming, kayaking, relaxing, visits to archeological sites, visits to Flores, short hikes etc...). Overall the hotel is very family friendly, with lots of things for kids to do, and plenty of other families around. The food was excellent and healthy (both set meals at lunch and dinner, and food on the menus available throughout the day). Bar was well stocked, and cocktails were very tasty. Mood was wholesome and relaxing. Not at all rowdy, the kind of place where you head to bed early and wake up refreshed for the following day.

Very little. If they wanted to improve they could have more toys for kids, and board games for guests to use. But these are really differences at the margin.

It is incredibly convenient that the dinner and breakfast are included. The piers and the location are marvelous. They also provide the paddle boards and floats that you can use to get to the middle of the lake. We really enjoyed watching the sunset from the water. Corn hole and pull up bars by the water were very nice. They were able to arrange the transportation at 5 am to the airport as well, which was really helpful.

Please add table tennis and bathe Lola!

Like a great Adirondack camp from the late 19th/early 20th century, the kind the Rockefellers and Whitneys built. But transported to Guatemala. The lakefront is fabulous, the common areas are impressive. We were on “half-board”. Both breakfasts and dinners were excellent; stayed 5 nights, never had the same meal twice. Staff was cheerful, courteous, helpful. Lola was the prefect hostess.

The property is isolated enough that most nights we heard nothing much, except for the howler monkeys at dusk and dawn. One night there was throbbing music which came from across the water, a quinceañera maybe. It went on til 1. But otherwise, the nighttime silence was total.
