This property was so relaxing, I loved the layout and the atmosphere. It is right in front of the beach nestled in his own little area. You get the best of Roatan without a lot of tourists on the beach. The sunsets here are so beautiful. The owners and the staff were extremely friendly. They made sure we had what we needed, organized transportation and made sure we were well fed. There is an in house restaurant which is ideal if you plan on just lounging and sitting at the beach front your entire stay! They even have snorkeling gear and floaties, you can go into the water and see beautiful fish and sea creatures. I travel quite a bit and I was impressed, I could definitely see myself returning to Puerta Azul to unplug and reset.
Overall everything was great! My friend and I were bitten a lot by sand flies but this is nothing to do with the property, just a word of advice to bring lots of mosquito repellent or something to relieve the itching from the bites. If you plan on go around town it might be worth renting a car if you would like the ease of moving around.

Very clean and updated rooms (bungalows). Beach right on property. Staff very helpful with recommendations and taking care of things to make our stay even more enjoyable. Overall, just a great experience. They provide an awesome local breakfast every morning. We really liked the "Chefs Choice" approach that is taken. Plenty of food with fruit and a fun to see what they would treat us to each morning.
Our rooms didn't have a lockbox in them. We had to carry a lot of cash so it was a bit unsettling to not be able to lock it up and not worry about it. I understand lockboxes have been ordered for our room, but just hadn't arrived (newly built/renovated rooms) so it may no longer be an issue.

Puerta Azul was everything it promised to be and more. Each morning we enjoyed delicious coffee on the beach followed by a good breakfast on the patio. We enjoyed the intimacy of the outdoor dining area where we met many of the other guests and learned about their Roatan adventures. Our bungalow was clean, well appointed, comfortable and only about 30 steps from the beautiful beach. The snorkeling was among the best in the western Caribbean and so easy to access from the end of the dock. We are already looking at planning a return visit to Puerta Azul!

The owners and staff were excellent - courteous, very friendly, and helpful. The staff happily contacted establishments we were interested in to confirm that they were open and what their hours were. The arranged needed taxis. The property was beautifully landscaped. The cabins were well designed and beautifully furnished. Each cabin had an outdoor shower to rinse the sand off. The beach was groomed each morning. There was a long dock that you could swim off of.

We lived in Casitas, which were very simple and beautiful. The beds were very comfortable, the air conditioning was working without any problem. The location is perfect and very quiet. The staff were very helpful, friendly and kind. We had breakfasts every day and they were very delicious. We really enjoyed our time there, it is a beautiful place.

All rooms very close to the beach. Snorkeling was nice off the end of the dock. Day trips available for even better snorkeling. Food was tasty and the staff was super friendly. Room clean, comfortable, showers large with ample hot water.
Not really amenable for long walk on the beach, but the area in front of the property is nice. Not much within walking distance, so expect to cab to places. The pillows were a bit hard (nitpicking) but the bed was comfortable.

Puerta Azul, it's a lovely place to stay in Roatan! I would not want to stay anywhere else. Our cottage/house was perfect, clean, stylish, and beautiful! The main house and the rest of the cottages were surrounded by unique plants and palm trees that gave plenty of privacy. The windows have screens, so bugs and mosquitoes were never a problem. Mosquitoes weren't a huge issue anyway. Some sand flies, but that is common across the whole Island. We were greeted with delicious coffee and an even more delightful breakfast every morning! I didn't know you could serve eggs in so many ways! The ingredients were fresh and of fantastic quality. The beach was located a few steps away from our house, with fantastic access to the reef. Reef, including Spooky Channel, is worth swimming too! We could see beautiful tropical fish. Once, we saw an eagle ray off the dock. There are hammocks at the end of the extended deck that we enjoyed a lot as well. Additionally, you can grab a kayak and explore the shoreline. Antony Key's is a few paddles away, from where you can see the dolphins kept in captivity. Since we wanted to visit many other places on the Island, we rented a car and were glad about it. I highly recommend doing it, because it allows you to explore more local foods and scenery. However, whenever we came back from West End, West Bay or other places, we were grateful for the peaceful and quiet Puerta Azul place. To sum up, I recommend staying at Puerta Azul. Talia, Augusta and the rest of the wonderful crew will do everything to make your stay unforgettable. Thank you for all your support!
Some renovations were going on during the day beside our beach, which was a bit loud. However, that is a temporary thing; and it was no one's fault.

This place was phenomenal. As soon as you walked in, it felt like you entered the jungle (filled with tropical plants, mango trees) via a sandy path that led you to the water. The esthetic of the entire place was green and serene. Sandy Bay is a bit more quiet than West End/ West Bay. At night time, you can walk to the dock and point out constellations clearly. The sunset is breathtaking. There are kayaks also provided by the hotel which you can use to explore the reefs nearby via snorkeling. Snorkeling gear can also be rented. The staff were so warm, bright and empathetic in their communication. Their food was a delicious as well. Our first day I had the grilled fish and it was superb. I was obsessed with the giant monstera plants in the lobby/ dining area and the many hummingbirds that stopped by for their morning nectar in the flowering plants. One logistical consideration---if you wish to explore other parts of the island during your stay, rent a car and explore as this is not walking distance from WE/WB. If you have a shorter stay, the staff have a shortlist of taxi drivers who work with the hotel to drive you around. We plan to return again as it fit perfectly with our idea of a vacation :)

This is a magical place. Beautiful flowers and beach. It is a quieter place to stay and not a very large resort so it felt very casual and friendly. We chatted with other guests but also had our space. We stayed in one of the bungalows, which we liked a lot. We didn't see in the garden cabins, but the bungalows are closer to the beach, and I'd choose that again. It's a little odd to not have a bathroom door, again something we knew. We were two good friends travelling so we would just tell each other when we needed alone time in the cottage to alleviate some embarrassment. Loved that there were free kayaks and paddle boards to use. There's a long pier and hammocks on the end that were never busy - great spot to read, hang out, look at the stars, peer into the water at night to see the "fire flies" in the water -- some kind of glowing plankton that was super cool. The best part is the location on the reef. We were there to snorkel and just couldn't have been easier to go right off the dock, over and over again. We also did a 4 hour snorkel excursion and that was awesome. Both for the beautiful spots but also the boat ride and care and attention we were given. Fresh fruit after being in the salt water is so wonderful! Talia and staff were helpful and professional and friendly and never intrusive. Rose is the chef and people should come from all around the island to eat dinner here - it was so very good. We visited West Bay and West End and were glad to not be staying at either. The beach has lots of people selling things and was crowded at West Bay. West End is a great spot to go to eat, but was glad to retreat to Puerta Azul.
There's no pool, but we knew that and didn't care. But if that matters to you...

We really liked the cabins and our room. We had 3 different breakfasts for each day of our stay and they were all good. We also has two dinners in the hotel restaurant which were great. We really liked the dock and the overall relaxing feeling of the hotel.
You can't walk right into the water from the beach to swim since there is alot of sea grass. For swimming you need to go all the way to the end of the dock. The rooms don't always have hair dryer.
