Lovely hostel, very nice and helpful staff, common area was nice, clean, had guides to Hong Kong and other books. Good location, not even 5 min walk to MRT, then 3 stops to the centre. Showers were nice too, better to stay in a mix dorm rather than a girls one as in the female one the bathroom is connected to the room itself, which creates a lot of noise especially at night when people are showering. Beds are spot on, only two levels, privacy screens, nice clean bedding and towels, comfy beds, each has a seperate safe too. Overall good place for a solo traveller, felt safe and comfortable throughout the whole stay.

Female dorm bathroom was a bit cramped and of worse quality than the shared female bathroom outside. Noise from the female bathroom was also annoying at night. No issues with the mixed rooms. Entrance to the hostel is a bit grim, but its on the first floor, so you dont have to walk too much.

I felt safe and relaxed here. Good location just next to the airport shuttle bus stop. Bed and showers were super clean. Shower fully equipped. Staff helps with a luggage. Has small kitchen zone with nice view.

Bed stairs not convenient, should be very careful while climbing. Roll curtain is half transparent and makes loud noise.

Super convenient, clean and affordable hostel in Kawloon area. In walking range to the metro, as well as easy reach by bus from the airport (just get the oyster card, or if u didn't buy one you can get it at the hostel). Staff is friendly and will help out with useful tips. Toilet and shower areas are clean. Bed was comfy and didn't have any bedbugs. Bed has a card lockable storage option, no lock needed. Good AC/USB sockets at the top of the bed.

People have different schedules, some snore, some do work at night with laptop light on. So if you are not used to the lively dorm life or are a light sleeper, you can get some earplugs from the staff. Otherwise dorms may not be for you! The Mahjong was great! Thanks.

The Mahjong is an international guesthouse situated in a local-yet-convenient-and-central location in Hong Kong. Situated close to the MTR metro station you can visit kowloon downtown, hong kong island or the new territories in just under 30min. the area around the hostel is not touristy, bustling with activity, local cafes and breakfast places, yet it is much quieter than staying around Central for example (especially at night). The staff was super friendly and had many visit suggestions, were very understanding, and was always here to help. The locker in the room was quite big.

The rooms were slightly noisy and the shared bathrooms could have been bigger and cleaner but overall it was still acceptable.

We had an amazing experience at The Mahjong Hostel! Our group of 19 people flew in from Malaysia for a MacLehose Trail trekking trip. As you can imagine, each of us carried two large bags: one luggage and one hiking backpack. Despite our bulky baggage and large group size, the hostel treated us incredibly well. Before our arrival, the staff proactively reached out to us via WhatsApp to arrange early check-in, making the whole process super smooth and efficient when we got there. We really appreciated that thoughtful gesture, it saved us a lot of time and hassle. They also thoughtfully arranged separate rooms for the girls and boys, and the girls’ room even came with two shower booths and two toilets, which was extremely convenient. While it's true that rooms in Hong Kong tend to be small, The Mahjong’s clever bunk bed design (with upper and lower compartments) made it easy for us to store all our bags and still have space to organize everything nicely. Another bonus: they offer laundry services with pick-up and return within a few hours: super helpful for trekkers like us. The rooms and bathrooms were clean, and we had no issues at all. Location-wise, although it’s not right in the heart of Mong Kok, it’s still very convenient, just about 300 meters from the To Kwa Wan MTR station, and surrounded by several nearby bus stops, making it easy to get around the city. On top of that, the vibe of the hostel was great. We met some really friendly fellow travelers, which made the stay even more enjoyable. Truly a top-notch backpacker hostel in Hong Kong! ❤️

All the staff were very friendly. They hang their recommendations in the neighborhood on the wall, so I tried many local restaurant. It was a great experience! Location was perfect for airport and other popular area. There are several bus stops nearby. It was very convenient. Thank you!!

The female dorm has two toilets and two showers, which was very convenient. However, while other guests slept in the morning, I was afraid to use them to make noise. (There was other female bathroom so it was no problem though!) Also, it was a bit difficult to know which items are common or private in the public area.

This hostel is good close to lots of shops and restaurants and MRT and Bus A22 from the airport staff are friendly and the hostel has nice vibes

It is a bit expensive but then again HK is not as cheap as it used to be

Very nice staff, first of all. The bathroom and the sleeping spaces were spotless clean! The lounge might be more comfortable and the kitchen which is really a tiny corner. Looks definitely older and more used that the pictures. I stayed 10 days and felt very comfortable. The location is amazing! Close to the buses and MTR, markets and day to day Hong Kong life. There are many great cheap restaurants and food joints to eat! That’s the biggest advantage. People were socialising, easy to make friends.

• Street noises, doors and curtains are loud at night. Good earplugs are enough. • Bed curtains are see-through and thus offer limited privacy.
