The location of this hotel couldn't be better. It's right at the main Piazza, just steps from the bus/ship area. We had a room with an ocean view and small balcony and the breeze off the ocean was divine. The breakfast was very typical of Italian breakfasts, with an assortment of pastries, meats, cheeses, fresh fruits, yogurts, and an attempt at an American style breakfast with bacon and some sort of pizza sandwich thing. And coffee, of course. The room was very clean and the small staff was friendly and helpful. I've stayed in 7 different hotels in Italy in several different cities. There are a million to choose from, but this is the first hotel I've stayed in that I can honestly say I would return to.

I wish I had booked this through the hotel directly instead of Booking.com. We had to leave unexpectedly a day early, and the hotel said they couldn't refund our last night because we paid for it through Booking's web site. They did refund the city tax.

really good value for the cost compared to many other options in the area. amaaaazing location close to ferries, buses, and beach, and the sunsets from the room are stunning! the single room is small but surprisingly doesn’t feel small because of the super high ceiling and giant windows opening onto the balcony, and the big cupboards help with storage. soundproofing was really great to block out most of the outside noise from the street. the light in the room was beaaautiful, staff were lovely, and i would definitely stay here again!

bathroom is a little run down but to be expected considering the low cost.

This was a simple, comfortable hotel in a great location As expected, it was nothing fancy but it was a clean and comfortable room which met our needs for touring the area . It's in a great location, just steps from the ferry port & main transport area and not even a block from the Duomo. If was nice not having to lug our suitcases too far. As advertised, there are 27 steep steps up to front door but once inside, there was an elevator to the other floors. We had a room w/ balcony overlooking the bus/ferry transport as well as the main road through town. We enjoyed watching the police direct traffic which could get crazy at times. We had a window that opened for fresh air but there was no outside noise once shut. Good AC, a firm but comfortable bed, a mini fridge and enough outlets for charging. Small shower but good water pressure & hot water. Breakfast included, nothing fancy but enough pastries, coffee, fruit, and juice served from 8am-10am. The staff was very friendly and helpful and made coffees and tea on request. I thought the accommodation prices were reasonable considering high Amalfi prices during the high tourist season in September. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Great location! Easy access to all forms of transportation and to Amalfi and Atrani. The room was clean and had a refrigerator. A small terrace overlooked the port while other rooms overlooked the Duomo piazza. Both are very noise but closing the doors made it easy to sleep. Breakfast was good with boiled eggs, meats and cheese, cereal and local pastries. Cappuccino and other coffee options are made in real-time. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The room was exactly what I expected so close to the piazza. FYI the gelato at the bottom of the front steps is the BEST!

The steps going up to hotel are very steep. Cabs will help you carry bags if you ask.

Room narrow but absolutely perfect for myself. Fabulous large doors open to sea front. Most definitely stay here again.Piazza Duommo at back of hotel with plenty activity shops, restaurants etc.

EVERYTHING. Easy access to other areas by Sit buses which were outside hotel in bus station. Perfect location.

Location... perfect location on the Amalfi square and directly across from beach/harbor! WONDERFUL We were traveling with 15 year old boys and I felt completely comfortable letting them walk around the town on their own due to the location.

The hotel was a very quick walk from the port of Amalfi. Right in the centre of town. Yes there were stairs to climb to reach reception.. but nothing like some of the other reviews claim, honestly it wasn't that bad and the staff even came and helped us. Much like most hotels on the Amalfi coast they aren't overly modern, but our room was huge/clean, had a lovely little balcony with a great view of the Amalfi coast. Breakfast was delicious and the coffee was SO good. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Is it the cheapest hotel? no but nothing on the Amalfi coast is cheap. Amalfi was a great place, you could easily get the bus to neighbouring towns like Minori or Maiori. Or you can get ferries to positano etc. I would 100% stay here again if I visit Amalfi again.

Best is location unless you want quiet. One side faces the central square the other faces the ocean and transportation hub. All busses pretty much begin, end or stop a few minutes from the hotel. But unless you are traveling very early or very late or inland, take the ferry. It will be more enjoyable and will get you there faster and removes the possibility of being left standing at the bus stop when the buss is full. The ferry pier is a 5-10 minute walk depending on how fast you walk. If traveling by car, there is a parking lot between Amalfi and Atrani, which has a walking tunnel to the edge of Amalfi. There is an interior elevator, but a lot of tight steps to get to the lobby (they will advise you of this). Breakfast is good, but not excellent and without daily variation. My room was clean. Water for showers is strong and hot. I stayed in the single room which is small with a tiny shower (more below). However, the room does have a large closet, which makes the room usable. It also had a small ocean view balcony.

Only for the single room: The shower in the single room is tiny. Suggestion to guests, if you know what a navy shower is, do that and step out of the shower stall while you lather up. That will cut down on sore elbows and possible bruises. Suggestion to management. Move the soap dispenser. Where it is placed in the middle of the side of the shower stall reduces the already incredibly small space by 4 inches/10 CM. Move it to a corner or front under the showerhead.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Fontana. You absolutely cannot beat the location, it is right on the Piazza and just across the street from the beach, piers, and main transportation stops. We especially loved that our driver was able to drop us off close to the entrance, and we didn't have to haul our luggage through the town. Surprising, despite the hotel's close proximity to all of these things, our room was very quiet at night. The staff was always very helpful and friendly, and we loved the included breakfast each morning. The room was very spacious and clean and the AC worked great (which we were incredibly thankful for, since we visited in the middle of a heatwave!). I highly recommend this hotel.

Nothing, it was great!

It is in the heart of the city. Exactly near the dom and plaza in front of the dom. Also, the commercial streets are near (basically, you go out and start the piazza). Also, just across the street you can find the beach, the port and all the attractions.

The bed could be a bit more comfy. The problem is that even for a twin bed they have 2 mattresses so it is like sleeping in separate beds. You have to get down from the bed from time to time to push the mattresses back one near the other. Also, I would suggest to change the pillows: very low pillows. A! And another thing: very noisy during the day due to the fact that all attractions are nearby and early in the morning when the the shops and stores on the street near are being opened or supplied. Maybe could get in consideration to change somehow the windows with noise reduction ones or any other solution.
