I love the history of this place, the antiques, the garden and above all Mara and Francesca. They both looked after us and their attention to detail was amazing. We loved and enjoyed the company of Leopoldo and Gastone the teckels. We would recommend this place to anyone who loves history and wants to be close to Lucca. Thank you so much for everything

Absolutely lovely. The property it’s an oasis of calm & serenity as it has a massive garden in the back that seems more ljke a park with big tall trees than a simple garden. Staff is so kind and nice. Really makes the whole place and staying there a wonderful experience. If you’re driving or cycling stay here not in a hotel. Location is 10 min drive from Lucca city centre so a vehicle (of any shape or form) is necessary

The property is  breathtakingly beautiful. Everything is decorated perfectly and with taste, our room was incredible and in this bed i might have had one of the best sleeps of my life. It is obvious that the owners run their business with a lot of love. The owner and her partner are sweet, polite and very customer oriented. The homemade cakes for breakfast were delicious. It was amazing and we would definitely return.

We were delighted to stay there: everything was just perfect!! The house was built about 500 years ago and beautifully restored and decorated with antique furniture. Our hosts were very friendly and gave us all the info we needed about Lucca, Pisa and surroundings. Breakfast was delicious!! Our room was spacious and very comfortable!! We also enjoyed the old garden surrounding the house. It is a unique location to stay. We, for sure, will never forget our stay at Villa la Dogana!!❤️

We loved our stay at Villa La Dogana! The rooms are beautiful and well maintained, beds are really comfy. The garden is lovely and magnolia tree is a must see. It's also located close to Lucca, only a 10 min drive away. But the biggest highlight of our stay here was the breakfast! So many (homemade) options to choose from. You can't make a bad decision on what to pick, since everything tastes delicious!

I can understand some people would feel intimated by some of the dogs.

The property is excellent, completely surrounded by a wide garden where everyone can enjoy the stay sitting on benches. The building, in baroque style, is really cozy and embodies the history of the house. It’s pure magic. Moreover, the staff has been always kind during the stay, and it’s been focused on our needs. Highly recommended.

Beautifully renovated, the garden is a pleasure to stroll around and the breakfast was amazing! Lovely homemade cakes 🍰. Beds were comfy we slept so soundly. Would highly recommend to anybody. Mara was so friendly and hospitable she made us feel really welcome and looked after. Grazie mille 🤩

Lovely, welcoming atmosphere in a gorgeous place. Outstanding location just 15 min drive outside of Lucca. Beautiful old villa that used to act as the border between old Italian nation states. Parking available and free onsite. Long nature walk right next door, huge garden with terraces. Some rooms even have their own ground level patio (ours did!) Breakfast was elaborate, homemade and delicious. Went far beyond basic pastries. Our host even offered to make us eggs to order!

We were two families staying at Villa La Dogana in February 2025. What a beautiful experience! Mrs Floriana was so friendly and heplful and made us feel like at home. The Villa is beautiful old house preserved with love and affection.
