We originally booked a 3-star hotel in Maiori, but due to an internal issue, we were graciously upgraded—at no extra cost—to the 5-star Hotel Botanico San Lazzaro. What an incredible surprise! From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel truly welcomed and taken care of. The room was elegant and comfortable, with stunning views and every detail carefully thought out. We also had the chance to enjoy the spa, which was pure bliss—professional service, relaxing treatments, and a tranquil atmosphere that left us completely recharged. The hospitality throughout the hotel was exceptional: warm, attentive, and professional at every level. However, the one disappointment was the gourmet restaurant Donna Clelia. The dining setup felt inconsistent with the 5-star standard—initially set with only water glasses and lacking the refinement one would expect from a fine dining experience. The wine glasses were brought only when the wine arrived. One of the desserts was unfortunately inedible, and although we shared our honest feedback when asked, there was no apology or acknowledgment—yet it still appeared on the bill. This felt out of place in an otherwise impeccable stay. Overall, Hotel Botanico San Lazzaro is a truly special place, and we would love to return. We just hope the restaurant will elevate its service to match the excellence of the rest of the hotel.

Donna Clelia restaurant

This property is simply amazing! From the history and architecture of the building to the incredible view of the Amalfi coast to the delicious breakfast and lovely staff. Parking was interesting. It is a very tiny, narrow parking area a short distance from the property and is on the cliffside of the hill. The manager offered to park our car for us which we gladly accepted. Finding parking in that area is non-existent so we were thrilled that it was offered by the property. My family highly recommends Badia Santa Maria de' Olearia.

The hotel is unique, interesting and set in a stunning location within a cave with fantastic views. Our spacious room was front facing with superb views. The breakfast was plentiful and is served on the terrace which has fantastic views over the coast - Italo makes a mean cappuccino 🙂. The staff are very good but worth noting that apart from Vincenzo the manager not much English is spoken so a little Italian comes in handy. (Although I'm sure their English is probably better than my attempts at Italian!). Maiori is a good sized town with many bars & restaurants - it's not as "touristy" as Amalfi & Positano which is good. We found it very easy to travel around the coast using the TraVelMar ferry boats from Maiori.

The hotel is nearly 4km from the nearest town Maiori. It's not advisable to walk on the road as it's not safe due to the amount of traffic and it's very narrow. However - there is a complimentary shuttle bus that runs to and from the center of Maiori 3 times a day which is incredibly useful. We found the local buses quite unreliable as they were frequently full and this was only early May. We did take a taxi from Maiori to the hotel one evening and this cost 20 Euros.

WOW this hotel is a gem in the Amalfi Coast. The views are unbeatable. The location is so unique and far from the town full of tourists. They had our parking spot ready for us, but make sure you call them for instructions. The shuttle to town is a plus, and Franco (driver) was amazing. Make sure you reserve your spot and update them if anything changes on your pick up time. The breakfast was delicious and fresh every day. We can't wait to come back!!! Thank you!!! Badia Santa Maria de' Olearia Is beautiful! It was a treat to stay there with my mother for her 70th birthday. The views spectacular from the terrace at breakfast and from our room. It was such a charming and serene space. Beds were the comfiest we found in Italy! Breakfast was delicious with many options. And staff was always so kind and helpful even with language barriers. Vincenzo was the most gracious host and helped arrange taxis and shuttles making everything smooth.

There wasn't anything I didn't like. However helpful to understand that there is limited parking if you drive (1 spot I think) and the hotel is out of town. So to get into Maoiri you need a taxi (30 euro), the city bus or the free hotel shuttle service that has a limited schedule. It is typical for the amalfi coast -transportation is difficult especially in summer with long long lines of tourists. So plan ahead and plan on spending some money on transportation.

This hotel is spectacular, the views are amazing, its a very small hotel and the staff are exceptional too, nothing too much trouble. Breakfast was a buffet, lots of choice. The rooms are amazing and the hotel built into the rock is second to none. Would highly recommend staying here.

Downside, no pool, but you do have use of a gorgeous pool at a sister hotel in Maiori.

The best part was the abundant breakfast and the terrace in the grotta, overlooking the sea. We met wonderful people - Vincenzo and Italo were excellent hosts! The shuttle service was convenient to the center of Maiori and the driver, Franco, was great. Vincenzo helped park our car during our stay, which was very helpful, given how tight the roads are.

the view from the terrace set in a mountain was beautiful. Was interesting and different having been a monastery with appropriate decor to match. Room was nice great shower staff friendly and helpful Vincenzo provided helpful information and Itola and Lucy served our breakfast and kept our rooms clean, they even bought a cake and candles for my wife’s special birthday 🎂 👍🏼🙏🏼❤️

Liked just about all of it. Location in the mountain on a narrow road made it difficult to get out and walk local , although I still jogged down the winding road with beautiful scenery have to be wary of traffic. You rely on the Shuttle bus to take you to nearest turn but our driver Danielo was always on time and very helpful he made our journeys pleasant Lovely lad and recommended a visit to partner hotel Botanics which had a swimming pool and spa and great views

unique type of hotel, carved IN a rock! Delicious breakfast with homemade warm vegetables is served in a véry special outside rock terrace, rooms are still as if the monks live there, special...

parking is not on site but 100 m further down the road where you cannot turn, very narrow so not possible for those faint of hard, hotel is ON the road so can get noisy in high season, there is no beach as mentioned, you need to drive to Maiori by car to swim, but they offer a voucher

Very charmant stay, unique experience with beautiful view from the room and breakfast area. Staff are very welcoming (but rarely speaks English), knowing Italian is a plus 😀 Our room was quite small but you have everything you may need (slippers, towels, shampoo etc)

It was a bit hard to find the parking (nice staff helped us a lot) Can you send a map with indications to other clients, that would be appreciated!
