I like the place for how it was fairly and honestly described at booking.com and by the host. Overall, I say it was a pretty decent place to stay if you are visiting Kusatsu Onsen for a day or two (2), either alone or with friends or family, and you plan on hopping from Gozannoyu Onsen to Ohtakiyu Onsen and then to Sainokawara Onsen, and the rest of the souvenir shops and restaurants in the area. The place is accessible by the code that the host will send to you. There is no staff or reception desk if you are expecting one. But hey, you're in Japan! This set-up is not unexpected unless of course you're coming from the moon! Haha! The room has futon (depending on the number of guests I think), a small round table for meal or sake after the onsen, a small ref and tv, an a/c (during summer), and heater - which I could honestly say is very pretty easy to use. There is no shower area (obviously - you are in an Onsen area!), but there is a lavatory, separate toilets for male/female, and the savior- a common microwave oven in case you decide to reheat food for dine-in. The common areas are clean and tidy, and comes with all the stuff you need except of course, those personal ones. You will be hearing footsteps but not until the wee hours of the night or early morning. But after downing a bottle of beers or Kusatsu sake, I don't think you would still mind. There are a few negative reviews about Oyado Zen Ryokan that one might find or read. But I say, forget about them. You travel to places to discover, meet people and experience culture(s) in ways that give you a smile at the end of the day. You gotta do what you gotta do! Lastly, it is roughly about an eight (8) minute walk to Yubatake and the Kusatsu Onsen Terminal. Ciao!

It was a little out of reach from other places, but it’s a small town so it’s not too bad. The osen provided in the picture as of may 2025 is still closed off for tourists, there is many other places to experience the osen but the ones with showers seemed to be paid.

An incredible find. The rooms have a classic and traditional feeling. The property might lack a private bathroom or a shower, but you're literally 10 minutes away from one of the best onsens in Kusatsu (5min if you cut through Shoutoku park)... Will return for sure in the future!

Minutes away on foot from Ohtaki no Yu, one of the major onsen in town. The room was spacious and clean. Linen provided were fresh and super comfortable, bonus points for the extra fluffy duvet ! The futon was a bit thin but I messaged the owner and they provided an extra thicker futon in no time. The shared toilet and communal spaces were well kept and all amenities were provided.

Liked the tatami style of the place! Looks newly refurbished and very clean. Facilities are complete but bear in mind there is no shower/bath facilities. We went for the Ohtaki No Yu Onsen and showered there, so this was not an isssue. Toilets are shared but this is not an issue too as there weren't many ppl staying at the ryokan. Parking is walkable, only 50metres away. Very value for money!!

Very few people stayed at the ryokan so it could be eerie when one needs to get up in the middle of the night to use the washroom.

Easy check-in and checkout, close to everything, and VERY good value for the money. Lots of onsen nearby for morning/night shower since the stay itself doesn't have any ways of showering. They also provide a towel set for onsen, which you can bring to the onsens so you don't have to rent. Parking is great too!

It is located about 15-min walk from bus terminal that is hard to access during a snowy day. A self check-in is not that smooth using a tiny tablet which is hard to fill up the info. It offers no support if travellers have any problems.

Less than 10 min walk from the center of kutatsu. Spacious clean and very calm. Easy to find and to check in with clears instructions. 4 to 5 parking spot available

Be carefull there is no bathroom. ( its a good excuse to go to the onsen of Kusatsu.)

I would have loved a desk and a chair, but that´s not common in Japan. So I am not blaming the accomodation.
