Atmospheric and charming Ryokan, attentive and helpful staff, enjoyable Onsen facilities, breakfast and dinner were exceptional.

Only criticism would be that there was no laundry facilities.

The meals (dinner and breakfast) were fresh and delicious. The highlight of the stay was of course the hot spring.

Very satisfied with the accommodation, both with regards to the the facilities and the food, but most of all with the employees. Pleasant service all around, will definitely book again if I I am coming back to Hakodate.

It was very Japanese - as I set the theme of this trip being ‘feel as much of Japan as possible’ I was satisfied with what I paid for. My pregnant wife found it easy to relax in the comfortable room as well as the bath. Overall, I would find no problem recommending this place.

I could see the wall of the room aging. That’s fine - on the flip side, it tells the long history of the place. I don’t think there would be any issues with sanitation but I am concerned some picky people may find trouble with it.

Staff was excellent and extremely attentive. Whole of the ryokan was clean and tidy. Rooms were very spacious and well decorated. The included dinner and breakfast was a great opportunity to experience authentic Japanese dishes, some we loved and some were a bit harsh on our poor westernised palettes, but that was the point.

Only problem we experienced is location which is far from train station so had to rely on taxis.

The ryokan was situated in the middle of the city and so was surrounded by taller buildings. Thus, the onsen and rooms didn't have much of a view but the ryokan's inner courtyard was very pretty. Nevertheless, it is still a good place to experience an authentic Japanese ryokan.

The dinner could have been of better quality. The breakfast (showen in picture) was below expectation.

Ichinomatsu is a traditional ryokan with a hot spring bath. I love the atmosphere in this type of lodging - very relaxing and with people ready to take care of the logistics around you. Breakfast and dinner served to perfection in your room. Short stroll to a big bath for the guests - perfectly maintained. View to a small japanese style garden. Very relaxing two days.

I cant think af any points to criticize.

We had a wonderful stay at Ryokan Ichinomatso. The staff were very kind and professional, and made us feel so welcome. The food was delicious and deserving of a Michelin star! Our hostess was absolutely lovely and very warm and kind. She gave us some excellent recommendations for local activities. The onsen was very relaxing.

No issues - we loved everything about the Ryokan.

Dinner and breakfast were delicious. The room was comfortable and pleasant, the onsen was clean and very relaxing to use. Parking was free and easy. The staff was very kind and spoke great English. They had a great selection of drinks eg sake and beer to order to the room should one wish

Food was fantastic as were the baths. Room was very nice. Beautiful view of snow out the window. Made for a very romantic stay. Staff was extremely kind and helpful.

Location was a little inconvenient - had to rely on taxis to reach due to the snow. But still worth it.
