At first glance, Hakone Yutowa seemed like any other hotel in the area. We spent a couple of days here and wished we had booked a longer stay! The service is as expected, impeccable! The location is within walking distance of Gora station where the train ends and the cable car\ropeway begins. It is also a main bus station hub for multiple lines. There is a delicious gyoza restaurant within 3 minutes of walking from the hotel and a Lawson station about 5-10 minutes from the hotel (same direction past the restaurant). The Hakone open-air museum is about a 15-minute walk from the hotel or can be reached by bus as well. There is a bus stop right in front of the hotel but walking to Gora station gives you more options. We booked multiple rooms including a condo/suite which offered amazing views of the lush landscape and mountainside. The rooms are spacious (massive compared to the rooms in Tokyo/Osaka) and the condo/suite offers a nice bathtub with natural flowing hot spring water. I loved the view from the oversized windows. The kids loved hanging out at the playroom and our family got a chance to use the private onsen. The facilities offer an abundance of food and snacks throughout the day with ice cream and coffee always available near the onsens and alcohol, snacks, and sweets available in the evening at the library. There are plenty of board games for the whole family to enjoy. It rained while we were there and we were surprised to see that there were always umbrellas available at all entry and exit points. You can also borrow them to take with you if you head out around town and it looks like it might rain.

Room was spacious, good location to train station

Arrived after a long day of travelling, 3rd bed was not made for us (as it was at all other hotels in Japan), fridge in the room was not turned on, we had perishables with us as we arrived too late for dinner. Really looked forward to the breakfast buffet in the morning after not having very many breakfasts while we were travelling, this was our last night in Japan before heading back to our home country, we arrived at 8:40 in the morning. We were told that the buffet ended at 9:30 there was hardly anything left on the buffet and it was not replenished while we were there (except rice), no fruit, no bread products, Very disappointed for the $ spent at this location. We were really looking forward to a good breakfast as we had a 19 hour travel day ahead of us.

One of the best place i have ever stayed. No luxurious but cozy, warm and homey. Rooms are spacious, clean. Curtains cover perfectly the outside light. Not noisy. But the great part of the hotel is the common areas - library, garden, fire place with the small pool, children rooms. Great management decission for providing constantly free coffee and beverages, also periods of the day with cakes and alcohol for free. This really gives great sense of being treated as guest. To the management and staff: great job! Design is warm and cosy. Great location next to Gora station Strongly recommended!

There was free beer, whiskey, coffee, tea, soft drinks and snacks. The ly provide a yukata to wear around the hotel. The grounds are beautiful and it's close to the train station and open air museum. 5 min walk. Also, there is a massage chair and a Manga room with English and Japanese Manga. Finally, they even have a private onsen in addition to public onsen.

There was little to no vegan/vegetarian food for breakfast and dinner. However, upon request, the chef will make you something. The shoes they provide were hard on the feet.

This hotel was sensational, I booked our stay because of the reviews I had read and we were very happy we stayed here. The room was so big and the beds were extremely comfortable, they are low down on the floor which didn’t bother us. There was a sofa in the room as well. There was no kettle in the room, but they have them at reception and I’m sure they would give you cups, we always travel with our own travel mugs. Breakfast was included, delicious japanese breakfast with lots of different dishes and some pastries and fruit. The free soft drink and snacks in the lounge every afternoon and alcohol drinks and sweets from 7pm was great. The lounge area is lovely with a great outlook onto the gardens. It is a big hotel, not noisy at all even though it is opposite the railway line. It is a 5 min walk from Gora station & the cable car train that takes you to the Ropeway (Gondola), it is all very convenient. There is a Lawsons convenience store 5 minutes walk in the other direction and there are restaurants near the station. The hotel has a public onsen and 2 private onsen rooms, you can use them as much as you like for 40 mins a time and they give you Yukata’s to use while staying there. We loved our time at Hakone Yutowa, Gora and would definitely stay again

Nothing it was all great

I am so happy I booked this hotel. It was amazing value for money and my stay was perfect. The hotel is clean, comfortable and beautiful. The location is excellent, a short walk from Gora Station and accessible for all Hakone Freepass activities and sightseeing experiences. The hotel offers a fantastic onsen, both public and private. It has a spa which I did not book a treatment but it looks lovely. I did not have dinner in the hotel, breakfast was amazing. The hotel offers complimentary drinks, snacks and desserts at certain times. These are available after Onsen or in the lovely, relaxing library area they have to offer. The rooms are gorgeous and the grounds are stunning. You will not regret booking this hotel for your stay!

Excellent location about 200m from Gora Station on a flat path (unlike most accommodations in town that are built on mountain slopes). Very nice guest lounge with refreshments between 1430-1930 Two private onsens for 30min stays (for some reason, though, one cannot reserve the private onsens, and have to come and wait until they become vacant). Additionally, public onsens.. Friendly staff, but not all speak even basic English. Spacious room, but very small bath/toilets. Parking for guests (100m away).

Very limited variety in breakfast, which is served only between 0700-0830, creating a big jam of people arriving around 8am. Higlly firm matresses. Hotel is divided into 3 buildings (reception is at the east one, which is preferred).

We really enjoyed this hotel. There was parking available when we arrived. The hotel has many areas where you can relax and there is a good selection of complimentary drinks available around the clock including alcohol after 7pm. Dinner is included and was half buffet with the other half being a choice of 3 mains. The food was very good and it included drinks inc alcohol. Breakfast was served in the same room and is a mostly Japanese fair. The rooms a traditional tatami rooms but they did have a couch and beds in them. The rooms were a generous size.

The only complaint was that the bathroom was small, which was weird given the generous room sizes. There are elevators but you still need to carry your luggage up one flight of stairs. The only other observation is we think our room door was hinged on the wrong side. The way it opened into the room was odd and made it difficult to get into and out of the room.

The hotel has a relaxing environment, the hot tubs are great, both private and public, with a footbath outside. There is a nice lounche with free food, drinks, in the evening including alcoholic drinks. The environment is beatiful, and exploring Hakone can be done nicely from this location.

The price is very high in comparison to prices at other places in Japan, thus the price-quality is not that good. The dinner in the hotel was very expensive compared to other places in Japan. Also, the beds sleep well, but there is only "big" light in the room and the bath room is small. The sleeping rooms and the corridors could use a bit of modernisation.

Exceeded expectations. Right by the mountain train and cable car. Lovely little town. Enormous room, wonderful facilities, nice meals, generous perks (drinks and snacks). The children's playroom is a very sweet touch.

More vegetarian options at dinner would be appreciated. A few steamed veggies or being pointed to the salad bar every night isn't ideal when everyone else has wonderful food to choose between. Even the tofu had pork in it! This isn't a criticism so much as an observation that a lot of the front desk staff have minimal English so make sure to have Google translate ready so you can be sure everyone is understanding one another. All the staff were very helpful and friendly.
