We booked as a group of friends and booked 2 villas for one night. Our villa looked out across the forested mountains of Hakone and was truly incredible. We enjoyed every single minute of our stay here, especially the Kaiseki dinner and breakfast (thank you to the Head Chef for also providing me an incredible vegetarian selection). Another highlight was using the open onsen, again looking out to the wonderful lush forest. The team who work here are amazing and provided an exceptional service. It was so special. Thank you to the team! Another great bonus is the location - so close to the small town and station and a 15 minute walk to the Open Air Museum (also highly recommend).

The place is absolutely breathtaking—completely surrounded by nature, it truly feels like experiencing Japan in its purest form. The staff matched the setting perfectly: warm, attentive, and incredibly kind. I especially appreciated how they welcomed us with genuine smiles and curiosity about our background. This wasn’t just good service; it was top-tier hospitality. What I loved most is how the ryokan is fully immersed in nature. Everything—from the materials used to the attitude of the staff—seems to honor and harmonize with the environment. And nature, in turn, seems to embrace the place back, creating a beautiful sense of balance. It’s something words can’t fully capture—you simply have to experience it yourself.
Nothing, everything was perfect.

We had the best time of our Japan trip in this ryokan. The place is traditional and offer an amazing outside onsen (although it’s shared, you will often be on your own) and great Japanese meals (the place arranged a no-meat diner for us which was really appreciated to fit our dietary restrictions). The location is ideal, just a few minutes from Gora station (train + various bus routes). You will feel recharged after spending a few nights there.
Nothing. The tatami is not the comfiest for sleeping but is part of the experience

The dinner here was amazing - a traditional, several course Japanese meal. This was the most relaxing part of a busy holiday travelling round Japan, we loved the outdoor onsen in the autumn scenery. Staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly. If you want to feel like you've experienced Japan, I couldn't recommend this more, and it's really close to the station to see the rest of Hakone too.

We stayed here with my husband and daughter at this hotel. The staff specially picked out a traditional robe for our 5 year old daughter and made a menu for her for dinner and breakfast. The ryokan itself is spacious and clean. The open air bath is very beautiful and very comfortable to spend time there. Service in the hotel is on top! During dinner everything was explained in detail about all the dishes. For the experience of living in a traditional Japanese rekan with excellent service - Gora Kansuiro is a great place!

Traditional Japanese charm with amazing service, delicious food and beautiful surroundings. We felt pampered and comfortable, and loved experiencing Japanese food and culture in this special traditional setting. Highly recommend for first-time visitors to Japan, definitely felt like home away from home! Loved the private and public onsens and walking through the huge gorgeous forest-like garden.
Sleeping on floor futons takes getting used to, we requested extra pillows. Please keep in mind these are traditional and not modern facilities, and that’s part of the charm. We could hear the nearby train during the day.

Insanely beautiful, traditional building. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The staff were exceptional, incredibly kind and welcoming. We felt really looked after. The garden was magical. They catered to our vegan dietary requirements. We also loved the location being so close to the open air museum.
Although, we appreciated the traditional cuisine, we sadly didn’t enjoy the food, nor did the other guests we were with. Could perhaps be updated in order to reduce food waste of such a large course meal.

Loveliest experience - from the Onsen, to the traditional architecture of the Ryokan, exceptional staff & one of a kind curated menus. A couple of specific comments: - The location is super accessible - whether traveling with public transportation or a car. It's also a great point to continue exploring the nearby towns and attractions as it sits right in the heart of Hakone. - The staff is the epitome of hospitality - all so wonderful and lovely. It's rare to come across such a dedicated team of people who strive to give you the best service. - The Onsen are great and refreshing. The waters are great, the air is fresh and the overall ambiance relaxes you instantly. Also for anyone wondering on tattoos, the place is welcoming anyone with (I have 13 tattoos myself and it was no problem at all). - The architecture is one of a kind and truly a remarkable experience. The beds were great to sleep in, the tatami mats are comfortable for your feet and the traditional shoji walls make you feel like you're in another time. - The meals are a wonderful dive into the Japanese cuisine, allowing you to taste a huge variety of Japanese dishes. Ingredients are sourced mostly locally with an emphasis on quality & taste. Each serving surprises you with it's unique textures and tastes. Overall, an absolutely amazing experience that I will cherish forever and a big heartfelt thank you again to the staff of Gora Kansuiro for making it so special. I would recommend anyone to stay a night or two or longer if possible.

Very authentic experience at Gora Kansuiro. We stayed at our own ryokan, which was lovely, and had the traditional Kaiseki dinner which was absolutely delightful although served in the restaurant (as was the breakfast). The property is conveniently located 5 minutes away from Gora station and has a stunning Japanese garden and open air onsen. Staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. Perhaps good to know, as a guest with a few tattoos I covered them with tattoo cover stickers and it was not an issue (though there wasn’t anyone in the outdoor onsen when we visited). Enjoyed a basic Ryokan experience here and the futon beds were much more comfortable than expected. Staff were lovely and accommodating, however was slightly disappointed with how small the indoor public bath was. Can't speak to the outdoor bath however as we didn't get the chance to check it out. Kaiseki dinner and breakfast was wonderful although it would be much nicer to enjoy in our private rooms (other guests in the shared dining space were a bit noisy). Located very close to Gora station so would recommend if you want to stay in the area! Quite expensive per night but most ryokans in Hakone were similar or even more expensive.
