The staff were so very kind and helpful. Location is great, but a tip for anyone using the directions on google maps: it is better to go past the stop recommended by maps and on to the next stop, Motohakone-ko port. You do have to backtrack a little but it is much more pleasant as you can walk through the town (and past a large Lawson if you want some snacks). The earlier stop is a bit treacherous, with no footpaths.

I stayed in the superior room (room with private bathroom) which was spacious and clean, and the bed was very comfortable! The highlight of staying in this room was waking up and sipping a coffee on the balcony in the morning. The staff were very helpful. They noticed that I had heavy luggage so one of them offered to help me carry my larger piece of luggage up the stairs to my room which I really appreciated. Things to do nearby: The property is a short walk from Hakone Shrine so it makes it easy for guests to get to this famous tourist spot early and beat the crowds. The main activities that you can do in the immediate area are go to the shrine or go on a sightseeing cruise. I also believe that you can take a bus from the bus station/cruise ticketing area to the Komagatake Ropeway. It was overcast the day I was in Hakone so I opted to go to an onsen and so I took a bus to Tenzan onsen which is very tourist friendly and is tolerant of people with tattoos.

Nothing to note. I really enjoyed my stay here!

Great location, really close to Lake Ashi and you could see it from the balcony in our room. We loved the chilled out atmosphere of this place, the lounge area was a lovely place to spend some time in the morning or evenings. We booked a superior room and it was very cosy, 2 double bunk beds and some bean bags to chill in. We also had a balcony. No TV in the rooms, but this was a good thing and went with the laid back peaceful vibe of the place.

Shower room could do with some maintenance as there was some mould around the seals and the water didn't drain quickly. We had dinner one evening and thought it was decent but could do with improving as the portion was very small and it tasted ok but we expected better.

This is more of a hostel than a hotel but we liked it. I would recommend booking the double rooms with balcony and private toilet and shower. There are 2 double bunk beds but you are only allowed 2 people per room and were provided with toiletries and pyjamas. There was enough space for our luggage. The breakfast was a mix of western/japanese and I thought it was really good value and certainly filled you up! The location was pretty near the bus station, boat and very accessible for Lawson's and 7-11. The lounge area was really lovely with an open fire and had a really nice ambiance for relaxing in the evening. It was my son's birthday and they were very flexible in changing our rooms and the staff were always helpful and very friendly. Its a lovely quaint place to stay and my husband and I and our 2 adult children enjoyed our stay here!

Not really a criticism on the accommodation but generally everything shuts after 5pm at Hakone so we tended to eat our main meal at lunch time then either ate at Rohen or got food from Lawsons / 7-11 and heated up and ate at the lounge area and as mentioned earlier it was a really nice ambiance to do this. It also meant that we tried to plan our day so we were out early to pack as much as we could by 5pm

Loved this hotel and would recommend it to anyone looking to visit Hakone. Everyone working there is so kind and helpful. We arrived soaking wet from our trip from Tokyo and they offered us towels and tea to sit by the fire and warm up, then kept our bags there until check in time. The breakfast was fabulous, especially enjoying from the view overlooking Lake Ashi in the background. Having the fireplace lit until 10pm was so lovely - lots of guest enjoying the den area together with jazz playing in the background. 10/10 vibes.

I think the only thing I can think of to make it better is if there was a small gym on the premises or close by, but getting out for runs along the lakeside in the mornings was lovely!

Stayed in a private room (non hostel) with a private bathroom for me and my girlfriend during our 1.5 days in Hakone. I wish more of our hotel experiences were like this one. The room was luxuriously big (for Japanese standards), the room was clean, AC worked well, provided a little view of the lake, and there was a really nice lobby area to chill and meet new people with a cocktail. Such a good place provided you can take a bus down here (which was 5-8 minute walk from the bus stop). I would definitely stay here again-but note that they don't have an onsen. We ended up going to Hakone Yuryo by bus to get our onsen-time.

None! A great stay with great staff.

The location is amazing - 10min easy walk to the Tori gate and also the best viewpoint of Mt. Fuji. This means you beat the morning crowds of people who have to get the bus there. Staff are lovely. Because we were celebrating an occasion they gave us 4 free drinks at their (well stocked!) bar which is really kind. Breakfast included was filling and varied everyday. Dinner was also great. Shared shower and bathroom facilities are clean. Thank you RoheN!

The small windowless room is a bit expensive per night given the sq foot, but for the staff and location, it's worth it! I also think all of Hakone tends to be expensive anyway.

Close to the Lake Ashi. I stayed in the superior room with my own balcony and bathroom, and it was great to have those facilities. There is a fire place on the ground floor and it is so lovely, plus the food is very delicious.

Even though I had my own bathroom and a balcony, I don’t think the room was worth the money, it still had the “hostel” feel, and the pjs weren’t cotton, and the bed wasn’t that comfy. You can’t check in before 4pm, you have to make a decision on check in what time will you have a breakfast. If you are late 15 mins with check out you will pay 2k yen, and the check out is at 10am. Overall for the money, I wish I had stayed at another hotel.

Our room (double room with lake view) was way nicer than we expected from the photos. Super comfortable bed, with room for 2 more people on the bed below. Nice seating area with comfy beanbag chairs, heated blankets. Lots of outlets to plug in devices. Excellent shower and high-tech Japanese toilet :-) The communal area downstairs is great -- again, nicer than in the photos. Free coffee, tea, water available all day. It was a really nice place to do some work (although we got a bit tired of the lounge jazz soundtrack). The staff were terrific -- very helpful, friendly, polite. Breakfast was good, although we would have liked more Japanese dishes (it seemed to be a mix of western and Japanese). We appreciated that they varied the food selection on the second day. Having breakfast at the hotel was really helpful as there didn't seem to be that many options for eating breakfast around town, at least not during our stay in early-mid March. We ate dinner there once. Unfortunately no Japanese options. The Thai curry was OK, nothing special. Location was excellent. On our last day we took our luggage with us on the pirate cruise from Motohakone-ko to Togendai-ko (sun was shining, but no view of Mt Fuji), then took the ropeway, cable car, and train all the way to Odowara. Doing the circuit in that direction seemed less crowded than the other direction, and it beats taking the bus.

we would have preferred a fully Japanese breakfast; would be nice to vary the music that's playing in the communal lounge.

It's a beautiful place in a very nice location with somewhat easy access to tourist locations in the Hakone area. (TIP: get the Hakone free pass and then follow the tourist information about how to sightsee around the area. Do not use Google maps!!) The lounge was a nice place to relax in the evening and chat with other visitors. The breakfast was also very nice. The bathrooms were very clean. The capsule met my expectations. The staff were able to provide many helpful recommendations about how to spend my time in Hakone. They also let me leave my suitcase in the locker before check-in and after check-out.

The capsule got a bit hot and stuffy -- there was a vent in there but it didn't fully counteract this.
