The in-house onsen is small but beautiful. There's an option for indoor and outdoor. No in-house sauna, though. However, they provide you with free access to another onsen nearby that's huge with several bath options and a sauna. The location is close to a bus stop and is walkable to the nearest train station. Dinner was served in a different establishment, close to the other big onsen. Breakfast was pre-packaged and we were told to bring it to our room.

I was expecting a full Japanese experience, including tatami bed, but I got a western style bed instead. The bed was very comfortable, don't get me wrong. But it wasn't what I expected before.

The room was large, comfortable and very clean. Traditional Japanese style but with western beds. During our stay the Ryokan was pretty empty so we enjoyed both Women's and Men's Onsen without anyone there and it was a very relaxing experience. The outside Onsen was lovely and the washing area was very clean. We have nothing negative to say about the facilities. We used the private Onsen as well (for an additional fee) and it was larger than expected, very clean, but it's an indoor Onsen so the heat was almost too much to handle, especially in September but it was still a good experience overall. The receptionist spoke little English but was well prepared, everything was printed out in English and easy to understand. The Ryokan offers free entry to a water park (just a 5 minute walk from the Ryokan) but we had other plans and didn't take advantage of this offer. Hopefully next time. We did however go there for our dinner since the Ryokan cafeteria is closed and instead they offer a prepaid meal with dessert in a nearby restaurant. Yakitori (table grill) - everything was very tasty and fresh, we left full and satisfied. The staff at the restaurant spoke perfect English and explained everything well. We also loved the location. We came to the Ryokan from Owakudani using a bus (not covered by Hakone Free Pass) and in the morning walked to the Open Air Museum (15-20 min walk from the Ryokan). There's also a beautiful little flower garden right next to the Onsen. We would definitely come back here again.

We didn't like that our meal was in another location. After relaxing in the Onsen and wearing Yukatas we had to change back to regular clothes and walk to the restaurant. We still really enjoyed our stay here but changing clothes and going elsewhere wasn't ideal. We also thought that the lighting in the private Onsen could be a bit more relaxing and dimmer. A few candles wouldn't hurt. The lighting is perfect in the Public Onsens.

Very quiet and scenic hotel in Hakone. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Our room included use of the local onsen where you can wear a swimming costume and a Japanese bbq at a local restaurant which we really enjoyed. Beds were comfortable and the room was lovely. There is a traditional onsen but we didn’t use these facilities. The surrounding area is just stunning.

Bit of a trek to get to. From the train station it’s a good 15/20 minute walk uphill- with two big suitcases this was fun. The bathroom was a bit dated and the shower curtain was a bit mouldy.

We enjoyed this as an authentic Japanese experience. The room was sizable, loved the extra mattresses/futons they provided which made it very family friendly. Also enjoyed the table. Loved the location, we walked to Yunassen spa and were also able to walk to the bus stop (though the road was quite narrow in areas with our suitcases). Onsen was nice. No showers in the room, you basically use the onsen showers which was fine for us. The biggest beautiful surprise was a well-kept forest with a gorgeous path through it, directly across from the hotel entrance! Went early in the AM and it was so peaceful.

Breakfast was very fresh but quite simple.

Room was spacious and very comfortable. I love the feel of the room very much. Onsen was so amazing! I was so lucky to stay on weekdays, when the place was so quiet, and I had the big public Onsen for myself. I love they let us use their robes freely. Staff was very nice and friendly too. It's also a bonus that there was beautiful park right in front of the hotel called Horaien. I was able to enjoy the beautiful, serene walk first in the morning!

Room was a little chilly, but there is no way of adjusting the temperature in the room since it's controlled by the entire building. There was no elevator which didn't cause the problem since I stayed on the first floor, but it may be a problem for others with heavy luggage or wheelchair.

We loved the room, it was so authentically japanese, lots of space and the beds were comfortable. The opportunity to book the private onsen was wonderful. It was a very relaxing place to stay. Gorgeous area - with the forests just at the front.

Food options were pretty limited, would have been good to have some options to order simple snacks and dinner. Many places were closed or did not deliver. We wanted to enjoy the hotel and relax in the beautiful space but needed to head out to find food.

The ryokan was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The staff was super friendly (make sure you have Google translate). The dinner that was included was wonderful (note the restaurant was in a mall complex a short walk away). It was a bonus to have a private onsen. The open air museum was a 20 minute walk away.

The breakfast was ok.

The room was clean and spacious. The reception staff was helpful and friendly. The onsen was ok. The free entrance to YUNESSUN and Motoyu Mori no Yu (Onsen area) for hotel guests (a few minutes walk from the hotel along the main road though) was a big bonus.

The included breakfast was so so. The small road connecting the hotel to the main road was steep and rough - not too suitcase friendly.

We loved the most about how quiet and serene this place felt. I rarely saw anybody in the hotel and the bath was always empty. Everything was clean and ran efficiently. The breakfast was not the fanciest but we really loved it overall.

We arrived during a crazy thunderstorm and so the road was flooded. Not much the hotel could have done, but we got soaked to our knees getting there so that was a bit tough.
