Staying at The Guest House in Hakuba was an absolute dream! From the moment we arrived, the two owners went above and beyond to make my friends and me feel completely at home. Their hospitality was unmatched—they created such a warm, welcoming environment that it truly felt like we were staying with family. Not only were they incredibly kind and accommodating, but they also helped us with absolutely everything we needed—whether it was recommendations for the best ski spots, assistance with transportation, or even just sharing great conversations that made our stay extra special. Their genuine care and dedication to their guests make this place unforgettable. The property itself is immaculate—incredibly well-kept, spacious, and thoughtfully designed to provide the perfect balance of comfort and convenience. Whether it was relaxing in the cozy common areas or unwinding after a day on the slopes, everything about The Guest House exceeded our expectations. I cannot imagine staying anywhere else in Hakuba. This has become my go-to spot, and I know I’ll be returning every single year. If you’re looking for more than just a place to stay—somewhere that feels like home with hosts who truly care—this is it. Thank you for an amazing experience!

Honestly, I can’t think of anything that could have been better. From the warm hospitality to the beautifully kept property, everything exceeded my expectations. The Guest House felt like a home away from home, and I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m already looking forward to my next stay!

Staying at the Guest house exceeded our expectations and that was primarily because of the amazing hospitality provided by Koji, Chikako and the crew. From the dropping off and picking up from anywhere inclusive of the mountains, Onsens, dinners any booking really. The snow was relentless and they all worked really hard to clear the snow so they could still get us to where we wanted to go, morning or night. The location is awesome, a really nice walk into Happo and not to much further Echoland :) Breaksfast also surpassed our expectations, bacon, eggs, toast cereal, yoghurt, provided for a great start for the day and Chikako cooks up a lovely chicken curry for dinner for a little extra money should you want to eat in :) The guest house also had a really nice vibe to meet new people and just hangout :) We won't be staying anywhere else in Hakuba, this is our #1 go to and are already looking forward to returning next year. Chikako San and Koji San treat you as guests in their home. Their staff is the same way. The breakfast is simple and delicious. They are interested in your plans and guide you on things locally including making restaurant recommendations as well as bookings for you. They are very generous in dropping you and collecting you for various purposes including the bus stop, the Happo slopes and restaurants. My daughter accidentally left her jacket somewhere and Koji San collected it for us without hesitation. Overall, I'd happily come here again.

One thing to note on the rooms though is that there is no storage in the room, so you need to manage out of the suitcase. We personally don't mind, but it won't be for everyone.

Everything about my stay was perfect. First time coming here and definitely won’t be my last. As a solo-traveller everyone at The Guest House made me feel so welcome and comfortable. The highlights about this place for me were the shuttle bus, onsen-bath, owners + staff, breakfast, and that its within walking distance to the centre. I really couldn’t fault this place. Out of my other stays during my trip, this is not only the most memorable but just the best one in general. I feel so lucky to have chosen this place as I don’t believe I could’ve found a better one. The accommodation was really clean and located slightly away from the busy roads. The chill vibes and the huge windows were really good for relaxing after a long day of skiing. The guest house also offered daily drop off and pick up service to ski slopes of your choice. They also made good food recommendations and would even offer to make reservations for you. Chikako and Koji were really good hosts. I have not met such good hosts throughout my travels. They resolved every single problem we had during our stay. My mother got lost on the way back to the accommodations and they provided her with instructions and guided her back. I really couldn’t thank them for their hospitality.

Chikako and Koji are superb hosts and go out of their way to make your stay very comfortable. They are kind, caring and professional and we appreciated their excellent customer care very much. It was so good to have bespoke transport to and from the different ski resorts and that made for a relaxing start to the day. Thank you so much to the guys who drove us round and to Anna for her warm hospitality. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty and we appreciated the hot drinks available throughout the day. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and our room was comfortable.

Koji and Chikako are two of the most incredible and hospitable hosts who run and manage a wonderful guest house with the most warm and welcoming culture. From the start the information they provided made planning our trip very smooth including connecting us with the rental company for our ski equipment that picked us up from the bus, dropped us off at the Guest House, and picked up our gear from the Guest House. Koji was also very responsive via chat and helped reserve and coordinate the most delicious restaurants in Hakuba so we never had to worry about what we were going to eat during our stay. Their staff are equally fantastic driving us to the mountains every morning and picking us up when our skiing was complete. I never expected such end to end service. The rooms were clean and warm and the shared restroom area was always clean. The bathing area had a shower and a warm jacuzzi like bath that was filled up everyday for you to rest and recover much like the onsen style baths. The American style breakfast was the best we had in Japan and was exactly what we needed to fuel up for a day of skiing fresh powder. The common space where everyone would hang out had the most beautiful view outside. I loved watching the snow fall while enjoying tea, coffee, a beer, or the new years sake that was provided. Koji and Chikako were always so warm and friendly and available to help answer questions. It felt like we were staying with friend in Hakuba the entire time.

The Guest House Japan in Hakuba is an amazing place to stay! The owners, Koji and Chikako, are incredibly friendly and helpful. The location is great - it's close to the ski slopes, restaurants, and shops. The breakfast was delicious, and the in-house baths were a great way to relax after a long day of skiing. Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in Hakuba.

The room was basic. Although the common area and the dinning room are spacious and functional, but it would have been nice to a small desk and chair in the room.

Our stay at The Guest House Japan was definitely the highlight of our recent trip to Japan. Hosts Koji & Chikako went above and beyond to make sure it was one of the best experiences. They were two of most friendly, hospitable hosts we have ever had the pleasure of meeting. They arranged for us to be dropped and picked up from the ski resorts each day and to the nearby restaurants for dinner each night. The facilities were amazing, clean, warm and comfortable. The breakfast was also great with a selection of both hot and cold options. We loved the beautiful view and watching the snow fall outside from the lounge area. My son left asking "When can we come back to stay?" Thank you Koji & Chikako. You guys are amazing.

I have never stayed anywhere as brilliant as The Guest House Japan Hakuba. We were in the family loft style room as a group of friends and there is so much room compared to other places we stayed in Japan. Koji, one of the owners, picked us up from the bus station when we arrived and dropped us back at the end of our stay so we didn't have to carry luggage anywhere. The guest house also drives you to and from the ski resorts daily! It's incredibly clean and cozy, with a large common area to catch up with other travellers. We made so many friends here. The bathrooms are large, with hot baths available all day until 10pm (better than an onsen). The breakfast each morning was delicious with many hot and cold options, I especially loved the tea selection. Hot drinks were available anytime. The staff were spectacular, could not find a better place if you tried. Close to Happo One town and the owners will offer to book you dinner at the best places each night.
