-Free filter coffee ☕ -Fully equipped kitchen with big shared fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, cooking utensils, etc. -Very comfortable futons in the private room -Comfy common spaces -small but free onsen next door, and many other onsen in the area -friendly and helpful staff - could leave our bags before check in - rooftop space for drying clothes -location is close to everything you want to see in Shuzenji and many restaurants

There are no nearby grocery stores, the only ones are close to Shuzenji Station which is 40 min on foot or 10 min by infrequent bus. Nearest Konbini are 15 min away on foot.

when I first walked in the woman at the front desk gave me a map of the town and pointed out all of the things that I would need, explaining where the onsens are, the restaurants etc. It came with a pass to use an onsen for free that only locals and people at the hostel can use. They had towels for 250 yen and toothbrushes for cheap too. They had a kitchen with every single tool that you would need to cook pretty much anything. Check out was at 10:00 a.m. But they let you lock your bag there until 1. So I got to enjoy the town more without having to carry my stuff. I would highly recommend this place.

The only downfalls were that there is only one shower and that the bed is a traditional Japanese bed, a very thin matt on the floor but that's pretty common in Japan

I had a fantastic stay at Hostel Knot. I rarely felt as much at home on my trip as I did here in this hostel, even though I only stayed for two nights. I think the main reason for this was the beautiful kitchen, which is particularly valuable for someone like me who does not want to go out for dinner every night on my long trip around Japan. Also, the hosts were super welcoming, and even wrote a card on the day of my departure. As for Shuzenji Onsen, what I loved most was its peaceful, off-the-beaten-path atmosphere. It gave me the chance to experience the authentic, slower pace of Japan, something that can be harder to come by in larger, more touristy cities. I highly recommend taking a walk outside the town towards the nearby farms. The farmers I encountered were so kind and open, starting conversations and sharing their insights. It truly felt like a slice of real Japanese life, and it was an experience I’ll remember.

While the location is very central, the bus connections to the coast can be a bit of an obstacle. Although this was somewhat expected, it’s worth keeping in mind when planning your trip. If possible, I’d recommend renting a car to explore the area more freely, or simply enjoying what the town itself has to offer. The buses are not only slow over relatively short distances, but they also only run a few times a day, with some routes stopping in the afternoon. I traveled to the east coast, which was my main reason for visiting the Izu Peninsula. Despite taking the first bus in the morning and the last one in the afternoon, I still had to rush during my hike to ensure I didn’t miss the final bus back.

Although we only stayed for one night it was a good experience. Hostel is clean and they provide you with earplugs even though everyone there was quiet and respectful to each other. I loved the community and staff were friendly.

Staff is only there until 18pm which is really uncomfortable but you get what you pay for. They didn’t tell us that there is a shower in the hostel so we only found out about it existence after visiting what that call an Onsen. That place was hideous the bathtub is small building is old and mouldy and they literally didn’t have any showers ☠️ Yet apparently there are showers at this property and the location is literally onsen town so if you check it in advance you will find smth for your evening leisure. Also the beds were indeed clean and comfy the interior is new and pleasant and what is most important it doesn’t break the bank so I would stay there again and recommend this place to anyone travelling on a budget.

The staff are fantastic, it's a really great hostel that makes you feel at home. Great ideas of what to see and do. The main thing to note is that there is only one shower, although there are locals only onsen next door which you can use as part of staying at knot, also that if using the laundry it takes a lot longer than expected and is inside the bathroom so if people are showering you can't access it. There was an issue with the AC our first night, and our room made it to 70% humidity. Staff sorted it for the second night but was fairly uncomfortable for the first night.

The hostel is in a good location, close to onsens, town attractions, and cafes/restaurants. The hostel was clean and quiet. I stayed in the female dorm and the beds were comfortable, the room had good ventilation, and the bunks were private and spacious. The kitchen had everything you needed to cook a meal. There was a cute little work area that was available for everyone to use. The rooftop had lovely views of the town

The shower at the hostel wasn’t the greatest. They do offer free access to an onsen in the building next door and say you can shower there, however I didn’t check it out so can’t speak on that. The washing machine and dryer didn’t work very well

The hostel is in a great location, with many excellent restaurants, shrines, and temples in the surrounding area. A great place to stay to visit the Izu peninsula which can be done completely with transit. The staff is very friendly and they have great advice as to local spots for food and drink. A complete kitchen is provided, there are many nearby hot springs (one which is free admission in partnership with the hostel), and the wifi worked well to take a meeting. The dorm rooms are well air conditioned and the sleeping area is dark and relatively private for a hostel.

This is a lovely small hostel with a traditional feel right on the main street of the village. The place is welcoming and nicely designed. There's a tiny onsen next door which is free to use which is a nice touch. The dorm room I stayed in was fully booked and although the room is small there was a luggage storage area down stairs so it didn't feel over crowded. Everyone has their own pod with plug and light. Staff were smiley and helpful. I'd stay again

The host was incredible! She helped us with a lot of local tips even got us a plan for the next day with the prices! She helped with our washing even came later to help us to get them dry. You have a phone to call for assistance if you need and I needed it as I forgot a pair of trainers. She came straight away. On the day we left we noticed she left us a super sweet note! Thank you so much!!! Comfy bed and quite private capsule hostel.

There was only one bathroom between 2 rooms of 6 . As we only stayed 2 nights not too much of a big problem but it meant we needed to queue a bit. Not much space for luggage in the room but u can also leave it downstairs.

Perfect location, the friendliest staff I've ever met, a lot of recommendations, cool atmosphere and mixing modern with tradition as the building is a renovated old Japanese house. The town is famous for hot springs but most of the hotels would have been pretty expensive, so I'm very happy that Hostel Knot exists so that budget travellers can explore the lovely town too.

It's hard to point out anything negative since the hostel was just simply amazing! In the bathroom I had a hard time putting my stuff down while showering, but that could have been a me problem.
