The view from the room was beautiful & the apartment was very clean. Staff were also very friendly & helpful! The towel service is great, you can put dirty towels outside the room in the morning and by the time you come back from sightseeing in the afternoon they are replaced with clean towels which was great! The bus stop is right outside the hotel entrance & you can easily catch the bus to main shopping/food areas!

There were some downsides to the apartment - the mattress & pillows are quite hard and not the most comfortable. The TV also didn’t seem to have any streaming or phone connection capability (maybe we just couldn’t figure out how to use it but we tried all of the buttons) so international tourists are unable to watch anything other than Japanese channels.

The location was good for walking to many local attractions, shops and markets within the area. As well as over the river / bridge to other locations. The air conditioning was great and much appreciated. The complementary tea was nice. Some good facilities in the room and having a fridge was a great addition. There is a drawer at the end of each bed for some small storage.

Everything was very compact, whilst to be expected in a lot of accommodation, there was only just enough room to put a suitcase down on the floor at the end of the bed. Also only a couple of hooks on the wall for hanging anythig up. I had pre-purchased the hanging rails that you can hang from a hook to give you more space to hang things from (this really helped).

Good location, small but ok rooms, provided shampoo and all other equipment. I was asked to pay additional taxes over the bill, which was no on bill that booking provided, when i asked what are those taxes, reception guy keep on saying these are city tax( which was already included in total price) Basically he tried to charge us twice city tax, and the end I call booking which said we should not pay! So we didnt, but he insisted on paying even after checkout. Buy the comments I that lots of people were asked to pay those fees, which they should not!

Love the decor...bed size..location. As a solo female traveller I felt very safe in this area...its literally where the river walk ends and near the back alley of goin. Bus stop is right in front..7/11 and restaurants next door. Quite area but walkable to main streets ..literally 15-20mins walk to main shijo/ kawaramachi area high street . Staff were wonderful and very helpful ...no problem ordering taxi for me and friendly . Exactly what it is in the picture guys!!!!

Cupboard is small and large will definitely struggle a bit in the room ..just use the bed to open and store closed in a corner .

I think that what I liked the most, was the location of the hotel - close to everything. Another thing that I appreciated and really liked was the service given at the reception. They were super.

Actually there were few things that I did not like: 1. It was not clean (dust all over the place). 2. Something was not ok with the bathroom. The floor was uneven, you had the feeling like you’re about to fall down. 3. The room was much smaller than you could see on the picture and it was my 6th Japanese hotel so I had a comparison (in general Japanese hotel rooms are small, but for this particular, somth was not ok, picture was too far away from reality, maybe it’s just my feeling).

Excellent location. 5-10 minutes walk to all the happening places yet away from the main crowd when you need to rest. So convenient and budget friendly. East access to all the trains and buses. I'm a clean freak and if I say it's clean it's very clean. Staff are always so helpful and speaks English specially Sean! I thought he went to school in North America but he said he learnt his English watching A LOT of YouTube :) Great stay! Will definitely stay here if I go back to Kyoto hopefully it will be kept the same way.

Cleanliness, location, walking distance to Gion and the city centre. Also easy to reach from Kyoto Station by bus 205. Although the rooms are very small, the space is well organized. There is a desk, a minibar, a large TV, hangers for clothes. In the bathroom, the facilities include a magic toilet with a heated seat, and hot water for washing intimate areas, a bathtub with very good shower pressure, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair elastic, makeup remover disc, razor blade, containers with shampoo, conditioner, shower gel. Opposite the hotel is a 7-11 very good for breakfast. The hotel provides a bathrobe and slippers. We went in winter in February when the temperatures are low, 5-10 degrees Celsius, and the air conditioning in the room did not provide enough heat. So the owners put an air heater in the room for extra heat, and an air purifier for the most sensitive (we didn't turn it on)

It would have been great if the room had space for a wardrobe or a stand to put your luggage, so that we didn't have to keep our luggage on the floor

The location was fantastic, the room was spacious - I had enough room to roll my yoga mat out. It was clean & the staff were very helpful. Excellent value for money.

The only thing we didn’t like were the pillows, they were terrible. It did impact our sleep. We had to use our travel pillows and get a blanket from down stairs to use as a pillow instead.

The location is excellent (10min walk to key metro/train, next to bus stop, walking distance to Gion), surprisingly quiet although next to à larger road. The room is nicely bright and quite comfortable despite having a big suitcase. Staff is polite and helpful, they speak very good English. There is a coffee machine, tea and a microwave in the small lobby. It is an excellent value for money.

I would go back there for a night or two but not longer because the room isn't cleaned during any stay - even though I stayed 5 nights. TV only offers a few channels and no possibilities to connect to another device or VOD account.

Carta Hotel was perfect for our 3 day trip to Kyoto! Room was clean and very spacious compared to most in Japan we have stayed in whilst travelling. Great location as in between Gion and Central kyoto with plenty of local resturants and bars only a few minutes walk away. The bus stop outside the hotel front door takes you most places/temples/tourist areas you need!!
