A perfect stay. It was my second time in this house. They are very nice and they gave us some good recommandation about what to visit around here. Specially the Jōshōkō-ji temple and the water fall Takimata. For the waterfall, please remember the name in kanji because there is a crossroads with a small sign with the name of the waterfall in kanji only. There is no internet in the forest! It’s better to come with a car but it’s ok without car if you like cycling and walking. The first time I came (in 2017), I took the bus, and Tanaka Masanori-san kindly picked me up from the bus terminal and brought me to the house. It was very nice. This time (2025) I came with a car and it was perfect to watch a lot of things. And do not go to Takamiya Riding Park. If I understand well, it’s not for tourist (the lady from the riding club seems angry about to see tourists).

Just do not go to Takamiya Riding Park (horse). If I understand well, it’s not for tourist (the lady from the riding club seems angry about to see tourists). About Goemon, nothing bad. It was a very very very wonderful place!

We had an exceptional experience that we will remember and cherish for our life time. I was born and raised in Kyoto Japan myself, but I have to say, the whole experience was very authentic, traditional and inspirational. The character, the charm of the house, the local community, and the food was all amazing! The whole experience of making your own fire for your goemon bath and rice that the host grew and harvested with care was a very traditional and unique experience that highlighted our stay. Even our two little children (2 and 5) were also able to participate with great care and guidance. Most of all, the host went over and beyond to make our experience the best we could ever imagine. Including driving us and stopping by at cherry blossom spots to take photos and driving us all the way to Hiyoshi Springs for a minimal amount after we checked out as there were no taxis in the area. We cannot thank them enough for everything they did for us. I have to say, my kids absolutely loved catching the “Yamori”s in the front yard, and digging up a bamboo shoot “takenoko” which the host specially cooked for us and added it to our set dinner. The bed (futons) were sooo comfortable and waking up to a traditional Japanese room was serene. My 5 year old enjoyed it so much he didn’t want to leave, as well as ALL of us. Even after many weeks after staying at Goemon, we feel so privileged to have been able to stay here and meet our host. We definitely want to stay again next time we come back to Japan! Thank you so much….!

I had the pleasure of staying at this unique Japanese-style house, and the experience was extraordinary. The traditional bath, heated by an open flame make my day-end a memorable and relaxing experience. Our gracious hosts treated us to a delightful BBQ dinner featuring incredibly tender Japanese beef and locally sourced deer meat. The breakfast was equally delightful, with crunchy-on-the-outside yet soft-on-the-inside bread, accompanied by fresh veggies straight from the hosts' own field. The serene and unique environment of the house provided the perfect backdrop for a tranquil getaway. The hosts not only suggested a local Onsen which showcased the beauty of nature for a rejuvenating experience but also shared insider tips on nearby scenic spots and a vibrant farm market. The host also recommended us local activities, such as fishing, swimming, and cycling just in case we visit again in summer. The hosts take great pride in their property, creating an unforgettable stay that seamlessly blends cultural immersion with modern comfort.

A beautiful 100 year old Japanese Farmhouse in a delightful countryside. An authentic experience with very kind and helpful hosts. We had dinner and breakfast prepared for us by our host and it was generous and delicious. We harvested fresh vegetables from the garden. The couple who were our hosts were very kind and generous. They drove us to see some other places and helped us with anything we needed. Also, good English was spoken which made our stay easy and enjoyable as we could ask many questions. I hope we can visit again one day, highly recommend for anyone wanting a deeper understanding of traditional Japanese life in the countryside.

Traditional Japanese house in a valley 1h from Kyoto. The house is very neat, clean and with a lot of space, the owners were very helpful and kind and they prepared us a wonderful meat-based dinner to cook on the brazier in the center of the living room. The house offers a typical goemon bath with wood-fired water, the experience is very nice.
