The property is comfortable, clean, and globally well organized. I liked the bike sharing option and the hot bath, even though it didn’t have a view on the garden

Air conditioning is very very noisy, it was difficult to sleep. The property is very far from the city center, it takes around 1h to go there. And the hostel closes at 23:30 so forget about staying out late… Also I forgot an item there and apparently it’s impossible for the staff to organize a delivery - which seems to me a pretty basic service (I was of course paying for it)

Kyoto Youth Hostel provided a pleasant stay with a welcoming atmosphere, but there are a few things to consider before booking. Location: The hostel is a bit far from the train station, requiring a 15-20 minute walk. While the walk is scenic and gives you a chance to explore the area, it may not be ideal for travelers with heavy luggage or tight schedules. However, once you’re there, it’s a peaceful and relaxing spot to unwind. Facilities: The facilities were great—clean rooms, comfortable beds, and cozy common areas. The Wi-Fi worked well, and having access to laundry facilities was super convenient for a longer stay. Staff: The staff were very friendly and helpful, offering tips on nearby attractions and making sure everything was taken care of during our stay. Atmosphere: The hostel has a welcoming and community-oriented vibe. It’s a great place to meet other travelers while also having enough privacy when needed. Overall, Kyoto Youth Hostel is a good choice if you don’t mind the walk from the station. The comfort, cleanliness, and friendly staff make up for the distance.

Location is far from the major attractions.

Everything!! Lovely staff, clean location, they are strict with noise levels at night too which I appreciate. Using the daily sento was great, laundry was affordable too at 200yen to wash and 100yen to dry. They have a rather furnished kitchen, including a rice cooker. Loved that I could rent a bike too, and there's free luggage storage after check out as well. The beds were actually thicker than the other hostels I went in Japan, which was nice :)

It takes an hour to go into touristy locations in kyoto, and you have to start travelling back around 9.30pm to try catch the last bus and also reach the hostel by the curfew time. Do take note that their 850yen breakfast is more of a western cuisine than japanese.

My stay was awesome...I met a lot of people and the hostel was well organized with a kitchen equipped with everything you need. There is a spacious area where the guests can talk and have fun together but the real plus was sento...at the end of the day, after walking a lot, was amazing have a bath in hot water!! Last thing...the staff was very kind and allowed me to take a bath after check out during my last day and before to take the night bus.

The hostel is far from the city center but it wasn't a real problem for me because I took the bus in the early morning and there isn't a real nightlife in kyoto

This Hostel is one of the best Hostels in all of Japan. It’s surprisingly big, it has beautiful feudal style architecture, it’s very clean and modern, beds are comfortable, it has everything you could wish for including a restaurant. It’s not very central in Kyoto but it’s close to the bamboo forest and the area is just incredibly beautiful. All that for pretty much the cheapest you can get in Japan, makes this an incredible value hostel

Not enough showers. There are only 2 showers, so if you don’t want to use the onsin or when they’re cleaning it, you have to basically wait in line to take a shower

it was amazing!! in a beautiful location, a little far from kyoto station but very close to the famous bamboo forest! the value for money is incredible - there is everything you need: an onsen, showers, multiple very clean bathrooms, separate sinks for skincare, large kitchen with complimentary coffee and tea, smoking areas, lots of garden space, balconies and a lovely shared space with free board games! there are also lots of very good resteraunts nearby, especially for ramen. it really is the perfect hostel i cannot recommend it enough i will definitely be coming back and the beds were very comfy and private too!

Room was very clean, Breakfast and Dinner was also nice taste I made reservation 3 months before arrival date , so I got a really good deal 😊 You could get the Bus from Kyoto Station to Hotel easily ( it’s about 45mins to get there) Bus station is about 3mins walk from this Homestay !

In the early morning , we had to wait 20-30mins to take shower ( there was a group of Chinese People and they took so long time in the bathroom.

I was initially hesitant about staying at Kyoto Utano Youth Hostel because of its distance from the city, but I'm so glad I didn’t cancel! There's a super convenient bus (#26) that goes directly from Kyoto Station to the hostel, which made traveling easy. My stay was incredibly pleasant. I loved how the lavatory is separated from the toilet – the lavatory is spacious, with a dry makeup area, and everything was spotless. The cleanliness extends throughout the entire hostel, including the toilets and bunk beds. I was lucky enough to get a lower bunk in the corner with a window – such a lovely surprise! The building is spacious, clean, and set in a peaceful natural environment. The layout is thoughtfully designed to accommodate guests smoothly without feeling crowded, even when fully booked. The public hot tub with all the provided amenities was such a relaxing touch! Plus, the meals available for purchase were fantastic and super convenient since the hostel is far from convenience stores. The staff were always friendly and eager to help, making me feel welcome as a tourist. This hostel exceeded my expectations with its excellent facilities, cleanliness, and overall atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Kyoto!

Nothing!!!

I’ll try to be as informative as possible, although, I only stayed there for one night. 1) Facilities: - Facilities are available as you need: public bath, bathroom, self-cooking area, and dining hall. They are all clean, and easy to use. - They will provide you with a bedsheet, blanket layer, and pillow sheet to set up your bed DIY. You’ll need to rent a yukata (¥200) and a towel (¥100). - Room was quite big with two wooden double deckers. There is also a locker (idk how to say the size, but you can hang your clothes, and keep your shoes inside). There is also a sofa and small table with four stools. Room flip-flop is also provided. - At the lobby, there are tables for you to do any works. They even have board games for social activities. 2) Staff: - Staff is friendly, helpful, and resourceful. They are able to speak a good English. 3) Food: - You can opt for dinner and breakfast, depending on their menu of that day. Dinner was okay, I cannot complain. But I love the breakfast options.

1) Location: - Please bear in mind that this is in Utano, which is far away from Kyoto Station, and even Arashiyama. I would say it’s a bit inconvenient if you use public transport, because it took me an hour to take the buses from Heian Jingu. I will also have to walk 30 minutes to a nearby bus that goes to Arashiyama (not that I entirely hate the walk, I enjoy it tho). Cars would be easier to go there. - although to be fair, they do provide rental bikes, so you can make use of that. - the surrounding can be quiet and dark, with dim street lights 2) Room sharing - Not the staff’s fault of course, but if this is your first time doing hostel, please consider that you’ll potentially be with roommates that may snore very loud.

The location is beautiful, and the rest of the city was easily accessible by bus. The hostel is clean, and had a really great energy. It was quiet, and beautiful, surrounded by nature. The public bath facilities were clean and comfortable. There were many different areas available for lounging or working or hanging out after a long day. The staff were also helpful, providing recommendations and support with navigation.

The room I stayed in had a slightly funky smell, but it didn't disrupt my stay.
