Room: So spacious and immaculately clean, and cleaned and towels refreshed every day. We loved the traditional Japansese decor in a beautiful fresh, airy modern setting. We asked for a larger table to do work and it was provided without a hitch. Staff is always there to greet you with smiles and help with any detail. Bikes for free: This was a great help and we used them many times. Free for 2 hours, or pay for the day.1,000Y Bathroom: Excellent. Traditional Japanese Bath which really was the best we've had. Nice soaps and conditioner. Kitchen:The breakfast sets to choose from were Western style mostly, with some added Japanese bonus dishes, like corn or squash soup, yogurt and granola, or nuts. The eggs were always so fresh. The difficulty for us was my husband being vegan, couldn't really eat the offered sets with dairy, meat and eggs. The kitchen was wonderful... after we had brought in fruit and granola and oat milk and set it on our table to "make breakfast" there, the following day, they offered us fruit and nuts and brought out bowls of cut up fruit:). Each day they were preparing fruit and granola for Bill:) One day they tried their hand at making avocado toast for us:). So bravo to the kitchen staff who were so kind and went out of their way to make us feel at home. Long Stay: this was home for just over 2 weeks, and it was a great stay. We went into Kyoto often for dinner and activities as the GR is a few blocks from the Arashiyama Station.

The staff here were super helpful and kind. They made great recommendations and then made reservations for us. They were super conscientious and followed up brilliantly on any request we made. The breakfast at the cafe downstairs was good. The room was big. They kept everything clean. The hotel is down the street and around the corner from the Arashiyama train station, which does not connect easily to the Kyoto Station. It's about a 10-15 minute walk from the main attractions in Arashiyama. We actually liked that it was a bit off the beaten path that way. We were surprised to read a 2-star review solely because they don't have "coffee service"; that's unfair and they do in fact have a decent coffee machine and fancier coffee drinks can be obtained from the cafe downstairs during their open hours. Kyoto is amazing, but its narrow streets were never designed to handle so many tourists! It was fun to have dinner at local places after most of the foreign tourists have left. It was great to stay in Arashiyama and be able to get around before the crowds arrive and after they leave. It's a completely different experience as you'd imagine. Definitely let the staff make reservations for you as some of the small places get packed with locals for dinner.
We stayed on the first floor, which was great because as others have noted, there are no elevators. The staff put our luggage in our room anyway. There was no view from any of the windows (all were frosted) presumably because of the first floor location. There is only 1 laundry machine and it takes forever to dry clothes (I think it might be a heat pump all-in-one washer/dryer and they take 2x longer than traditional dryers) and can only be operated during daytime hours. The room was really big--like an apartment, but it has concrete ceilings and it a bit of a strange aesthetic like that.

Breakfast was in a small nearby (actually just below) cafe; simple and somewhat western. The location is particularly good especially if you are (as we were, being repeat visitors to Kyoto) interested in exploring this particular area of northwest Kyoto while not being too far away from the more frequented parts further east and south. We are an older couple, and the only remaining room probably would be extremely good for young families.
Nothing really. There is public transport quite nearby; you can walk to many locations in and around Arashiyama, and they will call you a taxi quickly and they arrive quickly. Easy to get to from Gion, or the station area, although quite a distance sometimes. Plan your time well and this is a great base.

Staff were friendly and attentive, they went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable The rooms are very spacious and clean Perfect for families and had kids books and toys The hotel is on a quiet street in a residential neighborhood, but only 5minute walk to the bridge and all the tourist attractions and shops We were so glad to stay a little further out from Kyoto central to experience this quieter pace and surrounded by beautiful scenery, we have all decided we can’t wait to stay here again!!
Wish they had elevators Set breakfast times were hard but we understand it was necessary for the cafe

We stayed at this hotel, in the suite with kitchenette, with our 20 month old son and we're perfectly comfortable. The kitchenette had the basics for preparing food, a fridge and microwave and there is a convenience store very close by for essentials. The beds are very comfortable and we had room for a large portacot as well. The staff were the most kind and accommodating we have experienced travelling with our child. There was baby soap in the shower and a nappy bin in the room without us even asking. They booked us taxis and called for takeaway food for us one of the nights, and arranged luggage forwarding. They were always considerate and helpful. The bathroom is large, with a bathtub. There is a rooftop with tables which has a great view and allows space for kids to play and the breakfast at the cafe downstairs was excellent. Highly recommended for families travelling. Please note that there are no elevators so stairs only to the third floor. This was not an issue for us but worth noting if stairs are difficult for you.

This little hidden gem of a property tucked away on a somewhat residential cute street far exceeded my expectations for the price. The room was HUGE and comfortable, but moreover, it was the staff who went above and beyond during my stay. There are not phones in the room so the woman who works at the front desk had to handle numerous calls for me during my 24 hr stay because the airline had lost my luggage [which, frankly, I preferred given the language barrier -- her assistance w/ communicating to the airport/airline was immensely helpful!] and the other thing that made this place beyond exceptions is the AMAZING complimentary breakfast at the cafe downstairs. It was my favorite breakfast of my entire 2 week trip throughout Japan! An adorable atmosphere and a very delicious breakfast.
Not much - everything about this place, especially for the price, was worth it!

Bright and spacious room. Very comfortable beds. Great shower. We loved the rooftop, it was great for the kids to hand out there. The coffee machine in the lobby was great. The breakfast in the downstairs cafe was good, the kids loved the attached play room.
The clothes dryer is terrible. It time a long time to (not) fully dry my clothes. I got sick of checking it every half hour as I wanted to get on with my day. The staff were helpful and gave me a cloth rail to hang stuff up in the room instead.

We loved our stay at The GrandWest Arashiyama. It is on a quiet street across the Togetsukyō Bridge and near surrounding forests. It is walking distance to a popular shopping street, the Tenryu-ji Temple and Arashiyama Bamboo Forest. We recommend the restaurants in the Arashiyama Park Nakanoshima Area (8 minutes walking from the hotel). My dad and I found it to be such a restful stay, with a beautiful open plan interior, great beds and amenities, and very friendly and polite staff. We would love to stay here again.
We don't have any complaints!

I stayed with my son for 12 days. The spacious rooms are perfect for families. I loved the neighborhood, you can explore Arashiyama after the buzz and the mass tourism from the afternoon made their way back to the city. Take a stroll alongside the Hozugawa river, enjoying nature. It is close to nice places like the Matsuo Shrine or the Arashiyama Monkey Park. I can also recommend to take a boat tour on the Hozugawa river, you will end your trip close to the hotel.

The size of the room is amazing. The rooms are roomy, clean, and just very relaxing. Very well lit and many windows. It was a breath of fresh air. The beds are incredibly comfortable, and it was difficult to leave in the morning because I was so comfy, haha. The hotel is in a very quiet area. It is close to the Hankyu Arashiyama Station. The hotel keeps your luggage if you're still puttering around Arashiyama after you check-out. The bathroom is probably the best I've had outside of luxury hotels in Japan. There is a very useful coin laundry and a wonderful little rooftop terrace with a kotatsu available to hotel guests.
The hotel only has very steep stairs, which makes it inaccessible for some. It is also a little far from train stations that aren't Hankyu, or any kind of convenience stores.
